The term "African American", offends me!
Exactly what is an "African Americanan? So a Caucasian from South Africa who comes to the States - would be an A-A???

The word plantation all by itself is benign. People understand the connection to slavery, and yet if someone said in 2021 that their friend had 6,000 acres to their cotton plantation [which, I have that friend], you would understand that they had no slaves. Just family and paid workers. It's 2021.
However, it has NO meaning to basketball whatsoever. So when interjected by the coach to his black players - it's meaning can only be taken as very, very strained and awkward and leave players wondering he was insinuating.
Consider this: Let's say that the WMU ladies at your church had very successful fund raisers for the Cooperative Program. Yet, they were in disagreement as to which mission projects should receive the bulk of the monies.
In comes the pastor. He says to the ladies. "Come on now ladies. We have to work together. I need you all on the same street corner. I can't have anyone leaving the street corner."
Street corner. Another benign word. But inserting it where it has NO meaning at all - the only thing you can take is that he was referring to them as prostitutes. You KNOW he was not! Yet - the out of context words he used made it sound like he was.
I don't see why people don't understand that.

I’ve said this since it became a PC thing. It’s racist & insulting on it’s face. Am I Anglo American? No, I am an American, as are the rest of us. We are all Americans, except for illegals who Biden wants to go to the head of the line. America first! You are more than welcome to come, just do it through proper channels. Keep America as something to aspire to, not trample over. The rest of us follow rules, rules are necessary in a civil society.
The problem with McDermott's comment is that Division 1 Universities function similarly to Plantations where they essentially control a student athletes life, make a lot of money off the work of these athletes and merely provide food and education in return. Mcdermott spoke too close to the truth for Creighton's administration to be comfortable. Plus, young African American men will be reminded of our nation's great sin.

NO one is forcing anyone to play basketball for a college- it is a choice! Now, are they getting an education in return - Yes - not a bad deal
Especially seeing that tuition itself stars at 40 grand a year! Room and board is about 10 grand a year. And for a few - a ticket to the NBA.
Currently, at least .3 are in the NBA and a dozen others are playing professionally elsewhere. Creighton Players Currently Playing Professionally - RealGM
I expect G-league and other lower professional leagues will grow as division one basketball diminishes. However, at this time D1 programs get a lot of money while they provide housing, food and a minimal education.

this whole "racist" thing is a load of rubbish! I see nothing wrong in what this person has said. Why should the term "Plantation" be as racist thing? It has been made so by some...
Because 150 years ago - slaves worked on plantations.
and some also worked in mansions., so we should demand that the word "mansion" be on the "don't he used list.

I knew about that. but this whole thing about "racism" these days is nuts! here in the UK there are Pubs that are centuries old, and have names like Black Boy, which now seems to be offensive and needs to be changed!

Wow, do you "have fun" living? As someone here remarked on the term "African-American", why saying it in the United States means only Blacks, and not whites, too. After all, whites in Africa are not only descendants of European colonizers, but also Arabs (albeit relatively), Copts, and North African Europeans?

It is interesting seeing what is and is not offensive.
Mark Twain is banned because he presents a narrative within the context of the time the narrative takes place.
Yet Twain was very far from a racist (in regards to Black people, he was very progressive for his time....in regards to Native Americans, well, that is another story).
Point is people seek to be offended. People seek to be a victim. In the end it is used to justify their own shortcomings.

Strannik - first of all- and I say this kindly to you- most do not like to be called "negro" in the USA. Black is more acceptable.

The phrase itself is not racist. It’s only racist when someone with “white privilege” and too little “intersectionality” uses it.
Brainwashing 101. Of course that’s the desired reaction that they want us to ‘buy into’. No sale at my house.
