What Books Are You Reading?

For school, I'm reading far too much! LOL. lets just say that I'm taking six classes and that requires a lot of reading. One book is "The New Penguin History of the World." I told one prof that was laughing about a history of the entire world that it was really a history of all the penguins in the world. She got a laugh out of that.

For Bible Study, I'm reading The Old Testament (will start Ezra either today or tomorrow) and I'm reading a book by Beth Moore called "Praying God's Word" Really grat book.

For fun, I'm reading "Halfway to Forever" by Karen Kingsbury. A light read, something I can read just because I have a few extra minutes and want something to read for "me"

I just joined Crossings book club and have about 10 books I need to read. I'm about to begin "Heaven" by Randy Alcorn. I just finished "Jesus" which includes writings from several people, such as Billy Graham, Max Lucado, and John MacArthur.

"Misery" by Steven King. haha, did that get everyone's attention?

One of his few without weird sexual connotations.

....better than the movie and don't read it late at night.

Sorry about the above post. It seems I don't quite know what I'm doing yet.

I was going to say that Stephen King is one of the few writers who has had movies made of his stories that are actually better than the book. "Stand by Me" and "The Shawshank Redemption" are what I'm thinking of.

You are absolutely right P_Barnes. I especially liked The Shawshank Redemption movie.

I just read Steven King's book "On writing" which is both a story of his writing career and a guide to writing fiction.

He got trapped in alcohol and drugs. Said, he was sitting at his typewriter writing at midnight with q-tips in his nose to keep it from bleeding from the Coke and his heart beating at 130 beats per minutes.

His wife and family intervened and dumped all his drug stuff and beer cans on the floor in front of him and told him if he wanted to commit suicide they didn't want to be around to watch it because they loved him. He detoxed and hasn't had so much as a drink since.

After he cleaned up he started taking daily walks in the winding mountain roads and in 1999 was hit by a drunk driving a van that messed his leg up permanently.

He said the sad part of all of this was that he cannot even remember writing "Cujo" and its one of his favorite books and he regrets being so stoned that he didn't enjoy writing it. He was even downing bottles of cough syrup, nyquil and mouthwash. He now admits he was nothing but an addict with no excuses.

He's pretty sure there is a God, but he's obviously not a Christian.
