What is wrong with calling it the Chinese Virus

Lately many people have been offended by calling the current medical situation as the "Chinese Virus"
They say it is racist. (I did not know that China was a race)

I even heard one person call it the Communist Virus --- would that brother you?

I came across this web page :
5 of the Worst Flu Outbreaks In Recent History | The Weather Channel - Articles from The Weather Channel | weather.com

It lists 5 of the worse plagues in recent History:

1) 1889 Russian Flu
2) 1918 Spanish Flu
3) 1957 Asian Flu
4) 1968 Hong Kong Flu
5) 2009 H1N1 Flu

So 4 out of 5 were named after geographic locations and no one had a problem with that!

and recently some of the stands of the Current flu are actually named after the location which it started in.
No one has complained about those. I was looking for those names- but they dont seem to pop up now!

So - why is it for decades - that a geographic name was never a problem - but now it is.

With all the problems we have in this world - .......

Look at the ones spearheading that effort—the Dem Progressive Left. Communist China is their model of how the world should be. How dare anyone insult their model society!

I don't think it is racism, but it may be needless. It was probably intended to provoke for political purposes.

The reason I say this is because it is not the first coronavirus to escape China.

What is wrong with simply calling it the Covid virus? why the need to call it after China?

because there is very little natural about this virus and its purpose. If we used the standard geographic reference, then we'd all be reminded the CCP weaponized this thing and it unintentionally left the lab before it was intended to be released.

that'd be an act of war, and we can't declare that in this unsurpassed era of peace ... never mind revealing that CCP wasn't alone in this action that our own govt operatives were intimately involved using YOUR tax money to do it.

I used the term Kung Flu one time and it caused a lot of enmity in a very good friend. We've since recovered, but guess what I don't discuss with him anymore??? Guess what is a real challenge to do when this thing's response has permeated virtually every other facet of life ... discuss anything.

getting put on an island .. and some here demonstrate that very push in spite of being a professing member of the Body of Christ.

Because all all cold viruses are “covid” viruses. This one is Covid 19, I think. Whooo Hauuunn virus is accurate as well.

peace to you

I thought "cold viruses" are properly called "adeno viruses."

yes, the 19 is the year it was discovered ... but these diseases have been named for the geographic location until this one.

We can't call it the China virus because we sent them all of our manufacturing and now we send them all of our dollars with which they buy our treasury bills and buy up the country through "private equity" firms. They own us now and they don't want us to. Very simple.

Should we as Christians purposely go about seeking to offend others?
What we label things is determined mostly by society and society changes over time. We can fight that change (and when dealing with godlessness we should) or we can adapt to that change. The Apostle Paul tells us...
When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.
~ 1 Corinthians 9:22-23
If we offend by titling Covid as China, then we should call it Covid. Sadly, there are many persons of Asian heritage that are blamed for a virus, of which they have no connection, because the person using the term "China Virus" is spewing a hatred for China and in general all persons whom they consider Asian.
Unfortunately, Christians are not immune to being prejudiced racists. The disciples were prejudiced racists whom God worked on and moved to let go of their preconceived bias. Do we really want to hold similar bias and prejudice? Is it really so difficult to call the virus, Covid? What would ever possess us to so covet the name "China" just so we can proudly do whatever we want...simply because we can? One really bad aspect of American culture is the extreme individualism that gives everyone the symbolic finger if one is told that they are being offensive. Just call the virus, Covid, and thus you avoid offending. It's really not hard.

No ... but that's only one part of the admonition.

Don't be an irritant

the other part is ...

Don't be so irritable.

OBTW ... The Cross is grossly offensive. So simply being offended isn't an offense and with this purpose ... to enable people to come to Christ ... it's worth being offensive.

This is not just about Christians. It is not offending to call it the Communist Chinese virus. It is defending. It was an attack on the world, a coverup to make sure it spread far and wide, with continuous lies and denials and misattributions. If it is offensive to call it the China or Chinese virus, then the solution is to call it the Communist China or Communist Chinese virus, not to drop the reference to China altogether.

Why would anyone look for ways to be abrasive? Just call it Covid and be done. This thread seems to be full of people looking for approval to offend society merely because the pride of individualism demands to do whatever it so pleases.

I'll admit to being human ...

when the Kung Flu response cancelled a highly anticipated event ... driving cars ... it raised my dander.

when the WuFlu response resulted in a vaccine mandate threatening my job ... FIGHTS ON!

If that means using terminology which is an offense ... waaah.

If it will shake people off their comfortable accepting what the govt says as Gospel duff ... GOOD.

No one has a right to not be offended. As I said ... the Cross is offensive.

As we've since learned, it's not exclusive to the CCP ... US govt officials are directly involved in this, too!

The truth hurts sometimes, doesn't it.

IMHO - too many people get offended for unimportant things.
There are people who post on BB and use statements I do not like -
but I just grin and bear it.

Many lib used terms I despise - but I just grit my teeth

Time to get a backbone.

They are as well.

The common cold is caused by a lot of viruses. The most common are rhinoviruses, coronaviruses, adenovirus, and enteroviruses.

We normally think adenovirus as it is the single most common virus responsible for the common cold.
