Education isn't as relevant as you think in the 19th century. Most of the geology and biostratigraphy discoveries were from Christian men who did not have formal university training in those fields of study because they were creating them.

Biostratigraphy is most interesting because it documents fossil distribution showing evolution (though they didn't call it that) as well as geographic era layers across the globe used by oil & gas drillers. So Christians were the ones that made the great discoveries disproving a global flood as well as evolution of species over time.

Darwin didn't discover evolution. He came up with the theory of HOW it happens.

As far a Darwin, in a letter to Joseph Hooker three years later he wrote this.

"But I have long regretted that I truckled to public opinion and used the Pentateuchal term of creation, by which I really meant “appeared” by some wholly unknown process. It is mere rubbish thinking, at present, of the origin of life; one might as well think of the origin of matter."

As far as there being no way for new information. That is false.

Sedimentologists study major floods. In every major flood they find course-grained deposits of sand, gravel and boulders from the fast water stage a flood. Once the flood recedes, it only leaves one kind of deposit.. a single layer of mud.

This layering should be found across the globe in the same layer if there was a global flood. It does not exist. The Grand Canyon is the perfect place to observe this. You can see layers upon layers of shale, sandstone alternating. Not seen are the layering of a single huge flood encompassing the canyon. Instead there are hundreds of small floods.

Another example showing a global flood never happened is in the road cuts just outside the Answers in Genesis creation museum. This one is my favorite, because it is right under their nose.

Visible from the road there are coral preserved in life position sticking out of the cuts that were buried. Above them, more coral and burying. Then more coral. This shows instead of a catastrophic flood, coral lived and was buried in a shallow seafloor. More coral grew on top of that layer and then was eventually buried, a process repeating over and over. It is quite a joke amongst geologists that exposed evidence is right near this "museum".
