Can someone tell me what are the pluses and minuses of this platform? I have a number of things to add but want to hear others.

What does this have to do with Baptists and theology?

A baptist wrote a book on this subject you know. However if this is OT for this board then I apologize. Mods you may move this if appropriate. Not sure if it's OT or Mitchell is criticizing me.

There are NO plusses. Facebook and Twitter were invented by non-elect totally depraved people. Social media are worldly tools of the devil used to facilitate worldly people to fornicate and commit adultery. It also allows Arminians to spread their false version of the gospel.

Also, the hours and hours of time wasted on them is shameful. Christians that use these worldly devices need to repent and as penance listen to WOTM podcasts via the devil inspired and worldly Internet on their Satanic smartphones.

Wow.

I have a Facebook account, and I have been able to get hold of many friends from my High School days. Most live in Florida, but they are spread out all over. It is nice to keep in touch.

I also have been able to keep in touch with some cousins that I haven't seen since I was a kid, and my deceased brother's kids in N.C., Va, and Ky.

That's about all I use it for, I don't spend much time there.

So you have a good use for it according to a particular BAPTIST pastor. However he strongly cautions against misuse such as the following.

Gossip-- This happens all the time on FB and not just from unbelievers.
Posting inappropriate content- Many have gotten FIRED for this. Yesterday a brother in the Lord posted some photos of something that happened at his job. His company is lenient but I know companies that would FIRE or discipline an employee for that he did.
Materialism
time wasting-- Many are ADDICTED to FB and cary their phones around just for that purpose.
false identity
self-focused-- Many write and focus only on themselves. Very self absorbed.

I have seen every single one of these issues on that Baptistboard .... (and I'd better not say anything more lest I have to repent of mean-spiritedness.)

Used to happen over the backyard fence while the womenfolk were hanging out the wash. Christian women should avoid the clothesline at all cost. :wavey:

Really? There are people like this?

Also FB can be a place for those to launch crusades especially some here on the BB whom have launched crusades against Calvinism. This may not be the healthiest way to use time especially since we are correct. :)

If you could see my pile of laundry on my couch, you'd know that I avoid that particular task as best I can.:laugh:

and the same was said of Radio and TV-
Yet, when used properly they can be of great benefit.

Think of water and fire - both can be extremly dangerously, yet when used properly and with proper contro - they are a great asset to our life.

Eccl. 12:10-12, "The Preacher sought to find delightful words and to write words of truth correctly. The words of wise men are like goads, and masters of these collections are like well-driven nails; they are given by one Shepherd. But beyond this, my son, be warned: the writing of many books is endless, and excessive devotion to books is wearying to the body."

Some are very wise in what they write and say while others are unwise. The unwise would be best if they said or wrote nothing others would read.

I've seen more harm done to others on Baptistboard than i ever have on FB. which is why i rarely visit this dungeon of Gossip, hatred, and narcissists that think their way is the only right way.

Really??? FB is a popularity contest when most "christians" do not give a rat about talking about the Bible. I have seen people talk about nothing but themselves, talk about "poop" and other inappropriate things and get tons of likes and replies while I get completely ignored on that site posting about theology and such. People have different standards for themselves and their friends than people they do not like.

Don't know what I ever did to some of these people as I have always tried to be encouraging and to respond to their posts positively, but I get completely ignored. I am spending less and less time on FB for good reason. So much goofiness on that site and I am sick of it. My brother feels the same, however he deleted his FB account. I dislike people that are nice to my face but don't care about me personally as its called hypocrisy. As I said less and less time on FB....

One example. A certain popular personality has lots of FB followers and everything he says gets a dozen likes. However this person is not the best example of a Christian whom is very argumentative, divisive, has been arrested, listens to questionable music, and the like. I would not follow this person, hover dozens of naive christians follow this person.
