Due to urgency of issue, 2016 meeting is moved to early next year:

http://www.tennessean.com/story/new...baptists-discuss-race-spring-summit/20264933/

"The Southern Baptist Convention announced Thursday it will host a spring summit on racial reconciliation, moving it up from a planned 2016 date in light of the Ferguson riots and the Eric Garner grand jury ruling.

It's a significant move for the Nashville-based denomination, which was born in 1845 out of its support for slavery — a stance it formally apologized for in 1995. Just three years ago, Southern Baptists considered rebranding to move past their split with Northern congregations and increase opportunities for expansion.

The denomination kept its name, a decision the head of its ethics and public policy arm said he supported because it keeps its past sin in front of members."

From reading the source article, it appears that there may be a mindset among some that "cultural understanding" and "racial reconciliation" is a one way street. Not sure how that will work out.

Perhaps some in that mindset realize that repenting and asking for forgiveness is about being right with God. And that it doesn't matter if the other person chooses to accept the apology or not.

Somebody has to take the first step.

I am of the same opinion. they came out with an apology of sorts some years back. That should be sufficient.

The reason that the SBC should keep quiet is the murders of the policemen and others around the country. The SBC has no new theological ground here whatsoever and I don't think they have presented a good theological case in the first place. Instead the SBC is blatantly mixing in politics and doing little more than pouring gasoline on a fire in an attempt to get their names in the news no matter how many more are murdered by the clumsy SBC politicians who have no legal role in this matter. They should just go back to sleep.

They want the SBC to fund a trip to a meeting at some swank place.

The SBC needs to learn the gospel of the checkbook. When the collection plate comes around, just hand it to the person next to you.
