Do you realize that all of us agree that people should not forsake assembling? These accusations you make are not a part of the discussion. I haven't read where anyone is putting aside the Bible, or making a joke of it. That is silly to accuse anyone here of that. The debate has to do with missing a random Wed. night, and does that equal forsaking to assemble. Some have said it is not, since it is not a consistent absence from church, but a one time thing for whatever random reason. Can you not agree to disagree that you do think it is foresaking to assemble?

Let's move on.

Normally I would take offense at this statement.

But since anyone who disagrees with you for any reason at any time is slapped with this label, then I could care less about your misjudgement of my character.

I agree...

Some people add legalistic rules to make themselves feel holy...
If the Bible said, "thou shalt not work on Wednesdays" I would agree with you...
But since you take the side the pharisees took when condemning Christ for working on the Sabbath.. I choose to agree with Jesus instead of you.

You will answer for the bondage you are putting God's people in. He died to set them free.. and you want to bind them to rules and regs that are not biblical...

Like I said.. show me where the Bible says, "Thou shalt not work on Wed. evenings" And I will agree with you...

The real sad thing is that those who ONLY take the Word of God at face value and not within context of scripture only serve to create a new law to burden others by while playing the part of a modern day pharasee and living like the devil from our their own heart. What's worse, is they mostly take an attitude of hate rather than the love of God that we are commanded to show others.

It should not be a burden to go to church.

Forsaking does not necessarily mean abandoning forever. The Apostles forsook the Lord at His arrest, yet returned to serving Him with such a zeal that they were in the temple daily.

If you turn your back on the things of God for the world even once, you are forsaking the things of God.

That's not true. You're example doesn't prove it to be true either, as that is something totally different. So....nope, I disagree.

I have a feeling this is more about you wanting people to hear you preach than your concern for their spiritual well-being. Just a hunch.

I would strongly suggest that you go back and read each post of this thread before posting somthing so out of context to anything that has been said. Once you do, then it would be appropriate to post. This posting obviously lacks any context or you would not have made such a statement.

This is just a friendly suggestion to help you protect your integrity so that it cannot be questioned. And to guard your name so that it is not lessened by such statements.

Shurley,

Thank you for the counsel. However, the command to not forsake the assembly is not a new law, nor is it a burden...go to church.

Rufus:

I strongly encourage you to reread all of the posts before making such a statement. You are a very intelligent person and yet you are allowing blind indignation to color your posts. It does not bode well for your integrity nor your name in saying such things out of context to the discussions that have happened. There have not been any statements that even resemble what you have stated. Please guard your good name.

1 Timothy 5:8
(8)
But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

If you tell a person not to work but instead go to church, you are an accesory to them denying the faith.

No one is saying stay away from church...
It is the legalists that we disagree with. They say that if a pastor tells a person they must quit thier job to be at church on Wednesday evening the church member must quit his job...

This is the ultimate in "lording" over your sheep.

Is it more beneficial for one to provide spiritual guidance? or physical needs?

No one is telling people not to work. Just to be faithful to God first. If you are skipping the feeding of the spiritual man, all the physical work will benefit you nothing.

Luke 12:19-20 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

You have said that a person must quit his or her job if their pastor told them to, in order to not miss service....

Are you back peddling?

Not backpeddling at all, tim. My last post reinforces the previous posts I have put in this thread.

I am not refuting man working, the Word of God declares that man is to work. But the Word of God also declares that man is to go to Church more often now in these last days than ever before. And the Word of God tells us to obey our pastors for they are the shepherd's of our souls.

These commands do not refute one another. We are to work, but if work takes precedence over the assembling of ourselves together in worship and fellowship, then we don't have our priorities right.

We are to seek first the kingdom of God, not physical needs.

I'm sure our church's staff will be relieved to know they don't have to work on Sundays or Wednesdays.
