Luter: Preach Scripture, not 'Duck Dynasty'

http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?ID=41102

Luter says:

"Pastors, the most important thing we can do on Sunday mornings in our pulpit is not to pull out the latest story from Reader's Digest, not to pull out the latest story from National Geographic, not to tell the latest story on Duck Dynasty, but the best thing we can do ... is hear the Word of God.

"[Preach] not the latest in politics, not the latest in denominational issues during the preaching time, [but] the Word of God," Luter said, "... words that bring nourishment to dry bones, words that bring strength to brittle bones [and] words that bring life to lifeless bones."

HALLELUJAH!!!! Somebody else gets it. We constantly talk about this political /social issue or that political/social issue in our churches just like we do on this board. and we become known for that.

PREACH the word of GOD!!!

Wonderful article that deserves to be read in full by every person on this board.

It was a very insightful statement as there are plenty of Christians preaching Duck Dynasty from the pulpit, Facebook and the BB.

In the space of these last few months, I shutter to think how many Baptist churches have made much of Duck Dynasty under the guise of Godliness?

Preach the word of GOD!!!
Engage people with the word of GOD!!!

Are people preaching Duck Dynasty? How would you even do that? What is he saying? Don't preach about family values, good work ethic? I'm not a fan of the show but I'm all for the type of things they talk about on the show.

Agree with Rev, stupid comment. (Aaaah, that's twice in one week!)

The truth though is that by proclaiming and teaching what God addresses in the Bible, we will indeed be into social affairs, as the Bible would ahve us adress the sin of things such as gay marriage, active Homosexuality, Abortion etc!

maybe a twinge of jealousy that Christians are turning onto the Ducks, and not into the church so much?

I think his statement was dead on. You preach Duck Dynasty the same way you preach that Mormonism is okay by endorsing such a candidate.

As my granddaddy used to say: Be careful what horse you hitch your buggy to.

You don't need to elevate the platform of false teachers in order to preach good Biblical values.

And that's part of how we get known for the wrong things be it an association with an issue or people.

Preach the word!!!

No one said to not proclaim the teachings of God. That's exactly what I'm saying and what Dr. Luter said.

There's no need to preach about gay marriage. It ain't in the Bible. Preach the word and if you want to juxtapose the unGodly with Biblical truth that's fine.

But the Church comes to be known for what we're against instead of Who we are for because we wax on and on about what we're against while adding the Biblical truth as a footnote. Let God be the headliner.

I think some people are jealous and should be more like Paul:

"Whether their motives are false or genuine, the message about Christ is being preached either way, so I rejoice. And I will continue to rejoice." - Philippians 1:18

IOW, stop putting down people who are getting the Gospel out and get out there with the Gospel yourself!

Why don't you do it? All we hear from you is how sorry we are etc, etc. because we aren't as holy as Zaac.

Me thinks the motive behind all this is concern over the criticism of a corrupt and racist President who supports the unfettered slaughter of unborn children and who happens to be black. Heaven forbid that happens.

That's an indictment upon the church.

I seriously doubt that he's jealous about Duck Dynasty. He just recognizes what a lot of folks in the church and on here don't: folks in the church get pumped up and excited about everything but Jesus.

You say something negative about gays...Baptists will racuously applaud and amen ya.
You say something negative about the President and his policies or administration...Baptists will racuously applaud and amen ya.
You speak about the Christian values that we say we hold dear(even though the statistics don't speak to it being as dear as we claim),...Baptists will racuously applaud and amen ya.
You say something negative about abortion...Baptists will racuously applaud and amen ya.

But start preaching about the love of Jesus and His love for others and we become Baptist cute in our pews.

Preach the word and be known for doing THAT!

Why don't you do it?

I do. And just like in the OT, somebody has to keep pointing it out to God's people because we act like we don't have a clue. All this raling about folks outside the church, when the problems arise from what we do INSIDE the church while trying to sell it under the guise of Godliness.

All we hear from you is how sorry we are etc, etc. because we aren't as holy as Zaac.

You hear what you want which is exactly why so many in the church didn't have a problem endorsing men for President who are against Christ.

Always the same excuse.

Pure, unfettered silliness to make this an issue of race.

You're constantly talking about the unborn children as though you love them so much, but your comments seem to never show a love for those who aren't in the womb.

Reverend has apparently become as much as useless a title as has Apostle.

Always the same old false criticism. The election was almost two years ago- get over it.

And here is part of the problem why we should be preaching the word and not issues or people. They preach a false Gospel so why keep giving the devil a toehold?

He is encouraging pastors to preach the word of GOD and not issues or people.

Tell that to those of you who do everything but pray for the President who God commands you to pray.

Seemingly a lot of angry folks who call themselves Christians on and off this board need to get over it.

You got a man in this thread who puts forth his title as reverend calling the President a "corrupt racist who supports the unfettered slaughter of unborn children and happens to be black."

But I suppose that somebody is to believe that this man and those who are equally angry about stuff that's irrelevant to eternity are sincerely praying for this President as commanded of God?

Yes the church is indeed known for negativity and being against this, that and the other. When are we gonna become known for our love of Jesus and others? Cause if this board is any indication, folks like to say one thing under the guise of religiosity because they don't like folks pointing out the obvious hypocrisy, but the actions and words of the many CLEARLY speaks of angry folks who ain't let nothing go.

Preach the word!!!

I was talking to an unsaved relative the other day and the subject came up about the Minnonites. In his eyes they are, as he say's good people because of the way they dress and they don't have modern appliances and don't mix and mingle with the worldly crowed. I told him if the Minnonites are depending on these things as good works to get them to heaven then they are as lost as the eastern religion crowd. My relative admitted he didn't know much about the bible but these people were by their appearances good witnesses to the world and therefore saved in his eyes. When a group of people talk about Christian values or dress like Christian should dress this is still not the gospel, this is not the message about Christ. The message that saves lost sinners is a message that Christ saves sinners, low down hell deserving, bankrupt, depraved sinners.
