    Cracker Barrel!!!!!
One of the only ones I know of that is not on an "I"; well, 'cept for the one in Myrtle Beach, but there IS the volume there. I was told that one of the "wheels" of CB lived on the lake here (Lake Greenwood, in SC) and that's the reason one's here. T or F I don't know; I'm just glad we have it here.

My pick is the "smokehouse" simply because as I've aged, my gastral(?) capacity has diminished. Loved the "Uncle Hershel" tho'.

Basically every Sat AM with my wife, and average 3 time/mo otherwise with an ex working buddy. Same order 95% of the time - Eggs o'med., crisp bacon, & sourdough toast grilled - in lieu of biscuits.

Oh, as to another post - grits w/ sugar is too "yankee"! Butter and/ or gravy, yes, but sugar NO!!

What is the matter with all of you (as distinct from y'all)? No one has yet mentioned IHOP.

What? Sugar on grits? And you call yourself a West Virginian?:tonofbricks:

Salt. Butter. Maybe cheese. But never, ever sugar!

At Cracker Barrel, the order of choice is the Sunrise Sampler, IMHO

always sugar on grits with butter, everyone here eats them that way.
I love the sausages at Cracker Barrel, but usually order turkey sausage, 1 egg, biscuit and maybe a little gravy., I think that comes with hash brown casserole too don't remember.

That's because IHOP made be mistaken for "I hop." which is akin to dancing. We all know where dancing will lead y'all. Which would be a big surprise seeing y'all eating at breakfast buffets and there is no way you can dance while carrying a plate of waffles and bacon.

...and a note to TinyTim.... I am as Yankee as they get. Even I know putting sugar on grits just ain't right. :wavey:

you all know you can get the hash brown casserole recipe online right, tastes just like carcker barrel. Search for copycat recipes, it has colby cheese and cream of chicken soup in it.

found one, it has to have colby cheese to taste like cracker barrel, it's the only cheese they use. This recipe is a little big for us, I would ahve to cut it in half.

    CopyCat Recipes
Cracker Barrel Hash Brown Casserole Recipe

    Ingredients:
    Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 F. Place potatoes mixed whith cheese in greased 9 x 13-inch pan, sprinle with salt and pepper to taste. In bowl, combine onions, sour cream, and cream of chicken soup.
    Pour soup mixture over potatoes.
Bake uncovered in 350°F oven for 45 minutes or until cheese is melted
    Makes 6 servings.

Well out of all those ingredients the only one that can be found here is butter.

We have something that is like sour cream, but not exactly the same. And we have other kinds of cheese we could try but they do not taste like colby. And we would have to shred our own potatoes since they do not have frozen hash browns.

But thanks for the recipe. I think I will pass it on to the wife and see what happens.

If you google, you should find recipes for making your own cream of (whatever) soup and some substitutions you could try. In place of sour cream, you can also use plain yogurt. Do you have a cheese that tastes like cheddar? If so, it can be used.

With the potatoes, just boil your potatoes a few minutes and grate them while still semi-firm if you can't find the frozen kind. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the information. We do have a cheese that is so what like cheddar, the flavor and consistency are a bit different. But we can give it a try.

My wife has tried to make numerous recipes from the US, even some with ingredients we can find here, however they always come out different than what they did back in the States. We have yet to figure out why this is he case.

    Thanks again.

Creamy soup substutite would be like a white sauce made with chicken boullion.Disolve boullion in water. Make a roux from equal parts butter(melted) and flour, slowly add in the water & boullion, whisk to keep out lumps. There you have a creamy soup substutite.
For the hash browns, shred your potaotes(food processor or shredder, mandolin), and press in a kitchen towel to remove exces moisture.
He could use shredded cheddar, but it will slightly change the flavor.
