Trump Administration Picks Strange Fight With Meals On Wheels

Meals On Wheels is not totally supported by the government. I think it totals about 35% or something. The way I understand it, only 3% is being cut because it is being paid out of another program that needs to be eliminated. So, I do not think M.O.W. is in any trouble.

Charles Dickens character Scrooge would agree with government support of Meals On Wheels. Scrooge said, "...I can't afford to make idle people merry. I help support the establishments [government programs] I have mentioned: they cost enough: and those who are badly off must go there."

So, if anyone feels M.O.W. is a worthy program give it some of your money and stop asking the government to steal from the rest of us.

The same can be said about a lot of programs that my tax money supports that you wish to keep around. Very much a me me me kind of comment with little disregard for the well being of your fellow citizens.

I couldn't find any official government statistics concerning how many people in America die per year of starvation.

At least one liberal site said the government is suppressing the statistics which I doubt.

If it ever did happen it would make the news at the speed of light from coast to coast and President Trump would be threatened with impeachment (or tar and feathering) for the dastardly dead.

In the 1950's myself (a teen) and my younger brothers and sisters were in the worse poverty I have ever seen with very little money ($9.00/month welfare and free rent in a cockroach infested housing project).

There were NO FOODSTAMPS then, "government surplus" food was available which we were allowed to have.

That plus food and clothing donations from The Free Masons, The Catholic Church, The Salvation Army, a couple of local Baptist churches and one very rich private citizen we had no lack of food.

No one HAS TO go hungry in America even without food stamps, Meals on Wheels, etc...
Unless of course they want to do so.

You are making a linkage in your own mind that does not exist.

But just so I understand--are you saying if the administration cuts the "prison social welfare programs" you would accept cuts in Meals on Wheels?

Yes. Both parties care little about actually cutting into the National Debt. One party gets elected and they target certain sectors of the Government to cut to please their base. Another party gets in and they target their base for cuts.

No reduction of debt actually happens anymore which is why I am trying to give an example of why I feel it is ridiculous to target such an obscure program that actually does benefit people while the current administration is set to increase federal funding for the War on Drugs and further increase the prison population of non violent drug offenders who cost more per person to feed than the Meal on Wheels can dream of touching.

One area which would garner quite a bit of $$ is "Waste and Fraud Reform" .

Having worked for several government agencies (both state and federal) I know first hand how waste is a real issue in the government work sector. Not all agencies but enough where the savings would be substantial.

Fraud. Occasionally there are reports of fraud against one of the several government agencies of assistance here in WA. Another area of the waste of citizens taxes.

Give credit where credit is due - WA State is diligent against fraud and has a department :
The Office of Fraud and Accountability | DSHS - Washington State.

I have written fraud software for an insurance company and made a bid once to do so for this WA State fraud organization but didn't get the contract.

They have also had their problems.

Even Scrooge didn't have the nerve to claim the government should do the work of the church. It does not matter how many programs are out there. The government has no constitutional authority to fund them. I took an oath to uphold the constitution and just like the spendthrifts, I said, "so help me God" at the end but I meant it.

If a man has a cause he wants to support and enlist others to help, so be it. I just don't like forcing the use of tax money that is laundered through the sticky hands of fat cats laying sideways in the public trough lapping it up like there's no tomorrow.
