What Saint Paul Really Said, by NT Wright.
I've read that book. I would be interested to hear what you think of it. I am currently reading N.T. Wright's book: The New Testament and The People of God.

I'm about two and a half chapters into "Don't Waste Your Life" by John Piper, and LOVING it!

In my stack are "The Indian In The Cupboard" and "Star Wars: Shatterpoint", plus the new Harry Potter book and a whole host of Dobson books on childrearing. I may have to slide Stanley's "The Wonderful Spirit-Filled Life" in there for a second go-round too.

Thank you Joseph. I'll look into it, and I agree with you regarding the angels.

OK, I have to ask...why are you reading Harry Potter?

Because I enjoy good fiction, and that's just what it is.

OK, I have to ask...why did you have to ask? LOL

I have already read The New Testament and the People of God and thought it was good too. (How do you like it?)
I'm also about 3/4 way through the second book in that series Jesus and the Victory of God. It's good, but rather long and so I've taken a little break from it.

IAD, I had to ask because with the exception of our pastor's children and the children of a former deacon, I don't know of any other Christians who would give such a book house room.

Doubting Thomas, I am enjoying the book so far. I am about a little over half way thru' "Tools for the Task". I too have the next book. I am reading in preparation for the new autumn term. Hopefully I will be accepted on the MA programme, so I thought I would spend the summer months keeping the old grey matter ticking over.

Interesting. May I ask why? And as a follow-up question, what made you inquire about that particular book and not the Star Wars book I mentioned in the same post? Just curious...

The Starwars book didn't register with me at all. Christians here object to the Harry Potter books because of they are focussed on magic, witches, wizards etc. I don't believe in/ read horoscopes either, do you? I would have thought that most Christians would have more interest in reading God's Word than in reading books of fantasy such as those written by J.K. Rowling.

While waiting for my wife shopping, I decided to look through the bargain bin at Half-Price Books. I've been a fan of Patrick Morley (Man in the Mirror series) for years. I saw a little book called: Ten Secrets for the Man in the Mirror by Morley. It was marked 25 cts. I bought it and started reading it today. Quite a blessing. The first chapter contains one of the best illustration I've ever seen. If you can, please, secure a copy; it'll be well worth it.

I checked out Amazon.co.uk and it is available over here. I will have to put it on my wish list tho' as I can't afford any more books at the moment.

I think you need to be careful here. For one thing, you're grouping all Christians together and saying that all of them object to Harry Potter. I know that this is not true. And as a sidebar to that item, are you saying that I am not a Christian because I do read Harry Potter? I'm hoping that's not what you meant, and that it's just a matter of poorly chosen wording.

Secondly, there are a great many books that contain magic and wizards. Have you read "Lord Of The Rings" or seen the movie(s)? What about Lewis' whole series on Narnia? Ever watched "The Wizard Of Oz" or read it? I've just named three bodies of work in which magic was prominently used by the good guys, and two of them were written by authors widely believed to have been Christians. I could go on, but I shan't.

Finally, I don't like your (giant) leap of logic that I don't "have more interest in reading God's Word than in reading books of fantasy such as those written by J.K. Rowling." You have no idea how much time I spend in the Word on a daily basis. Again, you seem to be implying that I am not a Christian. I know that you cannot truly know this, because if you could, your screen name would be "Him" instead of "followinghim." If it is a "book of fantasy" that is the stumbling block here, then I suppose that means all fiction is off limits, since it all comes from someone's imagination, no matter what the topic. Likewise, television shows, save news and documentaries, are strictly forbidden because they're not real, they're from someone's imagination -- i.e., fantasy. I suppose I'll have to cull through my kids' books and toss out the likes of Winnie The Pooh and The Three Little Pigs. Talking swine building homes, indeed.

I'm sure that by this point I sound really sarcastic. I apologize for that. I feel like I'm being judged, and without any real basis in fact at that. For the record, No, I do not read horoscopes. I know where the line is between fantasy and reality.

*goes to make some tea.....looks for a message in the leaves* <--- See? That was a joke. :D

I don't think I've read the Redeeming Love one. What's it about?

Rachel, I've read the first two books in the Mark of the Lion series...they are awesome! Will be reading the 3rd book soon.

Redeeming Love is one of my all-time favorite Christian fiction books. Based on the story of Hosea and Gomer, it is extremely powerful. I would highly recommend it.

I'm currently reading a little book by Andrew Murray, called humility. It's very short; however it's taking me a while to read it because each sentence/paragraph is very deep and thought-provoking. Not a "quick" read, but is well worth the effort!
