What Do Tea Party Folk Want?

I was listening to a radio station from the States this morning on my computer. They interviewed four or five Tea Party supporters asking, "What does the Tea Party Want?" If the four had been in the same room there would have been a big fight ... each one had very different view of what the Tea Party is all about.

Same question to the Tea Party supporters on the BB ... what is it the Tea Party believes in and wants?

The Contract From America.

“According to a press release from the Tea Party Patriots group that organized the online vote, the 10 points are”:

1.Protect the Constitution
2.Reject cap and trade energy reforms
3.Demand a balanced budget
4.Enact fundamental tax reform
5.Restore fiscal responsibility and constitutionally limited government in Washington
6.End runaway government spending
7.Defund, repeal, and replace government-run health care
8.Pass an 'all-of-the-above' energy policy
9.Stop the pork
10.Stop the tax hikes

IMO, Barry Goldwater would have been right at home with them:

"I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size."

"I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom.”

“My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.”

“It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution, or that have failed in their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden.”

“I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is 'needed' before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible.”

“And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents' interests, I shall reply that I was informed their main interest is liberty and that in that cause I am doing the very best I can."

- Former Sen. Barry Goldwater (R-Ariz.), "The Conscience of a Conservative"

I am curious why they chose to take on the title of "Tea party" - an event which, if it occurred today, would most likely be considered an act of terrorism by conservatives. Destruction of private property by those who dressed as a culture which was generally opposed to American values.

Yes, I think incremental happiness value of additional income peaks, and at $75K seems reasonable. We increased our income over $75K when my mother-in-law died and I'm not any happier. Don't think The Wife is happier. Traveling is nicer since we upgraded from Motel 6 and Super 8 to Best Western. We still buy used cars.

Why don't you try sharing that increase with the needy instead and see if that increases your happiness.

I am guessing that it will.

I'm still wondering how one quantifies "happiness".

What is "twice as happy"?

How does one even define happiness? How do you know when you are happy? What is happiness? :)

If you can answer those satisfactorily for yourself and you can identify if something makes you more happy, then by the same process of reasoning you can self-identify if something makes you "twice as happy."
