The testimony (scripture) is not greater than that of which it testifies about.

Feel free to quote me.
How do you know about the one it testifies about?
Would it be okay to believe in the great spirit in the sky? Would it be okay to offer the sacrifice of Cain to this great spirit?

Who is Jesus? Which Jesus?
What did he do?
Would we have the BIBLICAL JESUS without the bible?
Do you see the dilemma?
We know of the infinite, eternal value of the person and work of Jesus.
How do we know for sure?
Do we have a more sure word of prophecy?
No Dilemma. Jesus is who He is regardless of anything. Without Jesus, no person would be Saved. Countless people were saved before books of the New Testament were written, much less compiled into "The Bible".

How many could have been saved without Jesus?
Do you worship The Bible or Jesus Christ. The one you worship is the most important.

Were people saved prior to the New Testament being written?

Which Christ? Who is Christ?
What has He accomplished?
You made several statements about Him, wonderful statements...how do you know they are true and accurate?
The Gospel proclaims Christ. The Bible proclaims Christ. Can we rightly say news of a gift is better than the gift itself, or even on a par with it?

As much as I love the Bible as God’s word, it is not God; it is not the Holy Spirit; it is not a fourth member of the Godhead. We should be careful not to advocate Bibliolatry.

The question you must answer is, Where does the Bible claim it is a greater gift than God’s Son?

God so loved the world that He gave us His only book....no...His only Son.

We can play the chicken and egg game - Without Christ what good would Scripture be?

But it is fruitless because Scripture has given us the answer.

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. Colossians 1:15-2

Without Jesus death, it would not matter what you did.

Why does anyone need to worship Him?

This doesn't answer to the Op. How would you know the facts contained and written in Colossians without the scripture?

That is up to God. Maybe you would have told me. Maybe God would have told me in a dream (, if, hypothetically God chose not to give us Scripture).

I suspect were God not to have given us Scripture we would have prophets and miracles attesting to the validity of their message.

But it is all hypothetical.

I know God's Son is the greatest gift because He has the first place in everything.

Do you believe Scripture is greater than God?

I'd say the greatest gift given to humanity is God giving of Himself in the person of Jesus Christ.

The reason I believe this is that the Scripture is a testimony of this Gift (the Bible points to the Son, is about the Son, and what the Son has done).

As Spurgeon would say, the wrapping, while important, is not more important than the gift. We cannot know God except through Christ. We can do without Scripture if we must, and rely on oral tradition as so many have throughout the ages. I suspect theology would greatly suffer, but God's Word will nonetheless not come back empty. God saves, not Scripture.

The gospel message is never more important than the gospel itself, the good news is not more important than the event or Person of whom that news speaks.
And you claim not to have studied Karl Barth that much, as that was him you just gave!

Sorry but all of those questions do not change the fact that the testimony cannot be greater than that of which it testifies of.

I asked you questions first.
Is The Bible God?
Is anything more important than God?
The created thing more important than The Creator.

I believe that if there were no Scripture then God would have chosen another means to communicate the gospel.

Scripture is a means to know God better, but God could have communicated the gospel in a Bible tract or oral tradition.

Scripture is not greater than God.

By dreams and vision and voice, as in the OT!

If there were no Scripture, I think so. Or prophets, signs and wonders.

I don't know, Yeshua1. Because we do have Scripture.

But Scripture is not greater than God and knowing about God is not greater than knowing God.

Proverbs 30:4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?
