3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Who is she?
1. She cannot be secular government(s) because she is distinguished from "the kings of the earth" and she "sits upon" what symbolizes secular governments of the earth - "beast" as the seven heads of this beast are also representative of "kings".
2. She cannot be secular Rome or the secular Roman Empire which was destroyed and overthrown in 452 A.D. because she continues to exist into the very last "hour" of the earth when the ten kings WHICH DID NOT EXIST WHEN JOHN WROTE THIS BOOK and yet form the horns on the last head of the beast, are led by the anti-christ into battle against Christ as He comes from heaven:
12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
14 ¶ These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
However, the Biblical text does identify this woman very clearly:
1. She is MYSTICAL BABYLON or the RELIGION OF BABYLON - the MYSTERY RELIGION.
2. She is that city that was reigning over the kings of the earth when John wrote this book which was the seat of the Mystery Babylon Religion adopted by the Roman government.
3. She is the murderer of all the saints on the face of the earth including the apostles. Thus she precedes and exceeds the Roman Government and its empire. She is institutionalized false religion that has followed the way of Cain since the garden of Eden responsible for the death of the first prophet of God and will be responsible for the death of all the saints upon the earth.
4. She rides the beast and has committed fornication with all the kings of the earth. She is STATE RELIGION or institutionalized false religion that unites with the STATE and rules over secular governments.
5. She is MYSTERY BABYLON religion and even wears the same colors of the Mystery Babylon religion preisthood.
6. She is the institutionalized APOSTATE STATE CHURCH in competition with the institutionalized Bride (Rem. 19:6-10; 21-22:2). She is a Whore in contrast to the Bride. She is a worldly city in contrast to a heavenly city. She contains true people of God (Rev. 18:4) whereas, the Bride does not contain all true people of God (Rev. 19:8-9; 21:24-25; 22:2).
7. She is the Roman Catholic Church today which continues in Rome as the institutionalized STATE CHURCH and incorporates all false religion within its embrace.
