Sue~you know what? The cabbage soup diet is kinda like labour pains...AWFUL while it's happening('specially the banana-nana-bo-bana day), but after it's over, you think...it t'wernt so bad after all! [Especially since another pound is gone this a.m.] PTL!!!

So! I will tuck it away & perhaps bring it out again in a little while. I think it had been 10yrs since I last did it. And while I'm sitting here thinking of you doing it, I get even more encouraged. Hang in there gal...we're gonna make it! Brent, you keep after your dear Granny to do this, 'k? God bless y'all.

Jed, your way of healthy eating sounds like a *winner* to me!

Thanks Granny! And I'm proud of YOU for sticking to it for 7 days and losing 10 more #!!!

I am making my cabbage soup today so it will be ready for breakfast! I will eat plums, pears, and apples in between meals and before bedtime.

I showed Brent what you said and he giggled. He will be a big help because he already has the diet memorized for each day!

I don't have trouble with sweets. Suppose I could skip the "B" day????????

I've cut out my Ramen noodles and lost three lbs in 2 weeks !! ok I'm not moving fast but, when I get there i'm hoping those fat cells will just stay away !!! Congrats to you all !!!

Sue~here's how I made my soup(in case someone else wants to try this): Instead of doing the chopped celery, pepper, onion thing, I bought 4 cans of diced tomatoes with celery/pepper/onions. Neato! Then I added the cabbage(couldn't find a big one, so it was small), & poured V-8 Spicey in there. I added a package of Lipton's Beefy Onion Soup mix & some Beefy French-Onion bouillon. It wasn't too bad! The last time I made it, I don't recall there being these choices.

What got me on the "B" day was the combo of the cabbage & 'nanas...guess it finally got to me, as my tummy hurt! And I called myself making a banana-slushie with the skim milk & drank myself silly. I felt sooo sick, haha.

It was hard not having sugar in my tea, but I did it, even tho' I usually use half Splenda. I bought "no sugar added" cranberry juice too. I love can spinach, so that was one of my green leafy choices. The baked potato was yummy, altho it had been awhile with just plain with butter.(always put xtra dollops of sour cream.)

I loved day five...finally some meat! And day 6 was wonderful too! Today I've had brown rice for b'fast & lunch. I've missed my OJ, so will enjoy that glass in the a.m. Guess there's something in that soup that works. I am looking forward to the next 5 pounds coming off, as I feel highly motivated; just what I needed!

IAB-- The Cabbage Soup Diet is a low fat, low calorie, high fiber soup-based diet. I hope you can make it through the week without experiencing the possible side effects of diarrhea, gas, nausea, weakness, light-headedness, and boredom. When you return to eating normal, you may be disappointed when you gain weight because you're replacing the temporary water loss. --Jed

Hey Lea~I have a dear young friend who absolutely lives on those noodles! I always tell her "it's the 'simplicity' of them, right" 'cuz I don't find them all that great, haha. I can't eat too much of it for the high-salt content. (my BP) I do like the spicier ones, tho'.

Three pounds in 2wks. is SUPER! Keep up the good work!

It took me quite awhile to take off the major weight & it has stayed off, but those nagging last pounds go up and down, up and down. HATE!

Hey there Jed! Sure thanks for those wise words...I had read all that on the 'net. The first time I tried it, I didn't have much info & never made it all the way thru. But like I told ya up front, don't look to me for any good advice on healthy eating, sweetie. I'm at the age it don't make no never mind anymore.

I have these "senior moments" where anything goes...and it usually does~!

GG-- I did notice you said that "I just sit around thinking of crazy things to do to motivate me to lose those last pounds." I suppose after losing 150 pounds you may want some variety in your approach! However, as you've done your research on the net, I'm sure you've read that there are "quick/temporary fixes" out there that are harmless, some just remove weight from your wallet, but some can cause real harm to your body. I tend to be pretty cautious and skeptical when it comes to short-term solutions for weight loss. For most folks it took a long time to get where they are and it's going to take a while to get back. I believe that slow and steady wins!

Boy, I sure wish I'd had you around when I was younger. Raising babies and feeding others got outta hand with me. One morning I woke-up and wondered what on earth happened to me! Never saw it coming... By then, the damage was done.

I don't think I can harm myself any worse than what's already been done, and I don't go to doctors, so I do have to be more careful. It took me more than 30 years to go from 110 to 330+, and I took off the major part in less than five. I know I'll never see 110 again-and wouldn't want to, but I will succeed in reaching my final goal.

No problemo about lifting the weight from an empty wallet, haha. Anything that costs more than what's in my grocery budget can fly right on outta here. How about suggesting me a good menu as to what I need to eat for a week. I will follow it.

Cabbage soup is made. Doesn't smell too bad. LOL.

I just about backed out tonight when I read the diet again though.

I missed the part about not drinking skim milk every day! I NEVER have a meal without skim milk. That will be the hardest part for me! I will have DT's if I can't have my milk...

And it was just the opposite for me, cuz I NEVER drink milk, especially skim! I can hardly wait till it's over to hear how well you did. Now I DID walk every morning, but you're a LOT more active than I'll EVER be!

Hello Everyone

There is now 42 lbs less of me since Easter! I have approached weightloss a bit differently than in the past. It has been somewhat less weight loss focused and more overall health foused. I have had 3 uncles diagnosed with adult diabetes (all 3 have since passed away from heart related poblems). Then late last year my mother was also diagnosed with the same diabetic condition. Based on some other physical traits I tend to follow my mother's side of the family in this respect. However, my father passed away at 69 from a heart attack. So, there is equal concern both ways.

Anyway, I began to research diabetes and the overall effect of high glycemic foods on our health and made some serious changes in my diet. Out went sodas, Snickers bars, chocolate milk and breakfast cereal. In went 100-140 oz of water daily. My meals are typically lean meat and dark green vegetables (I love spinach

). I don't eat if I am not hungry, but when I am hungry I do eat. I find my hunger is more moderated.

Also, I am less hard on myself since I'm not so much counting anything just focusing on smarter decisions. Recently my daughter had a birthday and I did have some cake, the next night we went out to dinner and I had a burrito cancun

. But the next day I was back to being a good boy

. What I find is that my weight lose may slow, but it does return in a couple of days tops. By the end of the month I should drop below 200 lbs. which I have not seen for 17 years. My goal then is 180! According to the insurance charts my ideal is 155, but I think about as highly of those charts as I do the insurance companies themselves

Another step I will be taking this week is to begin regular fasting. It has been something I wanted to add to my walk with The Lord and have never done. He has been so faithful throughout this weightloss that I want to devote a day each week to fasting. My focus will be praise and lifting up lost family members and coworkers.

Jeff-- Congratulations, first on putting your primary focus on your health and second, hooray for the resulting weight loss--42 pounds is a lot of "excess baggage" to lose. I have had my most success when I made establishing healthy eating habits my number one goal. It was amazing that choosing to eat the best food (real, whole food with lots of nutrients) resulted in the excess pounds coming off. After years and years of yo-yo dieting, I simply made the decision to really take care of my body--for it's the only place I have to live. Again, thanks for sharing the good report!

That is difficult to do, because every plan should be tailored to an individual's own situation and personal likes and dislikes. However, there are general principles for planning a healthy eating lifestyle that one can use to create their own plan. I'm hesitant to get into it here. I feel like a new kid on the block who is hijacking this thread! I think it would be best to start a new thread that focuses on this particular subject. Lots of folks can help with ideas, not just me! --Jed

That's what this thread is all about. It's the "Diet Thread" where we share about different types of diets, how we are doing, what we are doing, when we lose, when we gain back, etc.

We encourgage each other and that is a GOOD thing. We may not always agree on what is best, but that's okay because we all have the same goal.

You could always PM someone if you would rather not talk about a particular topic on an open forum. The PM button is at the top of every person's post.

Granny: I am drinking my first large glass of water for the day (which is nothing new) and looking forward to having cabbage soup for breakfast (NOT). I didn't taste it when I made it so I'm not sure if I will like it or not, but I am determined to shed 10# this week. (Seriously, I am having fruit for breakfast)

I don't get much 'real' exercise unless you count chasing kids and a puppy around all day! I am going to start riding my bicycle again now that the weather has cooled off. I have bicycles here for the kids so they can ride with me.

Everyone: I could use some prayer this week. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak...

Sue-- Thanks for your response. I started the healthy eating habits thread not only for folks who want to lose weight, but for others who have little or no weight to lose! People can be thin, but not healthy, because they are not eating the nutrient-filled food the body needs. Ideal weight people are usually not interested in checking out a "dieting" thread, but may plug into one about improving the quality of their food choices.

Secondly, I wanted to focus on permanent lifestyle decisions to benefit one's health. Dieting tends to focus on temporary changes to get weight off, focusing on the quantity of calories vs. the quality. (Unfortunately, it tends to not keep it off.) Even though this thread is about some of the same issues, I felt the different emphasis warranted it own discussion. I'm sure some folks will want to put in their .02 on both threads! --Jed

Hey Lea! I'm sooo happy you're making a decision to get those pounds off! Sue and I are older & it comes slower~at least for me, but you seem really young, so it should be a snap! You will be so full of energy & happiness!

Lay off those Ramen thingies & concentrate on a good diet. I haven't seen Jed's thread yet on healthy eating habits as I just got back online-I got zapped last nite during the storm.

When I was raising my wee ones-I had 4, plus a miscarriage within a 5yr period, and I took in my 2 sisters to raise, plus my dear mama, so I just sort of neglected myself.

I never had anyone fuss at me if I ate one more biscuit, or what someone left on their plate. Then there was always that dab of 'skettie left(not enough to save, yeah right). A little taste here, a big piece there...so on & on piled the pounds.

I'd have folks say something like "you have such a pretty face", but not one said "man, look at the rest of ya!"

Not even my mister. He loved me no matter what, as I do him, but I wish he'd said something.

I agree, I've been saying this for a long time. Dieting is bad for your health. Learning to eat right as a way of life is for good health. Weight loss will naturally come with it.
