After days of drama and suspense, President Trump announced Thursday that his administration will exit the Paris climate agreement.

"So we're getting out," Trump said. "The Paris accord is very unfair at the highest level to the United States."

His decision fulfills a campaign promise and satisfies strong Republican opposition to the global climate deal but isolates the U.S. and is certain to bring condemnation from world leaders and critics in the scientfic community.

So we cede the leadership of the environment to China and Europe. They will continue with no input from the US and that will have negative impacts on numerous corporations. Now China and Europe will tell us what automobile standards auto makers have to meet. If we neglect to change to their regulations we will be in deep doo-doo.

Politics and stupidity win out over prudent steps.

Other countries do not over rule our sovereignty. They do not get to tell us how much money we have to pay to other countries, they do not tell us what our emissions standards are to be, we make our own decisions alone.

Cheaper manufacturing costs.

Not if our products do not meet their environmental standards. No overseas sales if we do not do so. And now, with this political decision, we have no say in how those standards are set. China must be smiling broadly. It doesn't matter how inexpensively you can manufacture an item if you can't sell it.

LOL. I guess China and India will have to either make cars that adhere to those standards or buy from another Paris Climate Country like Germany or Japan. I know Volkswagen folks had to cheat to get theirs through.

DUH! It's not just automobiles we are talking about ... and we will have no input into what is decided.

Trump should use his vast wealth to finance a luxury cruise through the North West Passage. He couldn't fail to be convinced of the reality of global warming.

This agreement was an illegal endrun from the word go.
We should return the obligation of approving treaties to the Senate, where it belongs.

"President Obama’s unwillingness to put the Paris Agreement before the Senate was revealing, though, for reasons other than the short-term political calculation. The president did not believe that he could persuade enough legislators to support his plan — even though “the science is settled” on climate change, and “97 percent of scientists agree,” as he liked to say.

Accusing the Republican majority of “anti-science” boobery, he signaled his belief that addressing climate change was too important to be left to traditional democratic mechanisms.

“We the people,” acting through our representatives, could not be trusted with something so momentous. What the president did — as on the Iran nuclear agreement (another non-treaty treaty) and other acts of executive overreach — was to “depoliticize” the issue, taking the power to adjudicate the issue away from the voters and their representatives and investing it instead in the hands of a small coterie of supposed experts.

Policy made by the Congress is accountable to voters; policy made by the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change isn’t."

Guess he's already bored with his Florida retreat as it will be underwater in due course thanks in part to him.

So I guess we'll see a mass exodus from the coasts from the people rich enough to live there ? I doubt it.

Cool. When I see the rich selling their nice beach homes and moving to the mountains, and coastal property values plummet I'll maybe worry.
