well...

Does pastor Rick teach repentance, and that other faiths such as islam and the RCC are false ?
Why don't you ask him. Wouldn't that be the biblical thing to do instead of spreading malice and bearing false witness?

As this thread progresses, it would seem that there is a dividing line between two camps that is other than about Warren and his practices. It seems, rather, that the line is about whether one should PREACH AGAINST something or PREACH FOR something -- at least that is where we are headed now.

Many here seem willing to hang Warren out to dry because he might fail to PREACH AGAINST something that is their own pet peeve, while others here know that he PREACHES FOR THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Should we characterize all preachers by what they preach against or by what they preach for?

And, especially in Warren's case, where his sermons are publicly accessable, let's see some evidence pro and con from what HE actually said from the pulpit instead of just continuing to do the devil's work in accusing a brother.

Mat_7:15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

Mat_24:11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.

Mat_24:24 For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.

Mar_13:22 For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect.

So, just whom are you equating as a false prophet, and can we investigate to insure that that is true or not by the ACTUAL WORDS (versus what people SAY about) of that individual?

Seems that SOME level of care might need to be held in the investigation lest the investigator be the actual false prophet!

I am not equating anyone. I made a general statement in answer to your question. Be careful not to read into the words of other posters.

Not reading anything into anything. You posted some Bible verses. I am asking, "in reference to whom?"

just curious here...

Why is it accusing a brother in the Lord to JUST seek what he really meant, clarify wether Pastor or his staff are in agreement or not over islam ?

I think I understand the anger from many in here over criticizing Rick Warren. They really like him and probably follow his minstry and maybe even model their ministries after the PD style to an extent. I feel the same when I see a PD ministry or person go against what I feel is doctrinal truths. It is the old conservative vs. liberal theology still in business and I think it is healthy. Iron sharpens iron. If we were to remain silent when we feel the church is heading towards heresy, that is unhealthy. Scripture requires us in many passages to stay alert and rebuke a brother when heading in the wrong direction, and this can be either direction. I'm glad for those who know their bible so well that they can see error when it comes about. I like the old counterfiet dollar analagy, the better you know the original the easier it is to notice a counterfiet.

I guess I'll get the accusation that I'm calling Warren a counterfiet and how terrible I am for belittling a brother in Christ. Well bring it on.

I do not really care for his ministry. I think even less of his book. But I believe the accusations of his belief that we worship the same god as Muslims is outlandish and unfounded. We do not want to accuse someone falsely or be quick to believe any criticism that comes along just because we disagree.

As far as rebuking a brother in error, that needs to be done in person by people directly effected by him. No one here on this board is rebuking Warren. It cannot be done in this fashion. All this talk about Warren seems to be more slander than anything else.

Because, simply, what is happening in THIS thread is nothing more than gossip and slander with virtually no investigation as to whether or not Warren ACTUALLY teaches a "liberal" doctrine, is soft on Islam, etc., and what evidence HAS come to bear is decidedly in Warren's favor, yet the haters continue unabated.

I'm saying either produce evidence from WARREN in a public setting like a sermon or published lesson, or recant and repent, for a brother is being accused as if he is the spawn of Satan.

So is it your practice to accuse first and then investigate to see if it is true? What does that mean "accusing a brother in the Lord"? I have never, in my life, heard of such a thing. Is that practice common where you are from? Do you have a biblical foundation for "accusing a brother in the Lord"? Since you did bring the Lord into your accusation.

Wow, you couldn't be further from the truth in your assessment of those who won't pick up stones along with you and your merry men. No wonder you are so off in judging his ministry!

Our church did a small group PDL study 7 or 8 years ago. I thought it was just ok, geared more to the new believer, in between milk and cottage cheese to be honest. Not a huge fan of his style...also not a huge fan of those who make it a habit of attacking him at every turn either as has become the "in" thing for those believers who think they are so spiritually mature.

Agree. My husband was one of the ones leading our PDL study - and he's certainly not wishy washy. It was a good study - he used it as a springboard for more stuff. It wasn't the end all and be all of theology but a good discussion and as WD said, good for newer believers. But to go after a man of God the way some do is not worthy of one called a follower a Christ.

Then you would have seen some of what I saw. LOTS of saved people in attendance to see one of their heros in the faith plus a bunch of great Christian musicians, etc. Not so many lost persons, however...

Yes, I noticed that.

I was still very much blessed and I thought it was awesome.
