They call me liberal, not because of the party I am registered with, but because I believe hurricanes are caused by high-pressure systems and not by gay marriages.

No doubt there is a link out there somewhere to some article that you have again failed to provide.

I believe you have it wrong again CTB. Hurricanes are generally caused by low pressure systems.

I think you mean "Low Pressure"..
But people probably think of you as a liberal, because they see you are one..

People call me liberal because I take Christ's teaching more seriously than I take the Tea Party.

Oh, and on hurricanes and high pressure. If there were no Bermuda High system there would be no hurricanes.

The major steering wind influence of most U.S. hurricanes is an area of high pressure known as the Bermuda High.

It is true that low pressure accompanies hurricanes with the lowest in the eye of the hurricane.

Actually "liberal" is a good word, a Biblical word. Leftist is the better term.

So true, but liberals sure hate being called that.. I, on the other hand like being called a conservative, and I like using proper terms like, liberal, socialist, leftist, Marxist, communist, etc.

They call me a fundamentalist because I say nothing happens that GOD doesn't allow to happen and that BIBLICALLY there is no such thing as gay marriage and that it is a creation of the devil himself to hasten the destruction of God's plan( Mal. 2:15) to produce Godly offspring.

The devil ALWAYS tries to imitate God's way.

Serious question. As someone who takes the teachings of Christ so seriously, why do you and so many other "liberal Christians" seem to always be doing so much to advance that which does not advance His word as the absolute truth? There seems to be a preponderance of liberals who put more faith in man's science than they do God's word.

We also take seriously the commands of Christ, but we also take seriously the commands of God as contained in the rest of the NT.

If you want to be a leftist, be a leftist. But as soon as you play the "I am more spiritual than you are because I mention Jesus" card, you lose me and most everyone else.

The Bermuda High current is about steering the hurricanes not about creating the hurricanes which come out of low pressure systems.

Why do we associate Scripture, God, the Gospel and everything that is holy with politicians or political philosophies regardless of party. Politicians, with few exceptions, are thieves, liars, robbers, pass laws that condone murder, pass laws that promote gay rights, and deny us our Constitutional rights.

How dare anyone associate a Holy God with the self indulgent slobs of the Republican or Democratic Party.

Amen. I continue to see nothing but a platform of evil from most(not all) politicians. Both sides are pretty disgusting.

I really admire your political stand in relation to your faith. We are very close politically. I do wish there was a way in this dilemma called voting for Romney that we agreed about, and it is a close call. The whole quagmire of the choice of Obama or Romney is our own fault, especially after the warning we had in 2008 with the choice of Obama and McCain. We did not, as conservatives and Republicans, start a grass roots effort to nominate a decent candidate. He or she does not have to be perfect, but they could at least be some denomination of Christian and have a record of opposing abortion and gay rights.

I guess this is where the line divides us. There is a chance Romney will change his mind about abortion and gay rights. There is no chance Obama will. Also, Romney has created jobs. It is not a ringing endorsement, but it is all we have.

Again, it is kind of sad that we come to a different conclusion, because I very much respect your views, as they for the most part are mine.

Regardless, until there is a radical change in the minset of the Washington establishment, we have no right to assoicate anything Holy with the garbage that runs this nation.

Zaac, I appreciate your question, I really do.

First -- theologically I do not see myself as liberal. I see no conflict between God and science. God created the laws we of nature/science that we are slowly discovering. Where there is seeming conflict it only means we have not yet made enough discovers to fully understand.

On the BB I am considered liberal not because of science, but because of politics. I believe that Christ prefers people over politics and corporations. Of course there were no corporations during the time he was on earth. So nothing is said about them as it would have been meaningless to the people he was speaking to and teaching.

It is not God's word that is the problem. It is our interpretation ... and none of us have all the answers. Also none of us understand perfectly. Additionally I am stuck with interpreting using only English. That alone creates problems as it does for anyone who is limited to English. There is meaning lost in every translation from one language to another.

Two -- I do not see myself as so liberal in politics. The way Christ lived his life and how he interacted with others greatly influence me as to what policies I agree with and support. If I see policies that conflict with how I believe Christ would want we Christian to live I will oppose them. When people in need are ignored or harmed through policies and proposed policies I will be firmly against them. I do not see that as either conservative nor liberal. I see it as following the teachings of Christ. Thus I see myself as neither conservative nor liberal as I am pro-people and try to be pro-people to the best of my understanding of Christ and his life and teachings.

I know my answer will draw hoots of derision from some. That's OK. I simply consider the source and understand that they do not understand and some are not willing to try to understand. That is their problem, not mine.

So, statement #3. They call me liberal because I believe Christ was more interested in people and helping people than in money or politics.

Watch out Saturnepture, that is the type of thinking that caused many to start calling me names.

To answer your question, it is one of the new heresies of our time. God is not a Republican nor a Democrat. Christ seemed to have no interest in politics. He was interested in people and in how they lived and treated each other.

Amen and AMEN to your statement. Thanks for voicing it.

It is obvious that we do not agree politically, but since both parties are in the state that they are, Republicans are only slightly closer than Democrats in the grand scheme of things.

When I say that Romney IMO will cause less harm than Obama, that is from a secular standpoint. Neither does this nation any good spiritually. No doubt we disagree on this point.

When both prevailing parties are run by a majority of liars and thieves, dedicated to dumbing down the people, taking away individual effort, and trashing the Constitution, the terms liberal and conservative become meaningless. There has to be a minimal standard of honesty to have an honest debate or election.

Politically, the biggest divide is not between the Democrats and Republicans, but between them as one unit, and those who have a heart for serving others, believe in liberty and freedom, and follow the Constitution.

As for the tone of your posts, they are well thought out, and , I do not sense any meanness or hatred. My guess is that if it reaches a point beyond that, you use private messages. Because I disagree with you on certain aspects of politics does not mean I do not like or respect you. Your posts show a person that thinks things through and is a person of compassion.

The point is that you are a brother in Christ. Each of us are a unique creation of the Lord, and each of us is here for a specific purpose, with different gifts to glorify Him.

Thank you for your post. Yes, every person is unique and all will never agree with all. That is fine. In fact, it would be a very boring world if we all agreed. I fear much of the derisive comments pointed in my direction come from a confusion of politics and Christianity. I seem to have a few lurkers who follow me around to make inane comments. I often find them very amusing. Finding such things amusing rather than getting angry, even in life I do this, is perhaps a flaw in my character. I'd rather laugh than become hot, flustered and angry and sputter nonsense. LOL [I am sure this will bring some amusing comments.]

I grew up in a part of the country were the culture of that region was very confused with being Christian. That was not good. When I became old enough to understand it influenced my choices and I continually try to keep culture and Christ separate ... and the same with politics.

Again, thanks for your reasoned reply.
