I remember back in the day, preachers saying that Credit cards could be the mark of the Beast

Mark of the Beast what a bunch of baloney... Let me inform the OP of something that happened recently... A distant friend in Washington State was out with his wife who had early stage dementia... They were going out for a walk with their dog and it was raining, so he stepped inside his house to grab an umbrella and when he returned five minutes later his wife and the dog were gone... There was a river about a quarter mile from their house and they searched and searched all the surrounding area... They never found her or the dog

I don't know what others on here think but this technology could be very beneficial to us all... A common error made by many is reducing some Scriptures from literal to "figurative/symbolic" status, which is tampering with God's word by adding or subtracting from its TRUE meaning.

This is speaking of the antichrist/beast. We see he will rule the world.
Rev. 13:16 And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, 17 and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name.
This is speaking of the beast from the earth, the false prophet, the antichrist's deputy. Evidently, this mark will be some sorta microchip, coded so it cannot be duplicated, with the antichrist's name or number.
Before the "beasts" come to power, this tech will be hyped as" "Never worry about losing your bank card or having it stolen again! It's theft-proof & loss-proof, being coded to YOUR DNA & other physical chemistry present only in a living body, so no one can kill you to use your chip! IT'S COMPLETELY FOOL-PROOF!"" Thus, it'll be widely-accepted before the beast makes it compulsory.
Right now, there's still Christian resistence to even this limited use of implants by one company, so I believe the rapture will occur before this tech is fully-implemented worldwide.

Sorry, my bad. I was using the NASB which seems to indicate those with the mark of the Beast are those who worship the Beast (14:9 speaks of those who worship the Beast and receive his mark...I never considered these could also be separate groups...and I still think that a mistaken view)
When I go down to the grocery store they expect something with a physical property from me (cash, credit card, food stamps, etc.) in order to finalize me taking something from them. Buying and selling requires some kind of trade off that is finalized with some kind of physical manifestation. A common sense interpretation of this passage demands that some kind of physical manifestation is associated with the physical hand and/or forehead that acts as a finalization of this transaction.
