What kind of water for baptism???

Would it be important to anyone where the baptism takes place? I baptized in Japan in two different church baptistries at other churches, a homemade baptistry at our apartment, a hot tub, a children's inflatable pool, a Japanese public bath during off hours (women's side--the men's side had indecent art).

I never baptized in the ocean, but here's a story about a missionary who did. The tall missionary was going to baptize an old grandma. The believers waited on the shore while the two waded out. Suddenly the lady began to say loudly, "Sensei, sensei" (Pastor, pastor)! He had forgotten how tall he was and how short she was, and almost drowned her!

Location, I don't think matters. The story, though, is hilarious.

I have a story. In a large church in Texas there was an old guy who won his neighbor to Christ and wanted to baptize him. The pastor went through how to do it, and said yes. The guy gets up there and asks his friend "Are you trusting in Christ alone?" They guy says yes, so he says "Oh man, I forget the words, so down you go, up you come."

You know, God gave us baptism knowing that there was tremendous potential for disaster in the ordinance. I'm sure He smiles sometimes as he watches us be obedient but clumsy.

A church in Texas that supported us when we were missionaries had an assistant pastor that had never baptized anyone. He got his chance when the pastor, Dr. C., was out of town preaching elsewhere. An elderly man had gotten saved and was ready to be baptized. The young assistant got the words and the ordinance right. He just made one mistake. He dunked the guy and then said, "I now baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Buried in baptism, raised to walk in newness of life." Then he finally let the old guy back up, gasping for air.

When Dr. C. got home, he asked the old guy if he were happy to have been baptized. The old guy said, "I'm just happy to be alive. Your assistant tried to drown me!"

I assume you meant to say "water baptismal regeneration is not Biblical" and that "Water Baptism" in itself is simply a command of Christ found in scripture. Both of those statements are biblical.

So you are telling me that the bible teaches baptismal regeneration?... Here is a comment from a Hardshell PB preacher... If the candidate for baptism isn't regenerated BEFORE they are immersed in the baptismal waters... They go in a dry devil and come out a wet one and scripture says so... The one being baptized is saved already... Brother Glen

1 Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

So what baptism saves, the quickening one from the Holy Spirit alone... The one that gives eternal life!

Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Btw... Heard it all since I've been here, this is nothing new!

The small northern Maine church west of Fort Kent that my wife and I were attending at the time of our baptism had no baptistry, so baptisms were done in the nearby St. John River. The climate there mandated a summer ceremony - the river is icebound December thru April most years with several weeks of high water after ice-out, and the water is quite chilly until well into June. A few years later, the first baptism held by the newly planted church in Fort Kent was done in the Fish River (large tributary of the St. John) in late September, which was pushing the envelope. That afternoon it was mid 40s with strong northwest winds and several sub-freezing mornings had greatly lowered the water temperature. There were about a half dozen candidates and our pastor's lips were bluish by the time it was finished. I was helping the candidates to safely cross 50 feet of slippery stony bottom to reach the needed depth, but at least I didn't need to stand navel-deep the whole time.

That is an interesting thought. Personally, I'd find a tub, melt some snow and dip them under. Everybody takes baths.

Baptism shouldn't endanger the health of baptizer nor baptizee.

Keep in mind that snow is simply the solid version of water.
Also the Bible does say in Psalm 51:7 -
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow

Some will say - "it must be water" but I remember a former pastor of mine told us when he was a missionary in the Pacific - they had no grape juice - so they use pineapple juice."

now he did not specify what weather - but (my being from the North) I thought of snow.
