They're not. Felonies, domestic abuse, and some mental disorders disqualify people from buying a gun., why are convicted felons and those convicted of domestic abuse allowed to purchase guns?

To add, not detract - are people with mental problems denied driver's licenses?
I wouldn't be so sure. You have many other things wrong, so there is a high probability that you are wrong about that too.I'm certain about the fact that my friend's abusive husband who is on Medicare disability for mental problems is allowed to purchase a gun anyway in the state of Ill.
All licensed gun dealers are required to run background checks at gun shows. Anyone who tells you differently is either lying or misinformed. Yes, I've purchased a pistol at a gun show and I had to do the background check. What's wrong about requiring background checks at gun shows?
In Texas, a felon can have a single long gun in the home for protection after a certain amount of time after release (although I'm not sure if they are allow to actually purchase it themselves). I don't happen to know for sure what the time is, but it used to be either two or five years after release. Persons who have a documented history of domestic abuse are not allowed to purchase firearms. Also, why are convicted felons and those convicted of domestic abuse allowed to purchase guns?
I'm on your side, Alcott. As I said, I was attempting to add, not detract.Since I've been of age, I've always been able to get my driver's license. Perhaps it's you who should answer your own question.
Now the government wants to make silencers legal for citizens. Why do we need those? .
That's a reasonable point. But just look at the huge number of guns and deaths using guns in America compared with other countries. Now the government wants to make silencers legal for citizens. Why do we need those? For self-defense why do we need assault rifles? And I have an old friend married to an abusive husband. He is on Medicare disability for mental problems but can walk into a gun store and buy a gun. I simply argue that we take a common-sense approach and at least have appropriate background checks.
I'm not talking about taking away all firearms. I'm talking about outlawing semi-automatic and automatic (used in the terrorist attack in Las Vegas) and performing better background checks. Today in many states there are no background checks at gun shows or for guns bought over the internet. To my knowledge, semi-automatic weapons have only be used in mass murders.I have owned firearms for over 50 years and have never committed suicide or murder.
My wife and I have been members of gun clubs and thoroughly enjoyed our many many target practice sessions.

AR-15 style “assault rifles are never used in self-defense and should be outlawed as they used to be until the NRA flexed it's control over the GOP.Read the op.
1. Federally licensed gun sellers are required to run background checks. But not all sellers are required to be licensed. Some of those unlicensed sellers sell at gun shows.I wouldn't be so sure. You have many other things wrong, so there is a high probability that you are wrong about that too.

The so-called "gun show loophole" is simply a private sale - that has nothing to do with gun show or any of its agents or licensed dealers - that happen to take place on the premises of a gun show. Most private sales are not made at gun shows. Much has been made of the alleged "loophole" to dishonestly paint a gun show as a free-for-all where criminals and terrorist can buy weapons. In my experience, everyone who talks about that alleged loophole doesn't know what they are talking about (they have been misled), or they won't admit that they are repeating a lie.

Does anyone remember the Happy Land Fire of 1990? 87 people died in a case of arson. A mass murder happened, and the weapon was fire.
But, you didn't hear anyone calling for a ban on fire.

Stick to the point. Why do private citizens need silencers? Someone said to protect their hearing. Bogus. What about simply wearing ear muffs?evidence this is nothing more than DNC talking points
Hillary Is Already Going After The NRA -- Here's Her Whole Attack
Let me educate you. Fully automatic weapons were used in the terrorist attack in Las Vegas.First of all, let me try to educate you a little. The vast majority of all "AK47" and "AR15" type firearms owned by US citizens are NOT fully automatic and not "assault" weapons. They only fire once with each trigger-pull, exactly like dove-hunting shotguns, semi-auto deer rifles and .22's do. The relative few which are fully automatic are either owned by the government or by law-abiding citizens under a special(and very expensive) license and background checks.
Second, IF your statistics are true , people in other countries who have little access to firearms are committing their murders with knives, machetes, IED's, vehicles etc etc. The sweet little "religion of peace" Muslim "refugees" who attacked the Boston Marathon, did it with pressure-cooker bombs. You want to outlaw pressure cookers too?
Third, we DO have background checks, which ONLY restrict law-abiding citizens. Let me ask you this: if we can't keep Mexicans from smuggling drugs into our country, how in the name of common sense do you think we will prevent criminals from smuggling guns too, AFTER the whining liberals take them away from law-abiding citizens? I will answer that question for you: we won't.
