Saved by grace, Baptist by conviction. Have not been to a Catholic Mass and don't plan on going to one. Perish the thought!

I have been a Baptist all my life. In fact, I am a 7th generation Baptist. I have never even been inside a Catholic Church. The closest thing to a Catholic Church I have ever been to was Evensong at Westminster Abbey in London. It was a touristy thing.

 

I have sung at a Catholic wedding mass and spoken at a funeral mass.

Surely you would attend the funeral of a dear loved one. Even if they disagreed with you?

If all your family and friends are saved Baptists then you are a blessed individual. Please pray for those of us who love people who are not saved.

I dont supose it is always your choice where the funeral is held. What is the point in not attending, will you be tanted somehow by their Catholicness.

Can a Christian not even enter a church he disagrees with and where do you draw the line?

One more question. My Mom is LDS my father is Catholic would you advise me to not attend their funeral when the time comes?

 

I have been and am sure I will go again. I have even attended a mass that was not a funeral or a baptism.

The vast majority of my friends are Catholic, at least in name. Even the vast majority of Christians here have Catholic families.

Why would I not go to a funeral mass for family of people I care about?

 

I've never been to a Catholic church for a wedding or a funeral. I used to work at a Motherhouse (place where old nuns go to die) for a couple of years and went into the chapel a couple of times, once out of curiosity, and the other for a Christmas service.

 

I find this to be a very sad attitude. This was not what Jesus was referring to when he said let the dead bury the dead.

I agree with C4K, why would I not attend the funeral of a loved one that was catholic?

 

I have been to funerals for family. I agree with C4K, Why would I not go to the funeral of people I care about. Going doesn't make me a Catholic, and I do not participate in the mass at all.

 

I went to Catholic schools as a child and through their CCD classes.

I'm embarrassed to admit it now, but about five years ago I seriously considered converting to Roman Catholicism.

This was more out of nostalgia for warm memories from my childhood than out of any real sort of conviction on my part.

Once I had a chance to step back and really study Roman Catholic beliefs and especially now that I've had a chance to engage them about their beliefs on ChristianForums, there's no way in Hell (no pun intended) that I want anything to do with them.

Honestly? I would consider Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses better Christians than Roman Catholics.

The Roman Catholic Church is a wicked, anti-Christ organization.

 

Catholic funerals are nothing but show. Like a final queue of clowns in a parade. Knights of Columbus are always seen in them in full comical regalia.

The Word of God convicts me of participating with anything within the catholic church, so, no. Even if it were my brother or sister's funeral, I would not attend.

Your relpy seems harsh and insensitive. Tell me, do you have Catholic family? If you don't how can you possibly understand the situation of those of us who do. Perhaps your "conviction" would be differnt then.

Also give me chapter and verse that says you should not attend a relatives funeral in a Catholic church. Where is your conviction based?

I was going to ask the same thing. Can anyone provide a Bible reason why if a good friend's mother dies and her funeral is in a Catholic Church that I should not be there for him? Especially if he is a brother in Christ?

Been to several Catholic funerals - never seen the KofC there, comical regalia or not. Since you have never been SFIC, why do you say that KofC are "always seen" there in "full comical regalia"?

No one here that I know of is supporting the Catholic Church in an way. I want to be there for a Christian friend who realises that his mother or father who have died are very likely in hell. He needs a friend there to show Christ' love instead of all the false religion he is going to see in the funeral.

How do I lovingly tell a brother in Christ that I am not going to be with him at his parent's funeral?

When I go, everyone knows I am the Baptist pastor. I do not partake in any aspect of the mass, I am just there for my friends.

 

I'll endure a Catholic funeral for a loved one. But that's it. I won't participate in their communions, and I won't repeat the mass sentences. I agree with Mike McK.
