When a sinner turns from sin-The way of the Master Moment

The Way of the Master Moment episode-When a sinner turns from sin.

How would you respond when a sinner wants to legitimately turn from sin and turn to Christ? Would you lead him/her to a sinners prayer and then assume he/she is saved? Or do you promise them that God has a wonderful plan for their lives?

Recently I was in the Bible belt doing biblical evangelism with a group of like minded WOTM evangelists. I met a woman who I believe was softened by the 10 commandments and wanted to turn from sin. She took every different type of gospel tract I had in my hand. I did not lead her into a sinners prayer, but told her to repent from sin, call out to God to save her, and do it today. My only regret was not giving her a copy of Hell's best kept secret as I had none on me. Many in the Bible belt were interested in the gospel, were softened to the preaching of the law. But sadly many are also false converts. Met another church group doing evangelism and they had a different approach but they told me of lots of people they spoke with that knew about God and about church, but just lacked that relationship with Christ and lacked knowledge of the basics of christianity. Many are also so used to hearing open air evangelism they become desentized and just do not respond.

And there goes another moment gone forever.
Go share your faith while you still have time.

I would tell that person to seek forgiveness for their sins from God, who came here to earth in the form of Jesus Christ Our Lord. Life is much too difficult to make it through on your own. Lay all the heavy stuff on Christ who willingly takes it all and then go out and just live. Do your daily work, help others as much as you can, and make time to worship God as you go through this thing we call life.

Neither one. I would explain the meaning of "Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand" like Jesus did, not use an extremely modern method falsely ascribed to Jesus as a preferred way.

Any message of evangelism that does not explicitly and directly point to daily discipleship is incomplete.

The WOTM is all for daily discipleship! Read your bible daily and obey it.

That’s because you have misread the Way of the Master.
The Way that teaches a sinner MUST have the Law first taught to them, and that they MUST repent of all known sins before coming to Jesus to get saved, and then must be sure to live right well enough?

That's what gets me.

It's not the use of the law in convicting people, and then the grace to calm their fear, but the WOTM and most modern gospel messages are a LAW sandwich.

Here is the LAW before --- > you are a sinner, you've sinned etc etc. You deserve hell
Here is the GRACE --- > God died for your sins, believe and be saved. It's so simple - how merciful is our God! what Joy!
Here is the LAW again --- > now you are saved you better live right and prove you are saved and live in fear constantly and constantly worry about your own sin and everyone elses (especially everyone elses) because if you don't GOD'S GONNA GETCHA!

If the woman was really that eager, I would have led her to Christ rather than leave her with a tract. But most importantly, whether she was ready to come to Christ that moment or not, I would have pointed her to a Bible-believing church, ideally taking some contact details and passing them to the church to follow up.

Acts 26:19-20. 'I........declared .......that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance.'
You might also consider Ephesians 4:17-24 and Colossians 3:5-11.

There are TONS of bible believing churches in the south so which one would I choose?

You have the whole world of Baptist list at your fingertips here. You could get her contact information and then find someone here who could provide guidance.

Have you never thought this out?

I have led people to Christ who were from out of town and I have always followed up with churches in their town - even in the days before there was an internet. There's absolutely NO excuse now.

Seems you really aren't interested in follow-up.

This is why outreaches should be done with a church so that people can be put in contact with that church that is involved. All missions I have ever done has been with a local church so that there is some place to direct people to.

I agree. Biblical evangelism is always done as a ministry of a local church. I recently listened to a street evangelist who pointed how misled he was for years, and unfortunately misled others in the process, by believing he was called to be an evangelist apart from a local church. He called it the "street-evangelist movement" and explained the heresy of it all. I can't remember the preacher's name. Anyway, he is still engaged in street preaching but only under the authority of his local church. This is essential, not optional.

Off OP just a bit -
I was at a laundromat today - there was a display of several Bible tracts.
I looked at them quickly - NOT one local address - only the address of
the publisher . IMHO - whoever put those tracts there should stamp them
with a local church for a person to have contact with.

In the south it is common to have churches do street evangelism, but its not common in my area. But even in the south not all churches agree with open air preaching. I visited a church that did street evangelism, but did not agree with open air. The group I was a part of was part of a church that did both street evangelism and open air preaching. I told them of my situation in my area and they all said I was very brave to continue to do evangelism in my area, despite the lack of a local church that does street evangelism. I was commended at mens bible study for doing street evangelism in my church by a deacon. So your opinion that a street evangelism must only work as part of a local church ministry is just that an opinion. Many men of God disagree with your interpretations of things.

Yes but not all churches agree with tracts. What of evangelist that are trapped in churches that do not agree with tracts? Should the evangelist just stop witnessing?

Someone here to provide guidance? Are you kidding? I would not trust the people on this board.
