How many churches in America accept assistance from the government? Tax receipts, land tax exemptions, etc............? That is a form of social assistance...socialism!

I think America is somewhat hypocritical in its opposition to some things, including freedom of speech and freedom in general.

I know, like I said...we have no need of Socialism. I agree the greater threat is to that of our individual liberties. That is why we do not need this health care reform in this manifestation of it.

I do not need a government who placed Social Security taxed benefits into a general fund and has now bankrupted it.

I do not need a government which supports the idea that if I do not want to work I should still be rewarded equally with an individual who is willing to work and struggle and become successful.

I do not need a government that lies to me and tells me they can reform Education 'if' only we will support a lottery...which in the revenue ends up in a general fund from which legislators can pull from out of to support pet projects or so-called social welfare entitlements.

I do not need a government whose sole object in proposing social welfare entitlements is nothing more than to fill its own pockets.

I do not need these things, they openly and unabashadly oppose what the founders of this country fought, died, risked there lives for etc. etc.

I cannot name one single public servant in America who would stand with the founding fathers in placing their lives and fortunes subject to loss.

This is the one I wouldn't mind an explanation for. Why did the colonies fight England? Fewer than 10 % wanted to go to war. Only the leaders said we will revolt against the bad taxes of King George III (a madman without doubt).

The postage stamp was originally a tax.

There were no benefits under English rule. Taxes just went to the King with Americas as a colony. There were no benefits in England either before 1948-49, and health services in 1952.

In short, I do not support Social Security, I do not support anything the government provides as set up primarily to fill the bank accts. of our supposed public servants.

For example, I am an electrician, IBEW at that...figure that out a Conservative among the wolves...Ok, I am an electrician. Our government tests the winds and senses a pending crisis in continued use of Coal Fired power plants (anyone chkd. the emissions of a shuttle launch?? just wandering), so, they SAY they want to support cleaner energy, perhaps nuclear, ok. Now, ff to cash for clunkers---broke in the first days of its introduction---what happens---congress decides they need to infuse 2 Bil. back into it...where will they get this???---well it just so happens they have 2 Bil they can swipe from the Energy Dept.---result---well now we can all have taxpayers to buy each of us a new car---but construction jobs scheduled to begin have now been halted indefinitely, with some locals (Union halls) stating they will probably not even have any work for 2 yrs.

Moral, ??? Well, the only moral I can see is that only the automotive industry is entitled to social welfare.

Well Jim, according to the History Channel it was a conspiracy led by English hating French Masons, their Colonial American Masonic brethren were all too willing to bloody the nose of merry ol' England...oh, wait a minute...Masonic history in its modern recognizable form began in England and Scotland...HUUUUM, well Jim, I just don't know. Perhaps the people of England should have taken the que and demanded like liberties??? I mean really, I can't answer a question that would require me to know much more about English history that what is taught in American Secondary and Post Secondary Education--I mean I had a course in the Reformation, but that focuses primarily on the religious going ons, then I took a course on England during the Enlightenment...but I don't recall anything on why it took Englishmen so long to gain the liberties their American cousins fought and gained much earlier...sorry.

Well, in England we had the class system, which helped to destroy the National Health progam because they had the money to fund their own medicine.

Where I lived in East London, we used the gypsies for our medical system up to when I left England in 1948. In Canada we had no medical system aside from Blue Cross Insurance up to the late fifties and into the 60's. Socialized medicine was our saviour.

You mentioned Union Halls. Unionism is one of the largest socialist organizations in the world. It robs people who invest their life's savings to start a business and without a penny spent they want to run the business! Shucks, that is closer to communism than socialism.

Social services got started in hard times like the 30's when people went hungry, sick and died, or commited suicide.

I am not even going get started on Civil Rights, Blacks, Jews and their treatment into the 60's.

We all have areas we would like to deny. Canada is not perfect, but at least we don't lose our homes to get medical care. I don't like the moochers either.......if a man will not work, neither shall he eat......but I am willing to overlook them for those who have legitimate need.

You make some valid points. I agree in regards to the corruption of the Unions. I do not think straining our nation with this present health care reform is going to help.

At present our Congressmembers think it absurd for us to expect them to read and understand the bill prior to their passing it.

In so much as the retirements, I don't see anyone being able to enjoy retirement except the super wealthy. Still yet there is a maintained class system.

Speculation on Wall Street, High costs of labor (Unionism) and a collective mindset of entitlement are all collaborating (spelling??) to erode the principles of this nation. Rather than to protect those principles as they are sworn to do, our politicians of both parties agitate toward their final demise.

Actually churches in America that receive non taxable services and tax exemptions is not a form of socialism. The churches own the land and the buildings the govt does not! The understanding of freedom maybe hard to understand in a country where the citizens are subjects, but it is easily understood in a country where the citizens are are free. (tho true freedom is a constant struggle)

I find this an interesting statement seeing that it was Baptist that fought so hard for both the freedom of speech and freedom of religion during the founding of our country. John, In many respects we enjoy more freedoms in Canada than you do in the USA. To find this out you must live here and compare it with living in the USA....I have been in both places, and I will take Canada even over my homeland of England.

If you own land you are still required to pay taxes for the benefits that come with that land, community and local services.

This really is an unwarranted slam. Canada's ties to England are symbolic at best. To refer to the citizens of Canada as subjects is demeaning. Perhaps we should refer to the Americans as serfs. Name-calling or even the inference thereof does no good here. In both nations the citizens are "free."
We have our own constitution, our own charter of rights, our own armed forces, etc. And if you haven't noticed, it is our southern neighbor that we look for in both protection and trade; not our so called "mother nation" to whom we supposedly are "subject to." That is only a fable.
