How do you explain the butterflies that changed to blend in with smog? A mutation. That carried over. From generation to generation. They evolved. But only on a small (or micro) level. Micro-evolution. You do realize that gene mutation that stays IS micro evolution, right?
I'd call that natural selection based on natural variation within a species, not a mutation. My grandkids (all from one couple) have hair color ranging from medium brown thru light blond, but that's merely how the genetics worked out at conception, and I wouldn't refer to that as mutation. However, the moth selection by color does, IMO, represent micro-evolution, which to me is alteration of the varieties within a species. This variation can be quite striking - Noah likely took a single pair of canids on the ark, and from that pair we have all the dog breeds along with wolves, jackels, etc.
