Consider these themes of Hebrews:

1) God's Son is greater than Angels.
2) Jesus is God's greatest messenger
3) Jesus is our true High Priest
4) The followers of Jesus must be faithful in the face of persecution.

These themes have been lifted from the NLT's Immersion Version of the NT.

Though I'm not particularly fond of the NLT, we used it in our men's Bible studies at the Cowboy Church. It seemed to be fairly accurate and dependable on the subjects we were studying, and I use it at times in my daily Bible Study. I've heard good and bad, but I've never really posted a query on what others thought of the version. What are your thoughts? I consider it more of a paraphrase...a thought for thought or concept for concept version, and not a true translation. Thanks in advance.

I would definitely agree with your description of "thought for thought," sir.

The more literal and formal translations might be harder to read and understand, but less chance to have interpretation creep into the translation!

This is one of the problems I have with the NLT. Over the past week, I've read several passages that have words that totally distort what I find in the KJV, and isn't consistant with what is taught by most mainline Baptist churches.

Shocker! Other Bible translations don't read identically with KJV renderings.

Now be specific. What passages in particular are you talking about?

Good for newly saved, but should move on to a more formal translation !
People who have been in the Faith a long time would benefit from using it. It should be used as a comparison with something more form-oriented.
By the way, did you know that Chuck Swindoll uses it as his main preaching text?

Yes, and we're so impressed with your vast knowledge!

*Words of affirmation for you, my dear RipponRedeaux.*
