Romney's Speech

Good lines, empty slogans and very short on details.

Crabby, I have to agree even though I usually disagree with you. The part about the lack of details bothers me. Why can't politicians give us the working details of how they will bring about a better America? I hope Mr. Romney will in the coming days and for Obama I cannot see where he can ask for 4 more years of what has transpired under his watch?

Crabby, hope you don't mind me calling you that. I have to ask, as a Christian how can you promote a candidate for Prez that is pro-abortion, anti Israel, pro LGBT and unlimited govt control of our lives? Can you please explain on each of these positions? Please no liberal spin.

Solo, no problem at all. As I have said in a number of posts, I am not a one issue voter. I am not in favor of abortion. I also know that there is very little a president can do concerning abortion as the Supreme Court has ruled over and over on this. Abortion is a convenient topic for politicians to hide behind while not talking about other important issues.

So, facing the fact that a president and congress can do little concerning abortion I have to look at the other issues. At the moment I am not happy with either candidate. But when I look at what is being said I have concluded that the GOP, i.e. Romney and Ryan do not have the interest of the middle class and poor at heart. They seem to have bought into the idea that the poor are poor through their own fault and should not be helped. Also, the GOP seems to be at war against just about everyone except the rich. Their concern seems to be the redistribution of wealth from the middle class and poor to the rich. I am concerned they will do great harm to the majority of Americans while enriching the rich.

If Romney would spell out specifics of what he plans to do I might changes my mind or I might not.

Thus all-in-all, though I am not happy with either candidate I have to go with the one I am least unhappy with. I hope this explains a bit of my thinking for you. Please ask any other questions you have. Honest questions are just that honest questions and should not upset anyone.Too often on this BB there are insults and name calling with no substance ... just emotional knee-jerk reactions. Solo, thank your for not being one of those people.

Very articulated post, Brother. But, I can not cast a vote for anyone who is pro-choice, and pro-gay marriage. That goes against the very core of what God's Word stands for, morals. Anyone who is pro these, goes against the morals that the bible stands for.

That being said, Mittens is not a viable option either. So, I have decided to abstain from voting this year for the prez.

Generally the best thing government can do is get out of the way. Romney mentioned 5 things he would do to help the economy:

1. Repeal Obamacare. I believe this is perhaps the one thing that has stifled the economy most.
2. Reduce regulations. This is perhaps the second biggest hinderance to the economy. Obamma's EPA is killing industry.
3. Reform the tax code. If this is done effectively, particularly eliminating loopholes and corporate subsidies, it could boost the economy.
4. Reforming entitlements. If this is not done nothing will really matter. The Federal government is faced with an unfunded liability of 60-100 trillion. My personal opinion, not Romney's, is that Medicare and Social Security should be changed now for those already retired by use of means testing. I am not sure where it should start but folks with a retirement income of say $150,000, more or less??, should not be getting Social Security and for these Medicare should only provide catastrophic coverage.
5. ????????Energy independence!

He can! He can! At least in his own mind!

Mittens stance on traditional marriage is man and wives....
That is why Momon men look so young at their 50th year anniversary. They get to claim total year married to each woman seperately. Usually, the man sits in a chair with all the wives he is married to standing behind him. The Utah Gazette is full of such anniversaries each Sunday.

So that 13% where you differ with Romney is "multiple wives".:BangHead: Actually S/N I believe multiple wives would age a man quicker.:tonofbricks: Just my opinion of course!

Well, we must always remember and never forget, with each additional wife comes another mother-in-law.

I thought Romney did a pretty good job. He comes across as a very decent person.

One of Mitt's biggest problems is that he appears stiff and wooden. My favorite part of the speech was when he said Obama "promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans", and then he paused for just a moment and looked at the camera. That was a great moment and quite humorous. He then said Obama promised to heal the earth, paused and gave that look again.

This was great, because for once he didn't appear stiff and wooden. He needs to show that side of himself. He appeared to have a sense of humor. he came across as a regular guy.

But then he said in a very serious and sincere voice "My promise is to help you and your family". Fantastic. He exposed Obama for being full of baloney and making impossible promises. He exposed Obama for his mega ego. At the same time he showed himself as a caring and serious person who cares about Americans and not himself.

Here is that moment;

It's pretty clear that the Federal Reserve (the biggest source of our economic problems) will get a pass. So, there will be no change in economic policy or spending and the forever wars will continue.

Yay! I can hardly wait for the samo samo for another four years. Romney combs his hair nice though. All part of looking presidential I suppose.

Metaphorically speaking Mitt gives "Tennessee Waltz" speeches as opposed to others who typically give a Razz-Ma-Tazz "Chicago tap dance" performance accompanied by a cast of thousands (DeJaVu 2007-8).

We'll see soon.

I think we will get more meat during the debates - that is if we have Presidential debates. It is possible that Obama will say he is not participating......

Actually, auditing of the Federal Reserve is in the Republican Platform this year. (Thanks to Ron Paul supporters).

I think you are wrong, poncho. I hope you are wrong. I believe Mitt Romney is a man of his word and is just the person we need to turn this country around.

I hope those who are against him because he is a Mormon and are not planning to vote will change their mind. Trying to divide Republicans on the Mormon issue, especially Evangelical Christians, is what the DNC is hoping for and have ads ready to come out about Mormonism after the convention. Divide and Conquer, no matter how much it hurts the Nation. :tear:

Is that a guess, or did you hear it somewhere?

I have been saying it is a possibility all along - he has proven himself to be narcissistic and that being said, may believe himself to be "above" the normal procedure for electing a president in the USA, since he is now a sitting president. In 2008, that wasn't the case. He knows he will not be able to debate Mitt Romney on the issues because he relies so heavily on teleprompters and has no financial or business experience. So we shall see.

If there is a debate, he will use the usual debate tactics seen on the BB - poisoning the well, bait and switch, strawman, red herrings, ad hominem attacks and non sequiturs, etc.

Should there be an "honest" debate on policy, instead of personal attacks, Romney will win hands down. I just hope his debate coach is preparing him for the personal attacks and red herrings that are sure to come if the debate should happen.
