The Spirit's Role in Salvation !

The Spirit's Role in Salvation of those for whom Christ died for ! All for whom He died and reconciled to God even while they were being enemies

Rom 5:10

10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

The Promise to them, being thus reconciled by His death, is that they shall be saved by His Life !

They shall be saved out of being God's Enemies, out of a experimental Lost condition, by Regeneration which is the Spirit's Role and Saving application to the one for whom Christ died Titus 3:5

5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

This is a must saving if indeed Jesus Christ is Our Saviour ! Those He died for , if Christ is their Saviour, must, no question about it, but they must be Saved by the washing of Regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost through their Saviour or He was not our Saviour plain and simple !

After the Son has accomplished His Saving Death of Redemption, the Father through the Son sends forth the Holy Spirit to apply the Salvation benefits of Christ's redeeming death Gal 4:4-6

4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

This describes the Application of Redemption, sending forth the spirit into their Hearts !

This was Promised long ago by the Prophets Ezekiel 36:26,27

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

This Promise to put His Spirit within them is fulfilled in Gal 4:6

6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

Understand something, without His Saving Work or Role , the Saving Death of Christ is aborted is nullified, unfruitful, lacking in producing Saving Effects to the Glory of the Father.

Basically the Redemptive Death of Christ, does a work for us and in us, by the Saving Work of the New Birth, or its also called the Sanctification of the Spirit 2 Thess 2:13 or He being sent into Our Hearts Gal 4:6, if not for this, Christ's Redemptive Death is a complete Failure and flop !

The Spirit's Role in Salvation ! 2

The Spirit had a role in the Spiritual Application of the Benefits of Christ's death, and that is why Jesus said to His disciples Jn 16:7

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

This is the same sending as in Gal 4:6

6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

The Spirit's role was given Him in the Council of the Everlasting Covenant, He was to work in those for whom Christ shed His Blood for Heb 13:20-21

20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Vs 21 here is basically giving the Outcome of the New Birth, the Saving described in Titus 3:5, its the result of having the Spirit sent into our Hearts through Jesus Christ .

The Redeemed sinner remains dead in sin Eph 2:5 and needs to be quickened to Life or given a Spiritual Resurrection or Renewing, and this is done by the Spirit through the Son Jn 5:21

21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.

Jn 6:63

63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

This is connected with an impartation of Life, a supernatural , miraculous Work of the Spirit.

Its liken to the Resurrection of Lazarus from the dead, out of his grave, and before the redeemed sinner can believe in Christ, call upon His Name, or put Faith in Him, He must first be made Spiritually alive, quickened to Call upon His Name, for David wrote Ps 80:18

18 So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.

And this comes in the economy of Salvation following the Spirit's quickening Role , for then the sinner is set free from satans Gospel Blinding power 2 Cor 4:3-4

3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not,
lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

The reigning power of satan is primarily responsible for Unbelief, But the Spirit, for Christ's sake saves those He died for from this Power and an entrance is made for the Light of the Gospel to shine in Our Hearts ! Thank God for the Spirit's Role in Salvation through Christ ! 4

Believing is an Evidence of Spirits indwelling !

1 Jn 5:10

He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

That witness being the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth by New Birth; Hence that one who is of the Truth as Per the Saviour Jn 18:37

37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

Such a one can now bear witness to the Truth revealed to them by the Word and Spirit, The Truth of God in the Gospel Eph 1:13

13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

We must be of the Truth Jn 18:37 to hear [spiritually] the Word of Truth, and so Hearing bears witness that we have been given Eternal Life as a Gift of the Spirit, which confirms Jesus Testimony here Jn 5:24

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

The Hearing and Believing here is evidence of one possessing Eternal Life [New Birth], otherwise in the flesh we cannot Hear God's Word, or Christ's Voice.

Its only after the Spirit in New Birth bearing witness with Our Human Spirit, that we are the Children of God, that we can Spiritually receive the Truth in the Gospel, to Spiritually discern it and mentally regard it !

Because the Carnal Mind without the Spirit is at enmity with God Rom 8:7

7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Jn 16:7

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

The word expedient also conveys the meaning of [appropriate for a purpose]. The Lord Jesus Christ is giving His disciples [The Church] to know the importance of the need of the comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, to come and to assist in their commission of evangelism The Holy Spirit's Role in Sanctification, not only would He aid them, but He is needed for the gathering in of the rest of the Church, the people Christ died for.

The Holy Spirit was responsible to apply the saving benefits to all Christ died for, the Church, His Body Bible Study: What is the New Covenant?. He came to regenerate all of God's elect as it was according to The Everlasting Covenant of which Christ is the Surety.

Isa 59:21

As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever. The coming of the Spirit to regenerate is a covenant promise [Ezk 36:26-27] and blood purchased Jesus' Blood: Life-saving Prayers,

He works by means of the Father and the Son [Jn 14:26], as this is realized we give Glory To God Triune for the Salvation of a sinner, and Thank Them for the saving Operations of the Spirit Spiritual Renewal: Confession Prayers. The Holy Spirit works from the Father's decree 2 Thess 2:13 13But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth Salvation & Eternal Life Prayers: And the Son's redemption Gal 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. Rom 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father Bible Basics: What is God's Grace?. And so He is sent to make effective what was counseled in the Everlasting Covenant for the experimental salvation of God's people that Christ died for. To all the Father elected, all whom Christ died, the Spirit is given to them as the Spirit of promise The Roman Road to Salvation. The Holy Spirit is the bond of union between the elect members and Christ their Head, He unites us to Christ experimentally because we have the Same Spirit He has, that is the Holy Spirit in the Head is in the members, so He works like effects for the same, if He quickens the Head as here: Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 1 Pet 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: He will also quicken the Members Mercy vs. Grace: Understanding the Difference.. Thats why each dead spiritually elect or chosen in Christ Eph 1:4 will be quickened while dead in trespasses and sins Eph 2:1,4,5 1And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 4But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved ) This is a work of the Spirit in Salvation, why it was expedient that Christ go away that He may come and begin His Saving, quickening Ministry, at this time He would mostly work in behalf of the apostles to prepare the elect to receive their word.

Amen! Your careful handling of Scripture around the Comforter's role in applying Christ's redemptive work to God's elect is truly edifying.

I'm particularly blessed by your emphasis on the covenant nature of the Spirit's work. The Spirit indeed applies what the Father decreed and what the Son purchased on Calvary.

Your point about Christ's departure being "expedient" reminds us of God's perfect timing and wisdom. Though the disciples couldn't understand it then, the Lord knew the greater blessing that awaited them through the Spirit's coming. This same Spirit continues His work today in regenerating dead sinners according to God's eternal purpose.

Your reference to Ephesians 2:1,4,5 powerfully reminds us that we were truly "dead in trespasses and sins" - not merely sick or weakened. Only the quickening power of the Holy Spirit could bring spiritual life to our dead souls.

May the Lord continue to bless your study and sharing of these precious truths. I'm grateful for brothers like you who faithfully proclaim the doctrines of grace in our Baptist fellowship.

Van wrote: If the Comforter (Holy Spirit) did not come until after Christ ascended, and the Comforter causes regeneration, or to be made alive, how did the thief on the cross enter Paradise on the day Christ died?

All three members of the Trinity function as the Comforter.

2 Cor 1:3,4 Blessed be the God & Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies & God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

John 14:16,17And I will pray the Father & He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you & will be in you.

Jesus is the Comforter & the Father will give ANOTHER Comforter (of the same kind). The other Comforter is the Spirit of truth, the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners...

Job 19:23-27 Oh that my words were written! Oh that they were inscribed in a book! Oh that with an iron pen and lead they were engraved in the rock forever! For I know that my Redeemer lives & at the last he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself & my eyes shall behold & not another. My heart faints within me!

Luke 7:47-49 Therefore I tell you, her sins & they are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” But those at the table began to say to themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”…

Luke 23: 32-43 Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.” The soldiers also came up & mocked him. There was a written notice above him, which read: this is the king of the Jews.

39One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” 40But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” 42Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. ” 43Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

1 Samuel 10:6 Then the Spirit of the LORD will rush upon you & you will prophesy with them & you will be transformed into a different person.

Psalm 51:10,11 Create in me a clean heart, O God & renew a right spirit within me. 11Cast me not away from Your presence; take not Your Holy Spirit from me. 12Restore to me the joy of Your salvation & sustain me with a willing spirit.

Acts 4:25: “You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David...
Mt 23:43: “He asked them, “How is it then that David, inspired by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord?’”

Numbers 11:17 "Then I will come down & talk with you there. I will take of the Spirit that is upon you and will put the same upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you may not bear it yourself alone."

Numbers 27:18 "And the Lord said to Moses: “Take Joshua the son of Nun with you, a man in whom is the Spirit & lay your hand on him;"
Neh 9:20 "You also gave Your good Spirit to instruct them & did not withhold Your manna from their mouth & gave them water for their thirst."

Galatians 2:16 We know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ & not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.

Gal 3:7-9 Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. 8And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.” 9So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

Gal 3:13,14 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.

Gal 3:22 But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

Hebrews 11:1,6,7 Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. 2Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists & that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. By his faith Noah condemned the rest of the world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith.

Heb 11:9,10,13 And even when he reached the land God promised him, he lived there by faith—for he was like a foreigner, living in tents. And so did Isaac & Jacob, who inherited the same promise. 10Abraham was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God...All these people died in faith, without having received the things they were promised. However, they saw them & welcomed them from afar. And they acknowledged that they were strangers & exiles on the earth.

Luke 12:32 Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom.

2 Tim 4:18 And the Lord will rescue me from every evil action & bring me safely into His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever & ever. Amen.

Isaiah 63:1,9 Who is this in royal robes, marching in his great strength? “It is I, the LORD, announcing your salvation! It is I, the LORD, who has the power to save!” In all their suffering he also suffered & he personally rescued them. In his love & mercy he redeemed them.

Genesis 49:10 The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come & the obedience of the nations shall be his.

Haggai 2:5 This is the promise I made to you when you came out of Egypt. And My Spirit remains among you; do not be afraid.”

1 Samuel 16:13 So Samuel took the horn of oil & anointed him in the presence of his brothers & the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day forward.

Judges 3:10 And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him & he judged Israel...
Judges 6:34 But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon & he blew a trumpet...
Judges 11:29 Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah...
Judges 13:24, 25 And the woman bore a son & called his name Samson. And the young man grew & the Lord blessed him.And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah & Eshtaol.

Judges 14:6,19; 15:4 And the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon him & he tore the lion apart with his bare hands as one would tear a young goat...Then the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him...And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him.

Heb 11:32,33 And what more shall I say? Time will not allow me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel & the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice & gained what was promised.

1 Kings 18:12 I do not know where the Spirit of the LORD may carry you off when I leave you. Then when I go and tell Ahab and he does not find you, he will kill me. But I, your servant, have feared the LORD from my youth.

2 Kings 2:16 “Look now,” they said to Elisha, “We your servants have fifty valiant men. Please let them go & search for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the LORD has taken him up and put him on one of the mountains or in one of the valleys.” “Do not send them,” Elisha replied.

The holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed !

Eph 4:30

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

One of the main purposes of a seal is to mark ownership, legal right of possession; proprietorship.

Now this is in line with the Truth of Redemption, for in Redemption all for whom Christ died have been purchased with a price, and are His purchased possession, and so by that He sends the Seal of the New Birth, Heart Circumcision, because without the Spirit, there is no evidence that we are His own possession Rom 8:9

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

He did not purchase you by His Blood !

2 Cor 1:22

22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

Listen, If Christ died and redeemed us, then to prove that He did, to confirm our being purchased, He seals us with His Spirit in our Hearts by New Birth, for the Redeemed have the Spirit sent into their Hearts Gal 4:4-6

That word redeem in Vs 5 the greek word exagorazō means to:

II.to buy up, to buy up for one's self, for one's use

Paul writes in 1 Cor 6:20

20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

That price is not our believing, our repentance, or anything we did, but it was the Precious blood of Christ, AND THATS IT !

That alone made everyone He died for His Purchased Possession, and that entitled them to be sealed by the Spirit as a mark of His Owner Ship redemptively by His Blood !

The Only way a man or women does not receive this Sealing of the Spirit is because they were none of His Rom 8:9

9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Because the Spirit is proof of ownership ! 4

Through Sanctification of the Spirit !

2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

1 Pet 1:2

2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

The Sanctification of the Spirit, this Spiritual Blessing as Per Eph 1:3

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

It is the direct result and effect of Christ's redeeming / atoning Death or Blood, meaning all for whom He died, shed His Blood, MUST be Sanctified or Set Apart by the Spirit, in order to partake of the Spiritual Benefits of His Death, which is a bequeathal of Spiritual blessings ; for without this work of the Spirit, Christ's redemptive death would have been unfruitful to God, which would be contrary to its purpose by God Jn 12:24

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

Without it the beneficiaries would have remained in Unbelief, so by it, the Sanctification of the Spirit, results the belief of the Truth 2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

The word belief here interestingly enough is the Greek noun Pistis and means:

conviction of the truth of anything, belief; in the NT of a conviction or belief respecting man's relationship to God and divine things, generally with the included idea of trust and holy fervour born of faith and joined with it relating to God

Its Translated Faith 239 times in the NT

It also results in obedience 1 Pet 1:2

2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

Hence obedience and Faith in this are the same, and so we have such biblical expressions as Rom 16:26

But now is made manifest , and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

Now on the Eve of His Death, Christ made a request of the Father to those He was about to die for Jn 17:17

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

And lest we attempt to confine this requested blessing to only His then disciples Vs 20 states otherwise :

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 4

The request of Christ for the sanctification of those He was about to die for, stated as V19

19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

This request was according to the will of God, and so this promise applied to the Man Jesus Christ more so than to any other Man in the flesh 1 Jn 5:14-15

14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Also 1 Jn 3:22

22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

Yes, while in the flesh, The Lord most certainly kept the Commandments of God, and always did that which pleased His Father Jn 8:29

And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

Hence upon completion of His Cross Work, His Work of Redemption, and His ascension to the Right Hand of God, a rewar was given Him in answer to His petition, notice Acts 2:33

33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

He received of the Father, the Promise of the Holy Ghost or Spirit, and with that He commissions the Spirit to apply His Saving benefits upon those He died, to Sanctify them unto belief of the Truth as Per 2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

And with that the petition has been granted by the Father of this request Jn 17:17

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Not only was the request for His Immediate disciples, but for all who shall believe on Him through their word of testimony, to include the scriptures Jn 17:19-20

19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

Now understand something, if anyone for whom Christ sanctified Himself for Vs 19, meaning His Death, if anyone of them don't come to Faith, Belief of the Truth by the Sanctifying Work of the Spirit, then His Prayer request was denied by the Father !

Also, If not for the Sovereign Work of the Spirit, through the Merits of Christ's Redemptive Obedience unto Death, none of those for whom Christ died could have believed in Him through the Gospel, the Word of Truth. We believe in the Everlasting Covenant established before time began, the Holy Ghost concurred in the Divine Purpose, to Sanctify all of the Election of Grace, those whom the Father chose in Christ, and the same being the objects of Christ's Redeeming Blood, His Word in the Covenant, was to bring all the Chosen Heirs unto Belief of the Truth, which is another way of saying, Faith in Christ 2 Thess 2:13; Jn 6:29

29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

That's the Work of God, but specifically God the Sanctifying Spirit !4

All for whom Christ died are Justified legally by His Meritorious Blood, however it is accompanied in a matter of time, a Justification by the Spirit of God, which Justification equates to Sanctification of the Spirit 1 Cor 6:11

11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Justification in the Name of the Lord Jesus [His Death/ Blood] brings Justification by the Spirit of God !

Now the Holy Spirit must Sanctify/ Justify experimentally all those Christ's Death / Blood Sanctified/ Justified Legally as Per Heb 10:10

10 By the which will we are sanctified/made Holy/ Righteous through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Because what His [Christ's] Sanctification entails , they must be Sanctified internally, which the Spirit performs in them with the New Birth ! 5

Its needed and why !

Jn 16:7

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

The Spirits Work of Sanctification is just as significant and necessary for Salvation 2 Thess 2:13 as the Death of Christ is ! Someone may say that's overstating it , for certainly Christ's Blood is more Essential and important in Salvation than the Work of the Spirit ; after all the Spirit never died for anyone's sins ; However the very reason why His Sanctifying Saving Work is so essential and important, its because of the Merits and transcendency of His Death, that it should produce Life Giving Effects Jn 12:24

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

It, His dying, yields a harvest of new lives, it yields the harvest of wheat. Matt 13:30

Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

Jesus being analogous to a Corn of Wheat in Vs 24, dies and produces more corns of wheat, that's the effects of His Death, and why the Spirit is Necessary to produce that effect. Without the Work of the Spirit, His Sanctifying Work unto belief of the Truth 2 Thess 2:13, the Meritorious Death of Christ gives no Life to confirm and validate the supreme Merits of His Death, Its Legal Merits; So its because Christ's Death is so Meritorious in and of itself, its that which makes the Spirit's Work indispensable !

1 Pet 1:2

2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
John 17:17, . . . Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

So, then, @ Brightfame52, how does the fully sanctified position of the believer spiritually in Christ become, more and more, a fact in their daily condition, in the manner of their every day living? How, exactly, is the Christian caught in an addiction to, say, food, or porn, or gambling, liberated by the Holy Spirit from their addiction into the sanctified, addiction-free life they ought to be living as a "temple" of the Holy Spirit? I've known born-again believers who've been born-again for decades who have little to no concrete experience of the power and transformation that arises from the life and work of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Why is that, do you think? And how do these sort of believers change?

My subject is about the Holy Spirits role in Salvation, thats what I studied for

Because of the depravity or spiritual death of man !

Even though false religion refuses to bow down to divine revelation that man in the flesh cannot come / believe on Christ, yet its true anyway, and that's why God's Elect must be drawn to Christ by the Father, which drawing is by the Spirit of God !

John 6:44

44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Folks, this statement " no man can come to me " MEANS Believe on Him, come to Him in Faith ! No man can do that, that demolishes the false teaching of freewill right there !

Now the word draw here is a strong word, because it denotes God's Power, the Power of the Holy Spirit, its the greek word helkō and means:

I.
to draw, drag off

II.
metaph., to draw by inward power, lead, impel

Jesus means this metaph use, to draw by inward power or lead or impel. Remember Jesus said of His Sheep that He leads them out Jn 10:1-4

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

It can be said " He fetches them out " or that He brings them out, the point being, its done by Him, His Power ! This is the ideal of Jn 6:44 that they are drawn, and its the Power of the Spirit to be exact.

God's Spirit and His Work is related to Power for instance here Zech 4:6

6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

Now the context of this verse is about the building of the Temple of God, and that it was going to be accomplished by God's Spirit ! And so it is with the Spiritual Temple of God, the Church 1 Cor 3:16

16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Paul is speaking of the Body of Christ here See 1 Cor 12 !

Also Eph 2:21-22

21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

2 Cor 6:16

16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

This Temple comprised of Believers was made by the Power and Might of the Spirit, by His Making them Alive by Regeneration, Spiritual quickening, making dead stones into Living Stones 1 Pet 2:5

5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house [Temple], an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

And so hecnce the drawing is by the Power and Might of the Spirit 1 Thess 1:5

5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

And so it becomes an inward compelling or impelling by the Spirit !
