Tell the world "that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance" (Acts 26:19-20) KJV.

IMHO the word should be (TURN) since this is what repentance really is. sorrow is well and good but is it Authentic?. If it were then we would no longer commit that sin and eventually would be sinless. Or we keep turning back and forth which is not a true turning or repentance. Scripture tells us we do not sin and it boils down to not being under the Law is why. Still I die daily as did Paul. We have been set free from sin, Because we are no longer under the Law. There is no man with out sin and at the same time our flesh has sin living in the flesh. Spiritually we do not sin and we will never stop the sinning of the flesh. Paul said who shall deliver me from the body of sin. We can't do this but God can.

That's the key.
Sometimes it is used in relation to works, and sometimes in relation to the mind.
Any monolithic definition of "repentance" which doesn't acknowledge the Bible's sundry uses of the word is bound to miss the mark.

What purpose does it serve for the term not being used in that gospel as given to John to write it?

You might ask also why John (and Mark and Luke) did not include about tombs being opened and 'saints' rising and appearing in the city-- Matthew 27:52-53. It's obvious the Spirit did not inspire thr gospel writers to reveal the same things. With One Spirit, why would that be?

On the contrary they do. Each book relates to the others and they are simular but style is different. A few writers tell the story differently than others or say the same things differently. The Whole Bible is inspired by God.

I agree 100% in that we have all 'sinned' in the past tense I John 1:10 (KJV). The hope and promise of II Peter 1 is that we do not have to sin in the future tense. If we had to sin or could not possible live without committing sin there would be no need for the hundreds of scriptural exhortations to do so.

There is a difference between temptation and sin. As long as temptation does not 'conceive' we have not sinned by being tempted. James 1:12-15 (KJV).

In Romans 7:15-17 Paul was talking about Saul, the old man under the law in the past tense “when ye were [past tense] in the flesh” (Romans 7:5), and “God be thanked, that ye were [past tense] the servants of sin” (Romans 6:17).

And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure” ( I John 3:3) KJV.

But ye have not so learned Christ; If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil (Ephesians 4:20-27) KJV.

I’m thankful that you do not stray into some belief in sinless perfection. Both Finley and John Wesley taught sinless perfection sometimes called “Christian perfection.” The “Methodist Holiness” is still actively taught by Asbury University in Kentucky.

The Nazarene church has a belief along this line.

The Catholic Church also teaches such is attainable in this life.

Such thinking is denial that we have the dual natures that war for our submission.

However, there is the need for believers, everywhere, to allow the Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen them in the mater of putting off worldliness. It is a continual process which is never completely completed.

Since the Bible says that there is no man with out sin. No man can claim sinlessness for there life Paul even admitted a thorn in his flesh to buffet him.
2Co_12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
Quite frankly that thorn kept Paul from being proud which is what being exalted above measure means. There was a time I tried so hard not to sin tha after some time I looked back to see how I was doing. Being proud I became depressed to find that I had sinned all along. I was being prideful.

This thread is to consider some other word to REPLACE the word repent, repentance,...

All believers understand the need, and even the considerable work of the Holy Spirit in not only impressing but bringing the believer to repentance.

However, the word itself has been watered down and become ineffective in this modern society.

What word can be used to impress upon folks that shallow "my bad" repentance is not reflecting the Godly repentance leading to salvation and leaves no regret?

I fully understand your desire to find a word that would impress upon this generation what repent meant to us older folk but there in lays the problem. What word could replace "repentance/repent" for this "me first" generation. It seems to be more of a "it's not a crime unless you get caught" or "if it feels good do it" approach to life now.

Our society has been taught that you are not responsible for anything. Blame someone or something else for your problems because it sure can't be you.

It's great that you can keep your self from sin. I'm happy for you but all of us just aren't as strong willed as you. The thing I'm happy most about is that God's wonderful Grace is sufficient for believers like me. I admit I'm not perfect but I'm still a work in progress Salvation is not. about works all that is needed is faith in Jesus Christ and His gospel message.
