They love the "r" word. Disagree and you are a racist. Point out the descrepancy of their argument and you are a racist. I guess I'm a a racist then.
No need to restate it...you already have self-identified.

Racism unfortunately is not a black and white issue as is quite evident here. It is quite obvious a white and white issue also or a black and black issue. There is not a race alive that does not has racism with in its own ranks.

Sad thing is no one can nor will ever get along untill we get to heaven. That is the only thing we have to look forward too. It will never happen here on this forum nor in the world which we habitate.

MP pointed out things he's seen in his lifetime--all of them "in the long ago past" (ha!! makes me sound younger than you and I bet I'm not!!). And webdog, I am thankful for you that you have NOT seen these things in your lifetime. And I absolutely understand why YOU don't want to have to pay the price for things you don't do (hold back an entire generation of black Americans). I don't do those things either, and I don't like being lumped into that ugly "racist whitey" category that Rev. Wright would probably throw me in because he IS a racist black man (or at least the comments he's made that have been publicized are racist comments).

BUT, I'll point out in this thread what I've said in others on this subject--racism IS alive and well and living in America NOW. Be glad if you don't see it. But I DO see it--daily.
I have been TOLD by several people that they will not vote for Barack Obama BECAUSE HE'S A BLACK MAN. Wouldn't matter WHAT qualifications he had--he's black and that's all that matters to them.
I have been instructed by a supervisor to NOT send black sales people to him because he WILL NOT shake their hands and he WILL NOT buy from them.
I know people who believe that black people are not much better than animals; that their morals --regardless of whether they are professing Christians--are suspect in ALL cases. They assume that they have no control over their physical urges.

I am not proud that I know people who believe this. But I can't change THEIR attitudes and beliefs any more than Obama can change Rev. Wright's. My point is that racism exists right now. This sad fact STILL permeates society. It is a direct descendant of slavery--some white people still believe that they are superior to ALL black people. I know these people, it's not just a "liberal mindset" and talking points. I am far from being a liberal, politically or socially. I don't think the answer is to turn to reverse racism and punish folks like you and me who never owned a slave (I come from a long line of poor, poor white folks and Cherokee Indian heritage). I agree that everyone should take responsibility for their own lives...I also know that if all you've ever known or seen in your lifetime is that you are somehow a second-class human being, then you don't think yourself capable of controlling your own life.

I don't know what the solutions are, but I KNOW the solutions to America's racial woes won't come if everyone doesn't see that there IS a problem. And I believe that the Christian community should lead the way in helping face the situation and resolve the problem. :saint:

Sure racism is alive and well. Whitse folks are prejudice against black, blacks are prejudice against whites. hispanics are prejudice against others etc. There is no group more racist than the other. What problem is that "civil rights" groups want to end white racism while working to allow other ethinicities racism remain. Well guess what? They will lose. This battle has become a political tool and as a result lacks moral authority and clarity.

So are you saying you are wanting to keep your "white racism"? And where do you get this junk from? Why are you against civil rights, and what civil rights groups want to let people be racists? Specific evidence please.

As for the inane comment about the NBA and the NFL, not very many people, black or white, get the opportunity to play in those leagues.

You mention this comment of mine as if I meant it as a racist remark. Are going to try to tell me that my eyes arent seeing what they are seein? As I was watching the NCAA I saw 10 men on the court and two were white. That is a good thing. Why? Because black men are better at basketball than white men, generally speaking, and the college wants to have a winning team. There are many reasons for this which is not important to go into now. There is no affirmative action program in professional sports because if there were they would have to hire an equal amount of whites and the quality of play would decrease.

I am saying don't present pro sports as an answer to institutionalized racism.

I will note that several comments always come up when the race issue comes up, and at least a couple have turned up here. Your's about affirmative action and the NBA is one. Others include:
  • "Why is there Black Entertainment Television (or UNCF, or NAACP, etc.), when if I wanted to have White Entertainment Television (or UWCF, or NAAWP, etc.) I'd be called a racist."
  • "People are happier staying with "their own kind".
  • "They ain't slaves now"
  • "Some of my best friends are black" (yeah, right)
These types of statements appear racist, and at best, demonstrate ignorance. Personally, I'd rather not be either a racist OR ignorant.

Those statements do not imply racism whatsoever...so give it up already. They only appear racist to bleeding heart liberals.

Oh yeah, I never doubted you would put them up. I still vehemently disagree that we need to ruin our nation with a graduate from the School of Hate Whitey in order to make up for this. Especially since I've always been against slavery.

So you can attack and call people "bleeding heart liberals, but if you feel you are being duly noted, it's a personal attack? Get real. I said they appear to not be racist to a racist. If you feel that is attacking you, then you must be exactly that by your own words, not mine.

A liberal is a political position...a racist is slander, and not to be taken lightly. I can care less if you call me a right winger or conservative... do NOT call me a racist!!

Then quit acting like one. Those comments I listed are so commonly used by racists that they are themselves, stereotypical. And you see; nothing wrong with them. I despise racism, and will call it out when it rears its ugly head.

Liberal is a political position. Bleeding Heart Liberal is a slander too.

You can call it whatever you wish, but you are dead wrong. Questioning why some segregation is allowed does not make one a racist. Was MLK a racist for questioning the use of segregation?

That is not why I called you out, and you know it.
