Most Fundamentalists and Evangelicals agree that there is Biblical mandate to separate from unbelief and apostacy. However, what divides the two camps is who, among other believers, they are willing or unwilling to fellowship with.
You have the "lunatic fringe", such as Hyles-Anderson, who would separate over the King James issue. You have balanced Fundamentalists, such as Bob Jones, who separate from compromise. You have mild Evangelicals, such as Cederville, who would probably separate from extreme apostacy, but certainly not from compromise. And you have blatant New Evangelicals, such as Billy Grahams' organization, who will hold hands with unbelief and apostacy.
So, in this matter of separation, where do you stand?

I consider myself to be a balanced Fundamentalist. I would definitely separate from compromise.

Let us not forget that we should separate from the Slick Willy Graham camp and the Hyles-Anderson camp. They are both a stench in the nostrils of God.

I want to be as staight down the line as possible.

BTW, Scott your last name and my first name are the same!

Cline (both of you!!) I want to be straight down the line too, but I want to be sure the line is based on the Word of God, not the whims of man.

I would probably find myself between BoJo and C'ville. But the older I get and the more ridiculous some of the "separation" issues become (like slacks, tracks, and blacks) the more inclusive I become.

Right, what I'm dealing with is not separation over "man's doctrines", such as those you mentioned. But rather the matter of ecclesiastical affiliations- you know, degrees of separation from actual unbelief or apostacy.

Your gaps between groups, was to wide.

So! I didn't vote.

But I do stand some where, if I had to make a choice, between Hyles & Bob.

Yes, there are gaps. I suppose you could classify every degree of separation, or every level of strictness, as its own camp. For instance, places between BoJo and H-A would be like Crown College, etc. And between BoJo and C'ville you might have Appalachian. I simply classified main divisions.

Scott, as a broad outline I thought your classifications were OK. I consider myself to be somewhere between BJ and Cedarville as well.

I am smack dab in the middle too. Probably more cedarville leaning than BJU

I believe separation is done by most in fundamental circles for all the wrong reasons, no one really tries to understand where the other guy is coming from, and what they agree on, but if that guy allows slacks on the women and a gaither song here and there, well, I guess we can't be in the same softball league!

Looks like I'm going to have to separate from SuperDave over this.

He plays softball, and we all know that softball leads to baseball, and they serve beer at baseball games. And play on Sunday.

And did you see A League of Their Own movie? Obscene outfits those gals wore.

We've got trouble, right here in River City
Trouble with a capital T that thymes with B
And stands for BASEBALL

BETWEEN Hyles and Bob??
That's not possible.

My perception of BJU is that they are to the right of "balanced."
I am just to the left of Falwell.

From talking to students and graduates from both, neither of them consider each to be even close to each other. BJU people say the HA is extreme right. And the crowd from HA consider BJU to the liberal left of them.

After knowing each and watching each, in my opinion, I think they are both right! :D

Neither one, wants to be in each others camp.

As to the left of Falwell, I can now understand your statement about being LEFT.

As people from the liberal left would view the two as close! But us that are between the two, or just on each side of them, see the gigantic gap between them!

Gigantic gap? That is hardly the case. Have you ever been to either school? I have been to both of them. I attended an ULTRA-Conservative church and we were sent to them in an attempt to convince us to attend. Perhaps the schools do not want to admit it, but they are more alike than they are different. Each school has taken Extreme Fundamentalism and made it a science.
I attended an art class at one of these schools, and the instructor was unfamiliar with Jackson Pollack (my absolute favorite artist). One of the schools did not even print the Millers Tale in the Canterbury Tales (in the textbook). [As you have probably deduced, I am a Purist who possesses a bona fide LOVE for the English language.] I was also informed that Sigmund Freud was "a pervert."

As for being on the LEFT, you misunderstood me. I am to the left of Falwell. I am indeed Progressive, but I am not a Leftist.

Actually, there is as large a gap between BJU and HA as there is between BJU and Liberty. There is very little that they have in common with the exception of having someone's name attached to the school. Even at that, Hyle did it out of ego; BJSr did it only reluctantly.

And I hardly think that judging a school by whether or not your favorite anything is well known is a solid standard for judgment. Surely, you spoke that in jest.

Once again, I am waiting to hear what they might be. I have been to both schools, and there are more likenesses than differences. What contrasting doctrinal issues do they possess?

Perhaps your post was tongue-in-cheek?
When did I judge them, other than to note that the instructor wasn't familiar with Jackson Pollack? BTW, that was Jackson Pollack: the artist who singlehandedly moved the center of the art world from Paris to New York, a substantial feat in anyone's book.
Simply stating a fact does not comprise judgement. Of course, I am sure that you already knew that.

Here are some differences off the top of my head. Others may be able to add to the list:

1. One is KJV-only, the other is not.
2. One believes in man-centered soulwinning, the other does not.
3. One believes that soulwinning covers a multitude of sins, the other does not.
4. One believes in out-of-context topical preaching, the other does not.
5. One believes in easy-believism, the other does not.
6. One believes in leadership hero worship, the other does not.
7. One treats women like dirt, the other does not.
8. One maintains low academic standards, the other does not.
9. One emphasizes numbers, the other does not.
