Well bless your heart, I think all of us Americans understand that freedom is confusing and backwards to much of statist Europe, the UK included ;).

That's why my family, and others fled those cesspools in Europe in the 1600s and fought our way through the wilderness and built a civilization out of almost nothing. My ancestors fled from Scotland, Ireland, Northern England, Ulster and France.

It's ok though, we still love y'all in the UK as one of our favorite allies. You're like our little brother and we'll always be there to put on our superhero cape and pick up the UK's slack.

Yep they are the reasons we have these laws.

Each state in the U.S has the power to make laws on anything not enumerated to the Federal Government Constitution as per the 10th Amendment. The SCOTUS was reluctant to actually enforce the 10th Amendment until this ruling. So yes, each state has a high level of autonomy and each state has its own militia (National Guard) under the power of the Governor.
But the National Guard really obeys the pentagon during war. The governors sign them over as a mear formality. Let a govenor not sign them over during war time and they will go anyway.

I'm not sure about that. The most recent example I can think of is the Guard was called up for the January 6th protest and several Gov's refused. I don't know how they were called up, whether it was voluntary or not.

Same with with putting the Guard on the southern border.

Life is a sacred gift from God. I take great joy in today’s successful defense against the demons in this world who would and do fight to have it otherwise.

man, your country seems so confused and backwards! Here in England, which is made up of a number of Counties, when a Law is passed by the House of Parliament, it is for the entire country, even those "Counties" that might object to it! It is the Law of the WHOLE LAND, not parts of it!
You have no idea how our government works. Please stop parading your ignorance.

It is a very different system than England.

The federal government passes federal laws that govern the whole country. Often, states will pass laws that mirror the federal law. States also pass laws to genera just their states. Each state polices its own people.

Violations of law can be brought by state prosecutors for violations of state law, or federal prosecutors for violations of federal law. Sometimes both are involved.

peace to you

Dead man walking Boris Johnson is upset about this, too, he needs to stay in his own lane.

yeah, and this is another reason neverTrumpers should have been ignored - three of these were his appointees, this decision, any of the other decisions this session would have gone the way if they had been successful in electing Hillary.

When Congress passes a law it is for the entire country. The difference is states also have rights. There are state and federal laws.

Prior to Roe vs Wade states determined if abortion would be legal (abortion was never illegal in the US as a country). Roe vs Wade took that decision from the state. Overturning it made it a state issue again.

This isn't entirely true.
Scotland (especialy), Wales and Northern Ireland have varying degrees of devolution. Not everything decided in Parliament applies to the whole of Britain.

Actually before the War Between the States ( usually incorrectly known as the "Civil War") individuals considered themselves citizens of their State/Commonwealth. - During our War of Independence a large majority of fighing units were Stat militias - not a federal Army.

In addition, our 10th amendment states that items not listed in our Constitution belong .to the States/commonwealth.

So, our country began as a union of 13 individual States/commonwealths

... and each state has its own militia (National Guard) under the power of the Governor.

And several States/Commonwealths have a State military that doesI NOT come under control of the Pentagon; with a couple of small exceptions.
In addition, those militias are independent of each other.
For example, If I were in the VA NG and moved to NY - all I would have to do is submit a DA Form 4187 and request a transfer to the NY Guard.
However, I was in the Virginia Defense Force - and before I could enlist in the NY Guard, I had to be discharged from the VADF. Now, NY did accept my promotion to E-7 in VA.

Here is the list of S/C with a State Guard:
State Guard Association of the United States - Wikipedia

In addition, Fla is in the process of starting a Guard.

I hope this does not go too far off OP
But on a FB page, a liberal stated this:
"Y’all aren’t even cognizant enough to realize that this will go far beyond reproductive rights. Say bye-bye to HIPAA."

and this is just the beginning
