They were still in their sinful practice of prejudice and wanted to just go the the Jews but Christ had said go into all the world.
17 If then God gave unto them the like gift as he did also unto us, when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?
18 And when they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then to the Gentiles also hath God granted repentance unto life. Acts 11
It's clear they were not acting out of prejudice as you wrongly accuse them, they sincerely did not perceive non-Jews to be included in the 'great commission', as you call it. They're actually REJOICING at the inclusion of the Gentiles here.
