The Just shall live by Faith !

The Promise that the Just shall live by Faith is a Promise that everyone Christ died for shall live by Faith.

Let me explain why ! Scripture says in Rom 5:19

19For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

This obedience of one, I understand it, is Christ's Obedience unto Death, even the Death of the Cross ! Phil 2:8

8And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Now, by this, Christ's obedience unto Death, many shall be made Righteous !

Folks when scripture says something shall be done, it is a Divine Promise of God, so, we can count on it that all whom Christ represented when He died shall be made Righteous.

Now, the word Righteous here is the greek word dikaios and is translated in the NT as the word Just no less than 33 times.

So, Rom 5:19 can also read without violating grammar like this

Rom 5:19

And so the Promise reads as thus: Hab 2:4

Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

Gal 3:11

Again, the word shall is used to denote a Promise of God !

So, all those Christ died for, and by His Death of obedience made Just, all such made, shall live by Faith !

Simply said, Christ's Obedient Death is the cause of one living by Faith ! So now we should better understand what the writer of Hebrews wrote here Heb 12:2

2Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The contextual meaning of the phrase "the just shall live by faith" is in reference to the gospel and therefore receiving the revelation of righteousness found in the gospel by faith.

Rom. 1:16 ¶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

The phrase "from (Gr. ek) faith to [Gr. eis] faith restricts reception of that revelation of righteousness in the gospel to faith alone as the first prepositon "ek" ["from"] makes faith the source out of which it is received and the second preposition "eis" ["to"] terminates the limits of reception of that revelation upon faith. Hence, this gospel revelation of righteousness of Jesus Christ is confined to faith alone.

Last, the phrase, "as it is written" demands that Paul is quoting this Old Testament passage to reinforce the fact that the gospel revelation of righteousness is restricted to faith alone and thus the "just" meanng those who are "JUSTIFIED" or those who obtain LIFE, that is LEGAL LIFE, do so by faith alone. Hence, this phrase has nothing to do with justification before the world began nor living by faith or the Christian life, but it has to do with justification by faith in the gospel which obtains LEGAL and POSITIONAL eternal life. The context is life promised by the gospel through faith in the righteosness of Jesus Christ which is the righteousness revealed "THEREIN" or in the Gospel Paul preached (vv. 15-17). The gospel that called upon the hearer to "believe" the gospel.


The same is true where Paul quotes this same phrase again in Galatians 3:10-12:

Gal. 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.

Again, note the context in which this explanatory phrase is found. It is found in the context of “THE LAW” and why justification is not by the Law rather by faith. Note verse 12 that proves this is a contrast between justification by law keeping versus by faith. Again, it is faith in the gospel that introduces this whole context (Gal. 3:6-8) not justification before the world began.
Justification under the law requires CONTINUOUS NON-STOP DOING OF ALL COMMANDMENTS found in the “book of the Law” – v. 10

In the Sight of God no man can be justified by the works of the law because no man can obtain eternal life under law because that requires not stop doing of every command without failure (v. 12b). Justification is by faith and the law is not “of faith” – (v. 12a).

It is in this context of justification by works versus by faith in the gospel that the phrase “the just shall live by faith” occurs as the concluding explanatory contrast to justification by the works to the law. Again, it means “the JUSTIFIED” are the ones who “LIVE” or obtain LEGAL POSITIONAL eternal life rather than LEGAL POSITION CONDEMNATION by the law and they obtain JUSTIFIED LIFE by or through faith in the gospel as did Abraham (vv. 6-8).

Look at verse 11 and it should be read and understood as follows"


11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The justified shall live by faith.

It is contextually a contrast between justification by doing the works commanded in the entire book of the Law or simply believing in the gospel message that Jesus provided all the righteousnes needed to be saved or justification by faith in the gospel. Before God who are "the just" or justified? Before God who are those who whom the Law declares to have eternal life? They are those who are justified "by faith" in the righteousness provided by, declared by the gospel, and revealed in the gospel to be found in Jesus Christ alone.

What a Joke! You had to jerk the text out of its context and apply it to texts outside its context in order to establish your so-called truth! That is called EISGESIS!

Look at the words that begin verse 17 "for therein" and ask yourself what is he referring to? "Therein" what? Read my previous post and this also. Abraham believed God because God called him. Abraham was a sheep of God. God imputed the righteousness of God by the faith that would be manifested when the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world became obedient unto death even the death of the cross.
