Yep. You probably recognized my high view of Scripture and the sovereignty of God.

I also noted how quickly you are to argue with your brothers in Christ and how quickly you are to draw conclusions that were never intended. But, I guess, being a Calvinist, it is all in the will of God for you to behave in such a manner.

Perhaps, you didn't notice, this is a debate forum. Do you have anything to add to the debate? You made the claim that using the Bible for witnessing was too expensive, I disagreed and said why. Now, why don't you defend your view that the Bible is too expensive. And Jim, why don't you defend your view that the Bible is not practical for using when witnessing because people are less likely to accept the message as presented in the Bible?

Joseph Botwinick

Joseph, I have said all I am going to on this issue. You know what I believe concerning this matter; you just want to continue bashing anything I say about it. Sorry, you will have to argue with yourself.

nothing more to add Terry? Ok.

How about you Jim? Would you like to continue to defend your view that because the Bible is not likely to be accepted by those who are lost that it is not practical to use when witnessing?

Joe;
When was the last time you went to the mall and handed out, say, 300, Bibles?
Or you went to a local parade and handed out, say, 10,000 Bibles?
Perhaps now you can see the point. EVERY tract we hand out is the words of God. Or better said, are the EXACT words of God. So your charge that God did not make a promise concerning these tracts to which I am referring is patently false.
You, sir, are twisting the intent and context of my words to fit your agenda. In politics it is called a smear campaign and it is unbecoming.
By just the 2 above examples you can see that not many churches can afford to hand out 300-10,000 Bibles each time they go to an event to CANVASS the area with Scripture. You KNOW this. Otherwise you are being INTENTIONALLY ignorant of the missions and programs of what other churches do to fulfill the Great Commission.
You posts SEEM to indicate that you are calvinist. Oh well.
To directly answer your misinformed questions;
1) The tracts we use are pure Scripture.
2)We DO use the Bible when anyone wishes to stop and DISCUSS the contents of the tract we just gave them.
3)Nothing is wrong with my Bible. It is the very pure words of My Saviour. How dare you insinuate otherwise.
4)In some cases, (as outlined above) yes, handing out several hundreds to thousands of Bibles is impractical and beyond our church's resources. If you would like to donate sufficient funds for us to do so I will gladly give you an address via PM in which you may do so.
Have a nice day.
In His service;
Jim
Amen Jim. Very well put.

I guess I'm going to put my 2cents in on this one time and one time only, regardless of what anyone says. I believe the Bible is the best source for soulwinning, yes. But, at times it is not practical to try and present the gospel through a full bible or a new testament. It is, however, practical to present it through a tract which has several verses of the Word of God in it. I think Joe is taking his position to an extreme that most here will not take it to. That is his conviction, and that is fine. I don't necessarily agree with it. I have seen many people led to the Lord through the use of a tract. I have also known of many that came to the Lord because someone left a tract either at a payphone, in a book, on the sink in a public restroom, or elsewhere. They still receive the Word of God, and the Bible says faith comes by hearing (reading) the Word of God. It is in there, regardless of whom likes it and whom doesn't. When one hears a sermon, they aren't hearing the full Word of God. They are hearing a portion of it...a portion pertinant to salvation. The same goes for a tract. Most people are going to be more open and receptive to a tract whereas they may not be to a whole Bible being flung at them. We must be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

Thank you for your time.

Actually, when I am personally witnessing, I don't use tracts.

If I can't be verbal, I will leave tracts.

But, there is nothing like leaving the Bible either. In fact, there are books of the Bible being printed now, like from American Bible Society, that you can purchase for little.

You're right, Saggy. And I have used these books of the Bible. I usually witness in person and have a NT with me. I just don't make it a big issue if it's necessary to use a tract. Some here would make it seem like a sin.

I am with the group who would rather speak to someone face to face and use the Bible than hand them a tract. When I share I want people to know that the Bible is the final authority and not some tract. BTW, This is the way we approach Bible Study on Sundays at our church, no teacher is to bring a Sunday School quarterly into the class, we want them teaching out of the Bible. Again, so people understand that our final authority is the Bible and not a quarterly.

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

I'm not sure what all the fuss is. We are to be prepared to witness or given an answer of our faith where ever we are, to whomever would ask us. Often I don't have a tract to give anyone, so my word or witness has to be enough. God forbid that our witness for Christ must be limited by whether or not we are carrying a tract or a Bible with us.

On the other hand I try to carry some tracts with me for just the reason I described--that when given the opportunity to witness, I may leave something with a person that explains again the way of salvation, and gives the address and phone number of the church. Give him/her an invitation to come.

I am not always wearing apparel that is conducive to carrying a small Bible in my pocket. (And I am not going to carry a purse). For that reason, I usually carry tracts that fit in my shirt pocket and carry some in my hand when out witnessing. I recommend to others to carry a small Bible with them, but I have enough of the Bible memorized that it isn't an absolute necessity with me.

At other times we have found it profitable to hand out small booklets, published by Bearing Precious Seed. These contain the Books of John and Romans. They also include the plan of salvation in the last two pages. They don't take up much more room than a tract (like the one published by the Sword of the Lord) does. They are free of charge, operated as a faith-based mission, accepting donations as the Lord leads. Using a booklet like this it is easy to show the plan of salvation through the books of John and Romans, and then leave the book in their hands, with the same plan of salvation still written in the back of the book.

The bottom line is: whatever works for you, go for it. Judge not one another.

Had a great time out witnessing today. Was able to hand out a couple hundred tracks (not just me alone but combined witht he group I was with). We had several New testaments passed out and a few Bibles. People were more willing to take a tract then either the Bible or the NT, but out of those who stayed and talked, we were able to give away the Bibles and NT's.

Tried handing out just the New Testaments, and couldn't give a one away.

Came home a few phone calls from those who took a tract so I'll be following up with them tomorrow.

Just thought I would share this praise with you all.

I guess there must be a problem with the Bible since the lost didn't want to take one, right? Please, think about what you are saying.

DHK summed it up nicely here, the Bible IS the best witnessing tool, it is were we get all the messages in our tracts from, I don't think anyone is argueing that, "PRAISE GOD FOR HIS HOLY WORD!!!! AMEN?" However a tract is a way to not only give someone some of Gods word, but also a message, on how to desern it, if someone is lost, they don't have the Holy Spirit to desern Gods Word, Right? And it is a way of telling people about your church, and were they can go to hear more about salvation, if they are not prepared to hear it now, sometimes, it takes a little wile for the message to soak in to someones heart, but if , and / or when it does, a tract is a way of saying, if you want to talk more this is were you can find me. Kinda like a buisness card, and we are in the buisness of doing Gods work. In this topic I'm not debateing you, the Bible has all the Word of God in it, but some people who attempt to read the Bible don't get it like you or me, they are lost, and don't know what to belive, thats were a tract breaks it down for the lost to understand how understand the Gosple.
