Hello,

A goose is a fine pet for one, but they seldom attach to more than one. I could call mine from bedroom window late at night and she would respond. Anyone else call her and nothing,,not even a peep.

She used to catch wife and daughters coming into house and give them a love nip on the other ends. They couldn't wait for her demise. The goose would follow me all over the garden and even chase after the garden tractor when I was mowing the turf. If I had the wagon in tow, she would hop in and take a ride.

BroJim~that sounds so much like my "Joe"...I guess it was a he. Never laid an egg, so just tho't he was a boy goose.

When we'd come home, he'd start hollering something that sounded just like "my truck! my truck!" Sometimes he waddled across the road (holding up that long neck so proudly) to the ponds & when it'd be suppertime, I'd holler for him & he'd come flying in. What a glorious sight to behold!

The first time I was bending over pulling grass for him, I kept hearing a low 'honk' sound & everytime I'd raise up it'd stop. So back down I'd go pulling grass & there came that sound...'honk'. I finally figured it out, haha!

He'd chase everyone that came into our yard & always nip the Mister's heels & start "flogging". He was so ornery to everyone but me & loved for me to pet him. I even bought him a swimming pool & he'd show off something fierce.

SisThankful~I understand about "forgetting". Once I was to go get my little grandson & I constantly watched the clock worrying that I'd "forget" about him! I'd get absorbed doing something & the fear would come over me that I'd missed the time.

I love getting out in the rain. When we were little, we'd catch the rainwater to bathe in or wash our hair with. I miss the simple times.

My computer was acting up again. Couldn't get the Baptist Board to Load. Now I can. Don't know what happened.

You know I can't ever rewrite a lost message.

I wanted to tell you that I remembered to pick up my granddaughter. She did her homework and then we played games. The oldest has his own car so he picked up the other two and I really didn't know what time to start worrying about them, but they arrived safely and are doing their homework now.

We have three teenagers and a 10year old staying with us while parents are out of town. They are sooooo good. They pick up after themselves, help cook and clean up.

They are in school all day, but I'm too old for this responsibility. I love having them.

I will have to hurry because when homework is completed they will probably want the computer for awhile.

Maybe I should get a goose to go walking with me. Muffin certainly can't protect me. Our neighborhood is very safe, but I still carry my cell phone and a walking stick when I walk alone...I don't need it for walking.

All this talk about pets and thangs brought to mind of a pet pig and his wife that were on a property way back when I was a wee young slip of a lass who had gone out back to be a governess. I could actually earn more money on the dole cos my wage was basically bed and board but hey the nearest shop was about 100 miles away so I went to experience life out west.

Anyhow there was this huge huge pig who was pink and his sow of a wife who was black and tan. He was a watch pig cos if anyone came onto the house paddock he would nip their heels something chronic. It was pretty intimidating seeing a huge dinner on legs coming at you at full throttle.

Mind you when you are the only folk for about an hour in any direction it is really quiet, so even the least attentive would hear their truck acoming. It let us put the kettle on to boil and make sure (and there always was) plenty of scones and cake to feed any visitors.....

Ah memories.... wonder what ever happened to Mr Pig.....

Well, I never considered myself "city-fied", but guess I am!! Never had a goose, a pig, a snake or anything except 2 cats, one of which (Honey) died of old age ( ) and one "adopted" (Abby) by a very good friend when I started having to travel a lot for my job (

)!

I regret to inform you, that having some experience with pigs, Mr. Pig has passed on to pork haven (not a spelling error).

Pigs are amazingly fast and agile for their size, and clever to boot. They are also very clean for the animal world, despite their reputation for wallowing in the muck (done to keep cool).

Well, CJ, having grown up in London, England, I am citified, but since living in Canada, I have spent a great deal of my time in the country. Now I am lost when I must go to the city.

I wonder how many campfires you have sung that song beside over the years. Reminds of of some years ago, back in early 60's, when I took in a summer of camp in Pennsylvania. It was at Sankanac and Streamside. I even earn Kanakness Society honours along the Brandy Wine River..............sorry...memories.......The Bible Club Movement is a great organization and founded by a woman with a burden for children...

Thank u Jim. This is a great website. It is extraordinary to have such a chance to gain insights into the American mind and others from where I live. Americans are very foreign and there are so many different view points of course.


It is sad to be so isolated by so many miles, which makes travel so expensive for Ozzies, it makes me feel so parochial....

Whew! I sure miss my babies helping...they used to peel the 'taters & carrots for my pot roast...now I have KP duty all by myself!

MORE rain for today, "Y A Y"! We will miss it this summer, I'm sure. The tulip trees are blooming among other things, but my favorite time of the year is Autumn.

The only song I can remember around a campfire was one called "Kumbaya". I was 8 & lived in Issaquah, Washington. Haven't heard it since.

Brudder Dan~da granny was an army brat-child! hahaha. My daddy was a career man in the Army & therefore, I've been to lotsa places, including Alaska, all the way to Aberdeen, Maryland.

I've lived in North Carolina, Georgia(where he retired & died), Texas, California, & the states mentioned. I was born & bred in Mississippi...pure diXie!

You might be pleased to know that both England and Canada financially supported the South in the Civil War. Crucial meeting were held in Montreal, Quebec to both exchange monies and to discuss war strategies.

Hi folks

a special g'day to granny gumbo, my dad was regular army too so i know all about frequent postings, during childhood. my mum celebrated each state move with a new baby, thankfully Australia does not have 50+ states heheh.

I thought Eric the Red discovered canada and USA? Dan.... and Columbus was a johnny come lately....
mind you I could put my American History knowledge on the head of a small pin....
