The Mental Illness/Sin Threads

Can someone bring me up to speed on FAL's contentions? Is FAL saying that being mentally ill is a sin? Taking medication to control the illness is a sin? What's the deal?

I've not been reading the threads and since there are so many of them I would like a Reader's Digest condensed version.

He has said (as does Steadfast Fred and his wife Fred's Wife) that there is no such thing as "mental illness" but instead, what we call mental illness is in reality sin. Drugs do not work because all they do is to bury the sin and instead, we should repent of our sin and God and our "mental illness" will go away.

Basicall, FAL believes any illness that affects the mind/brain is of sin. This includes Bi-polar, ADD, ADHD, OCD, and anything else he doesn't believe to be a physical illness. In giving his opinion, he has taken on the role of judge, jury, doctor, and playground bully to try to convict people and sway them to his opinion. He's picking splinters from other people while ignoring the monster tree strapped to his back. That's it in a nutshell.

I really think if we all ignore him, he will get tired of shouting to an absent audience, or he will FINALLY, HOPEFULLY get banned from the board as a troll.

We can only hope. I don't understand why the moderators allow him to continue this. Basically what he's doing is spamming the board.

Actually, he is doing the board good.

He is allowing discussion on a topic that is demonstrating how some in the assembly bring hurt by their own actions toward those with mental difficulties.

This is allowing a general awareness of and hopefully some who will become more engaged in helps and protection of those who are in need and the general assembly has ignored even shunned.

That the disagreement continues may not be an evil, and may not for it also allows for personal accountability in how the respondents post. It gives a gut check (so to speak) to the posters.

There is no such thing as mental illness and instead it is sin that is causing the symptoms. The only solution for this sin is confession and forsaking. This is exactly what he has stated.

The way I see what he is saying is the illness is sin. That the drugs only cover up the symptoms and if sin is confessed and repented of then the syptoms will go away without drugs.

So.....according to FAL sin is causing symptoms of mental illness, but mental illness does not exist.

How does one confess and forsake post traumatic stress disorder? Or anxiety syndrome?

Soesn't mean he is correct with his views. But then none of are totally correct on our views. God gave us all volition so we can disagree and still be in Christ.

You are correct. I never said he was correct in his views. But, he presents his views (while some are radical and we don't like them) in an above the board way and (generally) doesn't take cheap shots at people. Most of the cheap shots people think he is taking are just his views and his views rubs a particular person the wrong way.

A lot them don't like my views either so no big deal. Can't take any of it personally, but a lot of folks wear their feelings on their shoulder and get down right offended and offensive or is it defensive? :laugh:

You got that right. What a lot of people need to realize is that this is an internet forum. It's not going to affect your life one way or another.

It really gets bad in the non-debate forums like education. They put schools down they know nothing about and say there isn't enough rigor. Yet they have never taken a course from that school to know what type rigor it takes.

Questioning a person's salvation, accusations of following/creating a false religion, baiting/goading, and personal insults are a little more than rubbing a person the wrong way. They are not legitimate debating tactics and are unchristianlike behaviours.
