1. If God is omnipotent, He would have the power to stop evil.

2. If God is onmibenevolent, He would be willing to stop evil.

3. If God is omniscient, He would have foreseen the existence of evil and would have prevented it.

So if God is both willing and able to stop and prevent evil, why does evil exist? I am interested to hear your thoughts.

Note: the intent of this thread is to provoke a thoughtful discussion that would deepen our faith by challenging our presuppositions. We ought to be respectful. However, we should welcome honest criticism if we are to ever find truth and mature in our faith.

Education. All evil can be traced to a ignorance and a immaturity of some kind.

For example at this very moment you have absolutely no evidence of ANYTHING EVIL going on right now other then your personal ACCUSATION of the content of you experiencing right now.

Outside nowadays very very cold. But the truth is you have never felt "COLD" yourself. You rely on faith base sense of FEEL from your skin that sends a BRAIN SIGNAL of particular sensations and it reports those signals to your brain.

You TRUST/FAITH your senses. the GOOD/BAD surrounding what you feel is made up by you. And you tell yourself if its bad or good. But YOU-YOU have never directly touched any of it. Best you got is some brain signal/ a communication.

Everything that reports to you is God given.

And what about Natural evil? Hurricanes, earthquakes, plagues, etc. Are these a result if ignorance and immaturity too?

"delizzle,

Can you please elaborate?
Nothing can exist or happen outside of God's control ...can it? let's see;
deut32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

39 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

psalm115:3 But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.

isa46
9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,

10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

11 Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.

Yes. First nothing evil about it. You dont' know what happens after you die. YOUR FEAR OF UNKNOWN is cause by ignorance.

Every sensation you feel is just a sensation, You personally assign it pain and suffering.

I got a real easy way to prove all this.

See you have a pretty good control of your television you can turn it off and put the remote on table and when you want it on again you can pick it up and turn it on again.

That called having control over it.

So for the next hour i'd like for you AT WILL to stop all thinking in your mind.

If you can't stop thinking AT WILL with your mind. Then obviously do not control your mind.

Either you are CRAZY, Under SLAVE CONTROL, or just PLAIN IGNORANT.

All religions are aimed to same common denominator of a problem.

22“The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. 23“But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

Think about it your running off the premise that nature requires you to run on a combative mode concerning the safety of one's own existence, When chances are if you were the architect you would make it 100% "safe".

Even this thing you call LIFE if we look at the atoms and molecules is there any LIFE-element? We can buy all the materials to "make" you at a walmart for about 20 dollars. Not a single piece of you is a spectacular molecule or atom thats different from anything else found anywhere. All of which is indestructible, all thats timeless in age.

Or we can take an honest look at the question and apply some apologetics.
Are you insinuating I took a "dishonest" look at the question?

You may be comfortable settling for blind faith and nonchalantly kicking the can to the skeptics, but I am not.
Now I see the problem. You don't understand faith. Faith is not blind, faith, True Faith, is an informed faith.

So I would appreciate it if we take a serious look at the issue so that in the event a newly orphaned child askes you, "Why God would do such a thing?" you will have more to say than " Read Romans 9 and stop asking stupid questions."
I've taken a serious look at the issue. And I never said anything remotely similar to "Read Romans 9 and stop asking stupid questions." Please try to quote me accurately.

First, I am not saying you are being dishonest. I am saying that we need to objectively assess the delimma without a bias presuppositions.

Second, I agree that true faith is informed. I call it justifiable faith. So I also assume that we are in agreement that knowing why we ought to believe something is important.

Third, the statement about Romans 9 was a general statement I have heard from several Calvinists. It wasn't intended to be directed specifically towards you. My apologies.

For the moment.

Is that what you would say to a grieving mother who infant is suffering a terminal illness? "Your baby is suffering because it pleases the Lord?"

Is that why my wife suffered when she was murdered? Because it pleases the Lord? Can you see why this answer may drive people away from the Church?

You show compassion to a grieving mother, father, brother, sister, friend et al. You pray with them, cry with them, and be silent alongside them when words fail. Does any of that change the theological truth that God often uses suffering for His purpose? No. Of course not. God does not reveal the why of suffering other than we know all things are for His glory. Joseph told His brothers that they meant it for evil while God meant it for good. God had a larger purpose in Joseph being sold into slavery that neither Joseph or his brothers could possibly imagine. The same is true for all types of suffering whether it be physical, spiritual, or emotional.

God is Love, kindness, and compassion. Without God there is no grieving mother, she wouldn't care to begin with. One would even be apathetic to one's own suffering.

Your not wanting to suffer is a "GOOD" thing. Your wanting to be happy is a "GOOD" thing. Your not wanting another to suffer is a "good" thing.

God doesn't need an education, Grieving mother however does. Especially if she thinks the entire point of her existence is for her to get beat up.

The root of the problem is our SIN. We have a combative view of life, we are acting in fear.

I have no answer, You need to ask Him why it is so.

I agree. Initially, the best thing to do is be present. However, eventually they will want answers and I respectfully have to say that I don't think anything mentioned thus far would keep them around very long.

I have had the experience of trying to comfort people who were facing tragic circumstances. I never once thought I was up to the task. All I knew was that God would have to be the one to make sense of the senseless. In each situation, I was able to share words of hope. Those words did not always bring joy in the moment but they did later.
