Dr. Jay Giedd, chief of brain imaging in the child psychiatry branch at the National Institute of Mental Health, agrees with me... as do many other reputable physicians.
So it matters not that someone who has no degree in the medical field disagrees with me or not.

How do you know if I have a degree or a few of them....simple answer is you dont know. Here is what I know though, you enjoy trying to aggravate people & you yourself are clearly obsessive...probably delusional & we all know that your opinionated because you have displayed that side of yourself in here. Rattling this guy is just pathetic & contemptible. You need to look inward & perhaps ask yourself if Christ would act the same.

New York Times has an interesting article called "Can Brain Scans See Depression?"
Interestingly enough, a Dr Giedd, who works at the National Institute of Mental Health, reveals that after 10 years of scanning hundreds of brains he is beginning to have his doubts.

Lithium is in the class of psychotropic medications.
I will not recommend it or any other drugs that have the capability of causing hallucinations.
I am not denying that your father had bouts of depression, AmyG.I cannot believe a Christian can be so insensitive. My first experience with depression was my father. He had a heart attack at age 48 which resulted in open heart surgery. They tried a new procedure using the arteries in his arm instead of the leg. This was in 1974, I was 15 yrs old.
Six months after his quadruple bypass surgery, it had to be redone and he had open heart surgery AGAIN. After the 2nd one he became very depressed and would just sit and cry. I had never seen my father cry until then. He healed and went back to work, but several years later, he had have ANOTHER bypass operation and became depressed after that one too. Then a few years later he had another heart attack and became so depressed that he could barely get out of bed.
The dr's told us that it was because of the physical trauma to his body from the surgery and the heart attacks. It affects the chemicals in the brain and causes depression.
So there ARE plenty of valid reasons for mental disorders that are rooted in physical problems. Extreme stress can cause depression too.
YOU need to back off and examine your own illness, which as ABC said is of the heart. But surgery won't cure you.
Which antibiotic was that, may I ask?I took an antibiotic that caused hallucinations. Does that mean I shouldn't take antibiotics?
I am not denying that your father had bouts of depression, AmyG.
But whatever doctor told you that it was caused by chemical imbalance was wrong to tell you that. There are no tests to prove a 'chemical imbalance' in the brain whatsoever. Many leading doctors have stated these facts in medical journals. I am curious how the doctor came to the conclusion that your dad had a 'chemical imbalance'?
Insensitivity has nothing whatsover to do with my speaking the truth concerning the 'chemical imbalance' fabrication.
I have seen many go into bouts of depression after surgery. It is not an uncommon occurrence. And I know it is hard to see a family member go through depression. Then what do you think caused his depression? Isn't it obvious that his heart attacks and surgeries caused something in his brain to get out of whack? He never had depression during any other times, no matter what else in his life was going on.
The Bible does not say anything about a chemical imbalance of the brain, nodak. Not even the modern Bibles that are on the shelf today.Fred, the Bible teaches of chemical imbalances tangentally.
It refers to emotion as seated in the bowels, as in bowels of mercy, etc.
Are you aware chemical imbalance affects the whole body?
Do you know that serotonin is used in gut as well as the brain, and that the gut is a good marker for chemical imbalance?
Depression isn't diagnosed just because someone is very sad.
It is a whole constellation of physical symptoms.

I recently had cataract surgery and the doctor gave me Vallium (I don't remember what strength). It was given to "relax" me. It didn't "relax" me at all...but later on (at 4AM the next morning) I woke up with a terrible case of hives and had to take Benedryl to "counteract" the side effects of that small amount of Vallium I was given.
