    Sats

SATS - the South African Theological Seminary:
They are fully Accredited in both the USA and Europe:

    International Recognition of SATS Qualifications

Both the International Education Research Foundation, Inc. (www.ierf.org) and American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers’ International Education Services (http://ies.aacrao.org) have rated the SATS Masters and PhD programmes as representing the attainment of a level of education comparable to the same degree in theology from a regionally accredited university in the United States. Whilst in Germany and Switzerland our qualifications are also recognised: see our listing on the respected German site: www.anabin.kmk.org
Per the MTh, the AACRAO evaluation states: The master’s degree from the South African Theological Seminary represents attainment of a level of education comparable to a master’s degree in theology from a regionally accredited university in the United States.

I took some courses from SATTS they are definitely not a diploma mill. I had one course on the opt testament and the assignments were required a LOT of work.

You will definitely get a lot of knowledge on the subject matter.

Since I started this thread (a while ago), then I thought I should say this:

I am no longer considering this seriously or at all. I don't think SATS could help me qualify for what I would like to do with a PhD.

I am considering not even doing a PhD. I am getting sick of school. I am ready to read stuff that I want to read in a broad area of study rather than a focused study (of say my thesis research of Rev. 2-3 and the OT).

If I did one, it would probably be a Euro style PhD. It could be a South Africa school (possibly U of Pretoria). But part of me is ready to stop the glut of evangelicals who have no business getting PhD's. I am not sure I am PhD caliber, and I know many who are in PhD programs who have no business being there. That degree needs to be sanctified in Christianity. Hard to preach this when I don't practice it.

    Greektim,

Did you ever pursue the PhD at SATS of any other university? Just checking.

I have retired and started the Duke Consulting Group. I published three of my own works last Summer. I have one book of essays on a prominent Baptist figure coming out this year DV. I have signed another contract for another book of essays on another prominent Baptist teacher-scholar. I have another book of my own I am trying to ready the final edits and re-writes. I hope to get it out by Christmas. And I have been asked to the the Scholar-In-Residence for an apologetic think-tank. There I am writing a periodical block on Christian's encounters with different people in the Pilgrims Progress. My works can be found at Roger Duke. And the blog can be read / seen at Stage and Story https://www.stageandstory.org/. This is not for ego. It is just to demonstrate that if you get a PhD or terminal degree you will have to keep on producing even if you do retire, it is just in the blood I suppose.

Let me know where you are in your educational pursuits and I hope you do well in the very, very difficult corner of the Master's vineyard.

    sdg!

Wow... that's going way back. I got closer w/ Pretoria than SATS (and a few other UK schools). But I ultimately settled on Capital Seminary. Very happy with the choice too. Since I am in the reformed tradition, it forces me to be sharp.

And I understand the need to publish or perish. I have an article coming out in the 2018 Journal of the Institute of Reformed Baptist Studies. I got 2 articles out of my thesis published in Neotestamentica and Andrews University Seminary Studies. So I feel the pain. But dissertation is about to take #1 priority.

    Dear Brother,

Good to hear from you. So you are at the dissertation stage? Do you want to teach, my assumption if that the "publish or perish" quote would settle that issue for my understanding? I am glad you went the way you did. Some who have pursued a South Africa degree have a hard time finding, and many don't find a place to teach. One word of advice I would give if you want to hear it? Take whatever comes available if you can get a full time gig teaching. Then if you can find an additional place maybe later. Even a modest position is better than no position at all. And you know the drill. You must keep doing what you are doing already to make a name for yourself. It is sad but true in this venue.

Can you please, either private email me the papers you have published or send me hyperlinks to where they have been posted. I have some time invested in you and want to see if I have a goodly return on my investment? LOL!

And maybe you and I can get together and write something?

Keep in touch and I am praying for your success as I type this. God speed!

PS What discipline are you pursuing I forgot to ask??

What did you mean by "Since I am in the reformed tradition, it forces me to be sharp"?

    Advise when possible.

Capital Seminary is a Dallas Seminary on the east coast. So solid scholarship but form a dispensational perspective.
