Most of the posters clearly come to two flavors, those that believe in Soul Liberty, and those that believe in Soul Slavery to Sin, but both call their respective doctrines Soul Liberty.

This is ridiculous. If you want to debate the meaning of soul competency, please start another topic and don't push this one off the tracks.

And where is your neighborhood? I ask because my own one is in NW New Jersey and till now we never ever saw a the SBC. As of last Year, they have put in an initiative to take over independent churches who have the independent streak tattooed to their rear ends.

I am a Christian who happens to be a Baptist. I like the Gideons. Focus on the Gospel. Debate on secondary doctrine after everyone is offered the Gospel. I got saved by just reading a Bible one night, which I still have.

I like old regular and primitive Baptist music, Appalachian IFB doctrine, but will submit to any Baptist church's doctrine if their primary beliefs are at least solidly biblical.

I dont know if I would actually submit to the doctrine - it there was a major difference - I would discuss it with the pastor. (as an example the pastor and church believe that the Rapture took place in 70 AD) Suppose the pastor wanted me to teach a SS class and he wanted me to teach the 70 AD doctrine - I would tell him I would not - and if the meant not joining the church - so be it. Now what I would be willing to do is explain the 70 AD "theory" and then give my belief of a pre-trib rapture. If he agreed - fine - if not - I would be looking elsewhere.

General Association of Regular Baptist -
They broke off the American Baptist Convention back in 1932 due to liberalism
(details on the link)

I grew up in the GARB - I was last a member in '85
but from what I remember - they do not take a stand - it is up to each local church

As I understand the situation, many of the GARBC's founding churches, while part of the Northern Baptist movement, were never part of the Convention.
