J.R.,

Are you still here? I thought you were leaving in a huff. Why don't you go find some other board where people are more spiritual like yourself?

JB, whether the brother is aggressive with his posts or not, they have an air of truth to them. Come on, brother - you know your posting about brother Hunt or to this poster isn't Christ-like. Is there no room for learning or correction on your part?

You really shouldn't use sarcasm in calling others "more spiritual." We've all seen your posts. (many of which I agree with by the way) But the way you come across does matter.

No, that is not what I am saying. My point is that the convention is moving away from the "conservative resurgence" and towards are more popularist position. The conservative resurgence was based on Scripture and solid theology (in large part). The modern movement is based on felt needs, filling seats, and counting heads.

Martin.
I agree i haven't read all the post yet but Martin is right. today more and more preacher are "tickling" peoples ears preaching what they want to hear. the bible said this would happen in the last days.
It's much easier to preach topical sermons than theological ones.

Pastor Hunt is preaching on Acts 16:11-15. In it he notes that Lydia was a worshipper of God, but not a believer in God. And then goes on to call her a seeker of God. I think so far, Pastor Hunt has stretched a bit to come to his conclusions, because I think he has either overlooked or ignored a key part of the passage:

The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message.
Perhaps, he doesn't discuss this part because he doesn't want to get into the meat of what is being said here and cause a controversy. I do not know where Pastor Hunt stands on this issue, but I think it is clear within the passage that Lydia would not have sought God had God not opened her heart to the message of Paul. I think he is building a case that the lost seek God on their own while ignoring the fact that it is God who drew Lydia and opened her heart to the truth. He then goes on to state the following, and this is a direct quote because I typed it in the notes section underneath the video as soon as I heard him say it:

I believe with all my heart that they desire to know the true God all powerful
This was Pastor Hunt talking about the Kurdish Muslims. Those who are lost do not seek God and his ways. They seek the wisdom of this world and whatever satisfies themselves.

Perhaps, I am misunderstanding Pastor Hunt here, but it sounds to me so far as if he is building a case against the total depravity of man and for the ability for lost mankind to choose Jesus on their own power and free will...and all they need is for us to go and convince them of their need for Jesus. I will continue to listen and see if this is really what he is saying, or if, at any point, he will make any mention of the regenerating power of God to overcome the free will of sinful man and save them from their sin.

I am glad he did make this statement, finally:

Only God could have orchestrated what's been going on in the book of Acts through restoration, through Church planting, last week and now through missions. I want to move on to a third statement...
I wish he would have dealt with that a little further, but I understand a person only has so much time, I guess. Perhaps, my earlier assumption about him might have been wrong. I hope so.

Just finished watching the sermon, and I think I am beginnning to see a little bit of what Brother Blackbird talks about. From what I saw of this sermon, it looks as if God is using him in a mighty way.

I look forward to learning more about him and hopefully, be encouraged by his ministry.

JR,

You really don't like it when folks question pastors or challenge their teachings, do you? I simply made an observation based on my limited (admittedly) knowledge of the man that I didn't think he was very sound. After listening to more of him and learning more about him, I am beginning to change my mind. I am sorry that I am not humble enough to meet your standards. Maybe if I strive a bit harder, one day I will reach your level of humility and be worthy of a civil conversation with you and not be too much for you to bear. But, maybe, just maybe, you can overlook my arrognace a bit and show more grace in the way you address me and we can actually discuss some things about doctrine and what we believe. What do you say?

Sorry, everyone.
This thread was not meant for all the SBC folks to bicker about politics. But, hey: if the SBC embraces sodomy, what will y'all do about it?

Yeah, threads do seem to go off-topic, don't they?

I'll answer the question directly. If the SBC embraces homosexuality, I will not be SBC. The thing is, I don't see that happening.
