Due to urgency of issue, 2016 meeting is moved to early next year:

http://www.tennessean.com/story/new...baptists-discuss-race-spring-summit/20264933/

"The Southern Baptist Convention announced Thursday it will host a spring summit on racial reconciliation, moving it up from a planned 2016 date in light of the Ferguson riots and the Eric Garner grand jury ruling.

It's a significant move for the Nashville-based denomination, which was born in 1845 out of its support for slavery — a stance it formally apologized for in 1995. Just three years ago, Southern Baptists considered rebranding to move past their split with Northern congregations and increase opportunities for expansion.

The denomination kept its name, a decision the head of its ethics and public policy arm said he supported because it keeps its past sin in front of members."

Just out of curiosity, how often should whites apologize for a slavery situation that they had nothing to do with, to a people who have never lived as a slave by these same apologetic whites??

How often, when the war of northern aggression is mentioned, do you hear that old retort, "that was over 100 years ago, so drop it"?

Well, I say the same about slavery, it's been well over 100 years ago, apologies have been made multiple times, so why can't it be allowed to die a natural death??

I'll tell you why - there's still too much money to be made by keeping the blacks feeling like victims; courtesy of the liberals who gladly keep the plantation gates shut and locked for those willing to sell their souls for a mess of pottage!!

Don't believe it? Just look how those who have escaped are portrayed; any, ANY, successful black that has refused to buy the liberal dogma is automatically an "UNCLE TOM"! (Notice which successful blacks who ARE NOT referred to as UNCLE TOMs.)

And that sorry excuse for an ATTORNEY GENERAL says that America is afraid to talk about race. No Eric, it's not that we are afraid, it's just that YOU & yours don't want to DISCUSS - you want to dictate; ignoring such is not fear, it's simply refusing to "cast pearls before swine"!

Now this upcoming "conference" may or not be worthwhile, cuz, IMNSHO, the legitimacy will be determined by whether there can be a TRUE dialog between all participants or if more "dead horse" apologies etc. are demanded.

Nothing but a red herring. This has nothing to do with anyone asking for an apology for slavery but that's all you can hear because it's part of the GOP narrative of showing "those black people" that white people are tired of them blaming them foreverything.

How often, when the war of northern aggression is mentioned, do you hear that old retort, "that was over 100 years ago, so drop it"?

Maybe they will as soon as you drop the old "I didn't own any slaves" retort.

Well, I say the same about slavery, it's been well over 100 years ago, apologies have been made multiple times, so why can't it be allowed to die a natural death??

Because black men are still being treated as though they were somebody's property. But they don't expect you and your white privilege perspective to get that.

I'll tell you why - there's still too much money to be made by keeping the blacks feeling like victims; courtesy of the liberals who gladly keep the plantation gates shut and locked for those willing to sell their souls for a mess of pottage!!

As usual, everything about the GOP and you "political conservatives" goes right back to money.

Don't believe it? Just look how those who have escaped are portrayed; any, ANY, successful black that has refused to buy the liberal dogma is automatically an "UNCLE TOM"! (Notice which successful blacks who ARE NOT referred to as UNCLE TOMs.)

So Blacks can't call them Uncle Tom's but White's can refer to black men as thugs and animals?

And that sorry excuse for an ATTORNEY GENERAL says that America is afraid to talk about race. No Eric, it's not that we are afraid, it's just that YOU & yours don't want to DISCUSS - you want to dictate; ignoring such is not fear, it's simply refusing to "cast pearls before swine"!

Oh you're afraid alright. If you have to stop talking yourself and actually listen, you're afraid that you'd have to do something that changes you and your life for being complicit.

Jim Crow has got some cousins, nieces and nephews.

Now this upcoming "conference" may or not be worthwhile, cuz, IMNSHO, the legitimacy will be determined by whether there can be a TRUE dialog between all participants or if more "dead horse" apologies etc. are demanded.

If folks like you attend, I agree, it may not be worthwhile.

I agree with your post 100%.

I did not buy slaves. I did not employ slaves. I did not beat slaves. I did not hunt runaway slaves down. I did not support slavery. I did not have anything to do with slavery. So I have no guilt about something that happened more than a century ago. People paid the price of that sin, and we are moving way beyond that stain in human rights.

Let is die. And ..... quit beating that dead horse.

Slavery is dead. Those sinners have been judged and paid the price. Those sins have been forgiven. And it is time to leave that horse alone! "nuff said! :BangHead:

Eerie coincidence preceded move to expedite SBC race summit

Russell Moore and other high ranking bureaucrats of the SBC ethics agency realized they had all had a sleepless night following the Garner grand jury verdict:

Russell Moore on Racism and Southern Baptists: God Is Giving Us a Second Chance
The idea for the summit came after that jury decision. Moore spent the whole night, unable to sleep, thinking and praying about the problems of race recently revealed in those incidents and the protests surrounding them. When he went into his office the next day and met with his leadership team, he discovered that other members of his team experienced a similar sleepless night.

Wow!

The Church can help with the racial division in the United States, Moore said, by, first of all, modeling racial reconciliation within congregations. The Church needs to "model to the surrounding culture what the kingdom of God looks like and we've done a very poor job of that in contemporary American culture."

BRAVO!!!:applause::applause: It's good to see that there are some in the SBC who recognize the complicitness of the Body of Christ in the poor race relations in the US.

So Moore blames his sleepless nites on slavery problems that happened over one hundred years ago?? I think I could think up some better story for my sleepless night just last nite!!

I lost a lot of sleep due to excitement I felt when I found out the church I am a member of----acquired a vacant church plant and property and we are now in the process of reaching out to every man, woman, boy, and girl, red, yellow, black, and white---with the saving gospel of the Lord Jesus ---- I tell you what I am willing to do----I am willing to personally invite every black member of the Baptist Board to our church when we baptize our very first black person at our newly acquired church plant into the kingdom of Christ----just so they can watch and say to themselves-----this is what white people think about black people here in Birmingham, Alabama!!!! The very heart of trouble between blacks and whites took place here in Birmingham----now---instead of throwing rocks and letting loose dogs and pointing firehoses at defenseless black folks----we're baptizing them into God's kingdom!!

Perhaps Moore should spend more sleepless nites strategizing how to better reach whatever race with the saving gospel of Christ instead of trying to figure how many more times Southern Baptists need to say how sorry we are because some body in the past had a slave:type::type:

That's not what he said so I don't know where you got that from. He did say:

Perhaps you would do better to actually read what he DID say instead of spouting off the "angry white people talking point response" to what he didn't say.

He seems to recognize that followers of Christ who seem to have an air of racial prejudice and racism about them aren't gonna have much of a platform upon which to reach anyone for Christ.

It's akin to acting like we're concerned about abortion but okay with capital punishment and killing adults.

It makes the church look hypocritical and like its got a split personality.

But yall keep right on like folks are gonna think you care about their eternity while demonstrating a constant marginalizing of other folk's TODAY.

He didn't say anything in that article about apologizing or repenting of slavery. SMH.

It is utterly amazing that I know with confidence I can come to this board to see the last vestiges of white supremacy still being touted under a quasi-religious banner.

That doesn't even come close to comparing Apples and oranges. Its more like comparing apples and cat food

I swear sometimes some of you come across as just spiritually vapid. It's the exact same thing.

The hypocrisy of claiming such a love for the unborn while being okay with the killing of adults is as hypocritical as you can get.

And just like no one is gonna believe you all when you feign concern for the unborn while being okay with killing the born, no one is gonna believe you're concerned about the eternal life of ANYONE while you continue to be okay with the exercise of racial prejudice and racism against others.

Deny it as racism and racial prejudice all you want. But the onlooking world knows it is and recognizes the hypocrisy and fakeness for what it is.

Why don't some of you just walk up in spit in your neighbor's face and then tell your other onlooking neighbor that you love the neighbor whose face you spit in. SMH.

Racism is a two way street leading to Hell!! The only way to detour that destination is with backs pinned to a cross----Brother--its hard to spit in my neighbor's face with my back pinned to a cross----hyprocrits and fakes find it difficult to recognize those who display AGAPE LOVE----but you wouldn't believe that even if it were Jesus Christ telling you that from the cross He found Himself pinned against!!!!

Again nothing but pure foolishness in an attempt to lessen the complicitness of people in the church in the degradation of race relations in this country.

As Scripture speaks to , that road to hell is wide and lots of people are on it. Scripture tells us that 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Cor. 13:4-8

So if the love displayed by you and some on this board meets the definition of Agape love when you can't even bring yourself to admit that the church corporately and us as individuals ARE complicit when it comes to the state of race relations in this country, then either something is wrong with the definition that GOD gives or the cross you're pinned to ain't the one upon which Jesus bled and died, but an alternative.

A humble spirit pinned to the Cross of Jesus Christ shouldn't have to ask how many times must I apologize. A loving spirit pinned to the Cross of Jesus Christ shouldn't have to marginalize the hurts of others.

So you're wrong. I'd believe Jesus because His words were always consistent with His actions.

Well I'm glad Russell Moore and some others in the SBC disagree with ya. Prayerfully they'll keep working to mend the broken relationships that are the result of those phantom prejudices you don't think are there.

I'm talking about the idea you convey that I----personally---have prejudice tendencies ----- how do you know??? Prove to me your ability to judge what may or may not be in my heart----the racism/prejudice spirit you believe resides in me is phantom!!!! Its just not there!!! Prejudice and racism for me-----died when the Lord Jesus died----for you to say it still exists in ME-----is a bold face lie!!!!
