Poverty is the main reason for crime.
The injustice is that white police officers will assume white men are innocent while assuming black men are guilty. That is not equitable.
If a black man drives down the road in a mercedes, people assume he's a drug dealer. The cops follow him. If a white man drives down the road in a mercedes, people assume he earned it. The cops ignore him.
Guess what. That is racism!
This is disappointing. Mindless patriotism results in fascism.
When we have a systemic racist society, not supporting that racism is more patriotic than those who mindlessly support an evil system.
I support the 1st Amendment and the right to free speech. Not standing in support of systemic racism is an American right that our President should support rather than ridicule.
Secondly, how does a supposed Christian tweet out such angry comments?
This is so very dissapointing.
Do you know Kaepernick's upbringing?
Having money does not make you most privileged.
You are looking silly.
I don't think MennoSota was referring to the NFL. I think he's referring to the United States as a whole.
That being said, slaves worked the fields while whites ran the plantation. Your argument that 70% of the workers are black does not mean that systemic racism doesn't exist. How many black owners are there in the NFL? How many black head coaches? How many black general managers? How many black CEO's and upper managers in the NFL?
The outcry against guys like Kaepernick is actually a racist outcry against a black man who had the courage to call out injustice in our society.
I've done it in detail before, so feel free to look it up here on the board in my past posts. But I'm not going through all the research again when I've definitively proven that there is no systemic racism on the side of police officers. In fact, comparatively speaking, police officers shoot white people roughly 5% (if memory serves) more than black people in the same situation.
In 2015, The Washington Post launched a real-time database to track fatal police shootings, and the project continues this year. As of Sunday, 1,502 people have been shot and killed by on-duty police officers since Jan. 1, 2015. Of them, 732 were white, and 381 were black (and 382 were of another or unknown race).
But as data scientists and policing experts often note, comparing how many or how often white people are killed by police to how many or how often black people are killed by the police is statistically dubious unless you first adjust for population.
According to the most recent census data, there are nearly 160 million more white people in America than there are black people. White people make up roughly 62 percent of the U.S. population but only about 49 percent of those who are killed by police officers. African Americans, however, account for 24 percent of those fatally shot and killed by the police despite being just 13 percent of the U.S. population. As The Post noted in a new analysis published last week, that means black Americans are 2.5 times as likely as white Americans to be shot and killed by police officers.
"Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed."
FWIW, MennoSota was temporarily banned for a rules violation. He then attempted to return before the ban expired as Finlandia. That earned him a permaban. And of course, Finlandia was permabanned. So, y'all can stop replying to posts under those names.
...I won't say that there is "systemic racism," but the fact is that if you are a black suspect you have a much higher chance of being killed at the hands of police than if you are white....
For some clarification, I was not speaking of raw numbers. Obviously, in raw numbers white people are killed more often than black people, with black people accounting for roughly 12-13% of the population. My numbers were in comparison to crime rate. So, I'll move on to the next statement.I believe you are an honorable man, but the facts are otherwise.
This is the type of myth I was dispelling with my numbers. As everyone knows, raw stats mean nothing. My point was that black people are shot at a lower rate than their involvement in violent crime, while white people are shot at a higher rate than their involvement in violent crime.I won't say that there is "systemic racism," but the fact is that if you are a black suspect you have a much higher chance of being killed at the hands of police than if you are white.
This may very well be the case. If so, it shows racism in media, not the police. Which is my entire argument, that there's no systemic racism in the police force. If you want to criticize the TV folks, go ahead. But it's also true that young, white females who are kidnapped or missing or presumed murdered get much more attention than dark-skinned victims on TV. Think of the case of Natalee Holloway in Aruba. It was all over TV, hour upon hour.
Maybe. But not in my opinion.Yes, the killing of young black men has received more attention lately. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Maybe it's about time.

Larry Elder is a syndicated talk show host (happens to be black). He says this is not true, you're actually more likely to be killed if you're white. I'll try to find some info on this. I've only heard it on the radio.

We now know where Calminian gets his information. Talk radio. He says he heard info about the DACA deal on Rush Limbaugh and here he says he listens to Larry Elder. In most markets Sean Hannity is on between Limbaugh and Elder, so I'm guessing Calminian gets six hours a day of Rush, Hannity, and Elder.Well, if you heard it on the radio it must be true. Especially if you heard it from a black person.
Everyone is talking about how bad it really is.
President Trump: If you don't stand for the national anthem you should be fired.
Gee, that's not authoritarian at all. No siree.
Maybe throw them in a gulag. That'll teach 'em.
