The board is a lot like life and a lot like church. There are those who will love you no matter what and there are those who will not love you no matter what. Deal with it.

And, yes, we all could probably be a little more compassionate in the manner in which we disagree. I for one know that at times I come on pretty strong. Nothing wrong with debating a point passionately, but do not make personal attacks like...

"you idiot" -- rather, "how anyone with even a kindergarten education could believe that is beyond my grasp!"

"you heretic" -- rather, "the point you make is so contrary to clear teaching of the Word of God as to be outside the realm of common faith!"

"you rank liberal" -- "I believe the Bible and you obviously don't!"

You get the drift. We are much more refined (sometimes) in our name-calling. Yeah, we need to contend for the faith, but could we be just a little less contentious about it?

People are allowed to challenge posts. And every challenge is not a personal attack.
Do you put yourself in this description? You never rebutted me...you ATTACKED me without provocation! Yes, people are way too thin-skinned...crying over every little thing I say. Challenge my posts all you want...that is welcome. It is a message board. But don't you dare attack me and cry and whine to the moderators when I fight back twice as hard. Every challenge from you has been a personal attack. There is a post history that will prove that fact. Thank you. Now...I'm glad every one will have a thick skin and not cry about my post.

As for the poll...the fact that people are not allowed to speak their mind is indicative of the need for the poll.

There are rules that must be observed — the Webmaster has not created this board to be a Baptist version of professional rasslin' — and the moderators and administrators do their best to adhere to the rules and keep a civil tone about the place.

They (including myself) are not perfect and make mistakes, sometimes from lack of knowledge, sometimes from pure exasperation.

There are posters who intentionally push buttons — you know which forums they're in — and others who are eager to have their buttons pushed. Such is life.

I do not believe in "love it or leave it." We all come from different parts of the globe, from different backgrounds, from different views of what being a Baptist is. This board is for Baptists, and those who are interested in learning about a wide assortment of Baptists should hang in there — grow a thicker skin, forgive slights and even idiocy, curb the desire to answer in anger and contend gently.

And that's all I got to say 'bout that ...

Sure. Always vote when I have an opportunity.

And you can probably guess how I voted . .

I probably could guess how you voted. And you could guess how I voted. Such is freedom of speech.

Actually, I did not vote. I would rather not...never know how it will come back to bite me.

This board is like most others on the Net, a group of basically amiable people who love to argue and sometimes do so without tact or humility. I would expect slightly more from a Christian board, but we're all still human (and Baptist), so...

How can you say that ? How can you possibly say that you are not allowed to speak your mind ?

And if that is an attack, then I'm Mickey Mouse.

The anonimity of the internet does embolden. At 6'1", 210 lbs, I doubt some of the things said to me here would be said to my face. Also, face to face confrontations don't allow the time between statements, to come up with a real good comeback.

My mother was one that said whatever popped into her mind, no matter how much it hurt other people. She was very judgemental, always thought she was right and didn't care how her comments sounded or felt to others. She would argue until she was at the point of shouting or until the other person walked away from her. She would never give in to the fact that she might be wrong. She also thought she was a better Christian than anyone else and would get defensive and cry if someone admonished her. She loved being a "martyr". All of us kids were terribly afraid of her.

I use her as an illustration that just because we always think we are right, it doesn't give us the right to hurt others. What we write here can be a blessing or a terrible weapon. All of us are never always right and never always wrong. We must write our posts with the ever present duty to be Christlike and loving to our fellow posters. After all, we are brothers and sisters in Chirst. If we treat our kinfolks like this, what kind of example are we to unsaved people.

Can't we disagree with love?

If someone has an ongoing disagreement with another person, discuss it in private or drop it, but be Christian about it and stop attacking each other on the boards.

Curtis, the bigger they are, the harder they fall. 6'1", 210 lbs? So, you're still growing? A deacon said that about me and I replied, "The bigger they are, the harder they fall on you."

We should be allowed to say we disagree, without having to worry about childish tantrums. I think people want to be provacative, just to make themselves look like victims. (Actually, very few).

I will be the first to admit I say some harsh things when I see posts with absolutely no truth in them. I will also admit that I hit the refresh button often, to see what comes back. But folks should expect it from me. I've been here several years, doing the same thing. The fact is, outrageous stuff gets posted here, and if folks can't handle the responses they get, they shouldn't be here.

I was horrified at the show put on by several posters here today. The lack of any respect, or gratitude for having a place like this provided for them was appalling.

Gib, I'm growing as a Christian, or trying, but my size, well, I find it more of a hinderance, now. At 44, I just try to keep from getting wider.
