Report: Hundreds abused by Southern Baptist leaders, workers

People who are exposed as being part of the problem have, just as in the RCC, been shuffled out the door of one church to find their way to a repeat performance in another church. I have witnessed this. No one wants to get their hands dirty or call in the law at their church, so let’s do the easy thing & let them skate. No one will be the wiser, hopefully, except of course, God, who is watching what is going on in His house, & in His world. Who then will answer for the continuing abuse?

I have seen this behavior as well. The fellowship in the SBC is far more likely to call the law, at least that's what the report indicates to me.

Oh, but they DO cover up and 'shuffle'. Don't kid yourself! The abuser in my ex-Baptist church is STILL in the pulpit. Read the link I posted! Shows you are very wrong. Thank goodness the media is finally shining light on Baptists protecting child molestors!

Frankly, this site looks like it was written by Cath*lics in an effort to deflect from their own problems of abuse. I saw a lot of speculation and generalizations about Baptist polity, but very little evidence to support the assumptions made.

There was a lot of discussion in the link about church policy. That was a major focus, imho. The Catholic system requires a data base and the church assigns priests. The Baptist churches are autonomous, and choose their own pastors and may not know of past abuse by someone, or so the criticism went.

There was no evidence that one system was better at stopping abuse than the other, just speculation

If someone is truly redeemed and knowledgable about Scripture principles, they will withdraw from fellowship and strongly proclaim against the RCC.

When a RCC authority is involved there is typically lies and coverups, some involving the local legal authorities in which are "in bed" with the RCC and don't want to bring embarrassment to it.

Rather than try to point out who is worse, it would be better to repent that any child is abused and that the perpetrators have sometimes been allowed to move. Churches need to ruin the ministry of the offender by going to the law. Churches need to get help to the abused and their family.

This is NOT an exercise in finger pointing, it ought to lead to repentance.

I am 'truly redeemed and knowledgeable about scripture principles' and have a much closer relationship with Jesus Christ than I ever did as a Baptist. I am not about to 'withdraw from fellowship' of the Catholic Church. BTW, I nor would other Catholics describe Baptists or their churches as evil. Google: Why do Baptist hate Catholics' and you will get plenty of hits. Do the same with 'Why do Catholics hate Baptists' and you get nada! Bigotry against Catholics isn't anything new.

There are plenty of 'Catholic-in-name-only' politicians in leadership in this country. That doesn't mean they are living a life for Christ or following the teachings of the Church.

The website I posted (although it was accused of being a Catholic sponsored website to deflect Catholic abusers allegations) shows Baptists covering up and lying about Baptist clergy fiddling with kids. I watched it happen in the Baptist church I grew up in and the man is still preaching.

Once again, the link you provided made many comparisons between RRC polity and Baptist polity on this issue with the speculation that RRC polity was better at preventing abuse. That's my reason for saying what I said.

I'm not looking to argue with you about it. Abuse is a real problem in our culture and how we handle the accusations in and out of church. The article in the OP showed SBC abusers were reported and went to jail. I'm sure that didn't happen in every case, but the OP reviewed those who did.
