What makes you think that Luther is the one who originated the "Scriptures Only" belief? He wasn't! Have you ever heard of our ancient Waldenessian brethren who were tenacious believers in the final authority of the scriptures. And please let me scripturally remind you of how we're begotten as children of God:

Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

? Romans 10:17 doesn't disprove my view at all. Did you know that luther was saved before "sola scriptura" came around?

Were either Freud/Jumg saved/Spirit filled men? Think best to have the sciptures addressing thing!

Jung was a christian and was raised by a minister. His whole family were ministers. Freud was a devout Jew in his childhood and youth, and later in his life displayed Jewish tendencies or beliefs. Do some research.

Jope, I don't mean to rain on the parade, but dreams are unreliable and can sometimes just be the result of eating too much pizza or Liverwurst dip.

Should I waste my time explaining how dreams are valid regardless of what circumstance they're brought up in? Nah. Have a nice closed thread Johnny boy

If they're "facts", then give a reference there slappy.

"Slappy"?

Anyway, the estimated total population of Earth in 1500 was 500 million and from 1 AD up to that point there had been about 3 billion people that had lived. So let's call it 3.5 billion lived from 1 AD through 1500 AD. How many of these were Christians? It's hard to estimate but I'll be extremely generous and say 20%, which would put the number of Christians from 1 AD through 1500 AD at 600 million. Now, I don't believe that 20% of all people that lived in this time period were Christians, but there's a number for you.

There are about 7 billion people alive today. According to Pew Research there are 2.2 billion Christians alive today. Now, I don't believe that, and I'm sure you don't either. But even if we cut that number in half, that's 1.1 billion Christians alive today. Even if we take 10% of the world's population--half the percent estimated in the time period 1 AD through 1500 AD--that's still 700 million Christians. That's more than the generously estimated 600 million that lived through 1500 AD.

I'm fairly certain you won't accept my estimates, so let's hear yours.

Well, wasn't expecting that. Impressive! I'll get back to you. I have some history books that I could look at. Unfortunately I have a test tomoro (I'm in school), and this thread will close soon. So maybe I'll open a thread on this sometime in the future.

Anyways, if you're right about this, my original point is still valid. Christians are still Christians without sola scriptura.

Legitimate argument? How? Give me one scriptural reference for the closed canon Lutheran doctrine. This is very recent to Christianity, and the converts to Christianity before Martin Luther are still greater than the converts to Christianity after him. More Christians have been saved without sola scriptura!

This is nothing but prejudiced opinion. God always has a holy remnant (Rom. 11:5).

If you would like to discuss the remnant, that's fine, but you are also the one who steered the conversation to total numbers pre- and post- Luther. ;)

Jope, you can trace the Waldenessian brethren and the Waldenessian Bible to the third and forth century, so yep, that would be well before Martin Luther was born fer sure!

I might also add, Yeshua, the following quotation:

"The term 'archetype' [which is the hallmark of Jungianism] occurs as early as Philo Judaeus, with reference to the Imago Dei (God-image) in man. It can also be found in Irenaeus, who says: 'The creator of the world did not fasion these things directly from himself but copied them from archetypes outside himself.'...The term 'archetype' is not found in St. Augustine, but the idea of it is...." (Carl Jung, Archetypes of the Collective Unconscious, 5).
