Do you not measure your faith and experiences by the Bible?

OK, I've answered a number of your questions. Now answer mine. Where do you put your trust? And why?

Gospel truth has many parts but, all of it is true. No lie can ever be true. No truth can be true if partially a lie. The partial lie makes the whole a lie.

The reason there are so many translations of the Bible is because most of the translators want to make money off it. In order to have copy right one has to prove authorship or prove they translated it. There is only one way they can do that and it remain legal. Change the text so that it appears individual to their owner ship. Once the text has been changed to say something different it is no longer true.
There are many ways to say the same thing although it can loose original intent because, of it.

Perhaps what crabtownboy is missing in his doctrine is the following formula:

    1. Subordinate revelation (notions, signs, "open doors", etc.) = not 100%reliable

    2. Special revelation (the Bible) = 100% reliable

Which one are you going to rule your life by?

Revmitchell is right - we must measure our experiences by the scripture, not the other way around.

Well he seems a little wobbly on this. First his experiences are the standard but then it looked like he measured them by "words in a book" (shutter). It seems he doesnt want to be clear on this.

I know, the post I sniped my quote from was quite a long statement.
I was interacting with only one point.

Perhaps it’s your image of God that needs to change.
No translation reads the same as your favorite version.
Find out why there are differences.
Something that needs to be nurtured is bible study from an unbiased perspective.
Suspend your preconceived notions and let the texts provide the meaning.
God isn’t as simple as you imagine.

In the OP by Revmitchell, he quotes from Harold Lindsell’s book, "The Battle For The Bible" (1976).
It’s been quite a while since I’ve looked at that book but it’s this type of book that drives many away from Fundamentalism.
Lindsell promotes an extreme literalism and points fingers at those who would do otherwise.

For example, Lindsell sees the potential for err in the conflicting gospel accounts of Peter’s denial of Christ.
In attempting to harmonize the narratives he ends up saying that Peter denied the Lord six times.

Do we really need to protect the biblical accounts by developing far-fetched explanations?

I am not sure what he is trying to say here....

I do not believe that Adam and Eve "represented" mankind and womankind either....

I believe they were the first man and woman....

I am not sure what is meant in the above statement with the word "represented"

To me it sounds as if he is saying Adam and Eve were not allegorical.. but real....

But that doesn't jive with the rest of the statement.

Actually I am quite clear, but you seem to be unable or unable to understand.

Will you please answer my questions now? How do you determine if a new opportunity to serve is in God's will for your life?

"FAITH COMETH BY HEARING AND HEARING BY THE WORD OF GOD".

What can we base our faith on if we do not believe the Word of God to be true. I myself am one of the "weirdoes" that believes every word to be true.

    Hi Deacon;
Well as it turns out just about everyone who studies Bible version controversies comes away with a slightly different opinion. Personally I feel that the main reason there are so many different versions is because of the MONEY $$$. Many have added words that just aren't in the Greek text they claim it came from. I realize some are needed for it to make sense but many in the newer version do not help understanding but confuse the whole of the passage. I have read from both sides of the controversey and am left with no clear reason for more and more versions they come out with a new one every few months it seems. of course the newest is always better according to the sellers.
As far as bias we all have them. I haven't ever met anyone who didn't. We all tend to stay close to what we have been taught all our lives. I've used the KJV for nearly 50 years.
There are many things about God none of us will ever understand in this life. The Bible isn't one of them. The gospel message is so simple a child can understand it. Yet some men want to make it so complicated ??? Of course there are things I don't understand about the Bible but no one has a perfect understanding. You are right God is complicated. I've studied Him all my life and I still find out new things about Him from reading the same old scriptures all the time. If we knew all there was about God then we would know as much as He does. My little pea brain just isn't big enough to hold all that information. I just need enough truth to do what He wills.
Fundamentalist are extreme literalist other wise they are not fundamentalist. You will also find out that dispensationalist are also extreme literalist. Seems to be there motto if the Bible doesn't say it, it's probably isn't true. Fundamentalist tend to go by the book which doesn't mean they are 100% correct. Most are willing to listen to the input of others and then get in to the word and find out for sure. God's word and what it says settles it for them and me. Allegories are fictional accounts and God doesn't lie
Truthfully I've never read the book. I seldom rely on the testimonies of other men for what I believe. This isn't to say I haven't read the works of others certainly I have.
Certainly in the Spirit of fundamentalism no one can claim it by picking and choosing what they want to believe from multiple versions. Far to much truth is lost when we pick one verse from the NIV another from the NASV and yet another from the KJV forming a new belief by combining several versions. Many do this to there own loss.
I can agree that a man can be saved by hearing almost any version. God's Holy Word has a way of coming through even in the NWT as long as you know where to look.
There is no doubt in my mind many do not divide the word properly. There seems to be just about as many different ideas of what the Bible says as there are ideas of men. The whole world is full of lies about Christianity. Mostly because, men rely on men instead of God.
Everything I read about the Bible or doctrine I put to close inspection and comparison with scripture.

This is a topic we discussed a while back in the Translations/Version Forum.
Could you be specific and point to a "new belief" that was formed by combining several versions.

Read my posts and you should be able to figure it out.

And, please answer my question, how do you determine if a particular path for your life is within God's will or not?

Your posts are contrary to a clear answer. Do you not measure your faith and experiences by the Bible?

Sorry that you lack understanding. Read all my posts carefully, sythesize them, see how they balance and play off each other and perhaps you will gain an understanding. Perhaps if you made a matrix it would help your confusion.

    Please answer my question.

I gave you a number of answers on how I have used both scripture and experience to understand if a particular path in my life is God's will for my life. I am sorry you seem unable to see how the two play together.

But you have yet to answer any question I've ask. I can only assume you have no idea how to determine if a particular opportunity, path, or action is within God's will in your life.
