Yes and no.Originally posted by Briguy:
Hey Guys, I just can't help but think we are talking about apples and oranges. The apostles had powers that Jesus gave them but as I see it not a true manifestation of the "gifts" until the day of pentecost when God gave the "gifts" via the entry of the Holy Spirit into the world in a way that he hadn't been in the world before.
That does not matter because Matt 17 happens after Matt 10. And Matt 10 is when they WERE given those ministries by Christ. The example of the disciples/apostles not healing the possesed boy was before the giving of the "gifts" and therefore is not pertinent.
Simply not true. God never gives as a reason for not healing "I need more people to die". Lets face it - the world was never overrun by miracle working Christians - not even in the NT.You mentioned people in hospitals needing to die because death is natural and we would not want everyone healed everytime because of population issues. That was a good point and makes our case. That may be one of the reasons the gift was only given to get the "church" on its feet and not given as a permanent thing.
Mark 1:32-34 And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.Originally posted by Ray Berrian:
The complaining father in Matthew 17:14 is a clear indication that the disciples/apostles did not always find success in their healing attempts even while Jesus was still on the earth. In fact, the father's complaint was directed to Jesus. 'I brought him {my son} to THY DISCIPLES, AND THEY COULD NOT CURE HIM.' [17:16]
So let none 'go over the top' by saying that Jesus and His apostles always healed all who came to them. Mark 9:24 may be the same man who requested the healing of his son, that is recorded in Matthew 17:14.
The disciples/apostles seem frustrated when they said, 'Why could not we cast him out?'
The challenge that 21st century Christians should enter hospitals and try to heal all patients, seem like a pre-teen argument as to a sincerity to reach all ailing people. At this rate, no one would ever die and Heaven would be without population. In the days of the apostles as well as in our days, the will of God will be regnant in all matters of Divine healing.
Ray, I have never said or taken the position that either Jesus or the Apostles heal ALL, ALL the time. My position has always been that they have the power to heal ALL that came to them, and at variuos times in their ministry (as shown by the Scriptures given) they did heal ALL that came to them. Not ALL the time, but some of the time.Originally posted by Ray Berrian:
DHK,
As you said, most often Jesus and the disciples healed all who were around them on different occasions.
Here is one reference that makes us aware that Jesus sometimes afflicts Christians rather than healing them. There were some in this verse who absolutely were never healed; in fact some of these Christians were taken to Heaven prematurely. { . . . and many sleep}
Your problem is one of integrity MEE.Originally posted by MEE:
No doubt there were many instances where 'all' the people were healed. It would be so easy if one had the Lord Jesus Christ standing in front of them.
But...this didn't always happen because of their unbelief.
Matt. 13:57-58
57) And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.
58) And he *did not* many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.Originally posted by tamborine lady:
You need to watch what you say about other Christians.
Matthew 7-7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
I would really like to know what makes you so bitter against other Christians.

DHK, you said:
Their so-called gift (like the tongues) is completely fraudulent. You have no evidence that it is a genuine gift.
Feeling good doesn't count. Satan can make you feel good.

Truth does not have to be defended.
Truth is simply based upon the Word of God.
What kind of a god do voodoo and Hindu worshippers pray to? It's most certainly not Jesus Christ!Originally posted by DHK:
I am not against Christian; I am against false doctrine. Tongues is one of the most grievous and fast growing false doctrines that there is today. It is a heresy that has deceived many, and led others into cults and damnable heresies resulting in eternal damnation. It leads others into demonic activity, and some into demon possession. If it is of the Holy Spirit how do you explain Voodoo worshippers speaking in tongues, Hindus speaking in tongues, etc.
DHK
Every believer is baptized of the Holy Spirit when they are born into God's family. That has nothing to do with speaking in tongues, or with water baptism. When one receives Jesus Christ as their Saviour, the Holy Spirit comes and dwells within the believer. You might say in that sense that we are baptized by the Holy Spirit into the family of God. It has nothing to do with tongues. Tongues have ceased. The Day of Pentecost was a historical event that passed away 2,000 years ago. Do flames of fire still hover above your head?Originally posted by MEE:

The baptism of the Holy Ghost comes from heaven!
Acts 2:2&4)
2)And suddenly there came a sound from *HEAVEN*...
4) And they were all filled with the HOLY GHOST , and began to speak with other tongues, AS THE SPIRIT gave them utterance.
I am not ashamed. And I don't compare things that are of God to evil. But things that are not of God are in and of themselves evil. Tongues is one of the most deceiving and heretical doctrines of this day and age.DHK, you should be ashamed to try to compare the things that are of God to such evilness!
