The UK left just wants a lot of third-world voters who will vote for them as long as the welfare is paid on time. The same is true for the Democrats in this country. Of course, the rich in both countries want cheap labor. This has nothing to do with compassion or charity--it is just a vote buying scheme.
I am thinking that one way to stop immigration in addition to stop paying welfare to non-citizens is to lower the minimum wages so that immigrants cannot compete.
